Cui Xisheng wondered to himself whether men could also have a “slippery pulse” during pregnancy. He secretly took his own pulse and clearly felt the telltale beaded, rolling sensation under his fingers. His face turned even paler.
"Are you hungry? You’ve been sleeping all day and haven’t eaten a thing,” Qi Sheng asked.
“Not really,” Cui Xisheng said, rubbing his stomach. Not only was he not hungry—he felt bloated and nauseated.
“Still dealing with gastritis?” Bai Qianyu asked.
“Just a bit bloated,” Cui Xisheng nodded.
“You haven’t eaten all day. Even if you’re bloated, you should still eat something. Let’s go to the cafeteria and have some millet porridge,” Wang Zhonglin suggested.
Cui Xisheng touched his flat belly and finally nodded. Even if he didn’t eat, the baby needed food.
Since it wasn’t mealtime yet, the cafeteria wasn’t crowded. Cui Xisheng stared at the menu, but nothing looked appetizing.
Wang Zhonglin got him a bowl of millet porridge. Cui Xisheng stirred it with a spoon but didn’t have the appetite to take even a single bite.
“Isn’t that Meng Jiangtian? Cui Xisheng, he looks like he’s here to see you. Should we call him over?” Qi Sheng asked, sharp-eyed as always, spotting Meng Jiangtian and his group entering the cafeteria.
Cui Xisheng whipped his head around and accidentally locked eyes with Meng Jiangtian.
A shiver ran through him, and he quickly looked away, his gaze falling on the girl beside Meng Jiangtian.
She was youthful and pretty, petite and sweet, clinging to Meng Jiangtian’s arm like a delicate bird relying on a tree. She instantly evoked a sense of protectiveness.
Compared to him, a grown man, of course anyone would choose a beautiful young lady like that.
Cui Xisheng gave a bitter, self-deprecating smile and turned his eyes back to his porridge, which now seemed completely inedible.
“Meng Jiangtian!” Qi Sheng called out loudly.
“Don’t!” Cui Xisheng quickly stopped him.
Suddenly, his stomach cramped painfully, and a wave of nausea struck him. Though he hadn’t eaten all day, he still gagged a few times, but nothing came out.
“Are you okay? You’re throwing up again?” The three at the table were startled. Wang Zhonglin patted him on the back gently.
There wasn’t any water on the table for him to rinse his mouth, so Wang Zhonglin said to Qi Sheng, “Go buy a bottle of mineral water so he can rinse.”
“I’ll go right away,” Qi Sheng nodded and got up to leave.
But Cui Xisheng grabbed his arm, stopping him. “No need. I want to go back to the dorm and lie down. You guys keep eating. I’ll head back first.”
Clutching his stomach, which was still spasming painfully, he stood up despite the ongoing nausea.
Footsteps sounded behind him. Feeling anxious to leave, Cui Xisheng pushed through the nausea and stood up in a rush—only for the world to start spinning and his vision to blacken.
“Slow down. I’ll walk you back. You two, bring the steamed buns back to the dorm,” Wang Zhonglin reacted quickly and caught the fainting Cui Xisheng.
Feeling dizzy and weak, Cui Xisheng leaned against Wang Zhonglin and said urgently, “Hurry, I owe Meng Jiangtian money. He’s here to collect the debt.”
“What?” Wang Zhonglin looked at him in shock. Qi Sheng and Bai Qianyu were also surprised—they hadn’t expected that kind of relationship.
Glancing back at Meng Jiangtian, who was walking over with a frown and cold expression, Wang Zhonglin quickly scooped Cui Xisheng up in his arms and told Qi Sheng and Bai Qianyu, “You two stall Meng Jiangtian—I’ll get Cui Xisheng out of here.”
“Go! Leave him to us!”
There were two exits from the cafeteria. Wang Zhonglin carried Cui Xisheng toward the other one.
Seeing Cui Xisheng’s retreating figure, Meng Jiangtian’s frown deepened—but he came to a stop.
Qi Sheng and Bai Qianyu had been preparing to block him, but when they saw him stop, they looked at each other in confusion.
