When he woke up the next day, the bed was already empty. The little fool rubbed his sleepy eyes, slipped on his slippers, and got out of bed.
"Honey?" The little fool's voice was soft as he grinned at the Alpha standing in the kitchen, making breakfast. "Good morning, honey!"
"Hubby~ Did you sleep well last night?" After washing up, the little fool held the glass of milk Alpha handed him and blinked his eyes.
Sheng Zhi: ……
"Good."
"Hehe~ That's great! I slept really well too. It must be because of you, hubby! I didn’t have any nightmares last night!" The little fool's eyes curved into happy crescents. It had been so long since someone had slept beside him. The little fool thought his husband was the best person in the whole world.
After breakfast, Sheng Zhi was ready to leave for work. Before he left, the little fool stood on his tiptoes and offered to tie his husband’s tie.
"Hubby, can I help you tie your tie?" The little fool picked up a silver-gray tie but thought for a moment and switched to a brown-black one instead. He tilted his head up, eyes filled with unconcealed anticipation.
Tying his husband's tie! The little fool had never done something like this before.
"N—" Alpha instinctively wanted to refuse. He had been independent for the past thirty years, doing everything himself. Sheng Zhi casually put on his watch, turned around, and saw his little wife looking up at him with hopeful eyes.
"Oh."
The little fool curled his fingers, holding the tie while lowering his head, looking a little lost. Did he annoy his husband? The little fool exhaled softly. It’s okay, he reassured himself.
Being rejected when offering help was a normal thing. The little fool had always been enthusiastic, but after his brain illness, his reactions had slowed down a lot. He often ended up being more of a hindrance than a help, so people didn’t want him to interfere. Over time, no one was willing to let him help anymore.
So it was okay. Really, it was okay.
Even though… even though he had practiced for so long.
When Alpha turned his head, the little fool quickly looked up again and forced a smile.
"Then… then hubby, goodbye~"
The little fool put the tie back in its place. As he glanced at the phone Alpha had left on the coffee table, he instinctively reached out to hand it to him but hesitated, his hand stopping in midair.
The moment Alpha rejected him, he regretted it. Especially when he saw the little fool’s sudden crestfallen expression, an inexplicable frustration welled up inside him.
"Come here." Alpha impatiently loosened his tie.
"Huh?" The little fool turned around in surprise.
"This tie doesn’t look good," Alpha said, tossing aside the carefully matched tie chosen by his stylist. He averted his gaze, coughed lightly, and added, "Ahem, what I meant to say was, not the silver-gray one."
Not the silver-gray one. The brown-black one you picked.
"The one you chose actually looks pretty good," Alpha added.
For the first time, Alpha doubted his own decision. The Omega was helping him tie his tie, his soft hands brushing against Alpha's neck repeatedly. The little fool was very focused, standing on his tiptoes, reaching out to wrap his arms around Alpha. He was so close, sometimes holding his breath, sometimes exhaling softly. The warm breath felt like tiny hands gently swirling around Alpha's neck…
Alpha: Self-inflicted suffering.
"I'm heading to work now," Alpha finally broke the silence, his voice inexplicably dry.
"Okay!" The little fool quickly adjusted his emotions. Looking at the neatly tied tie, he grinned, revealing two little tiger teeth.
He wasn’t a useless fool after all!
The little fool planted a quick "smooch" on his husband and gave him a good morning kiss.
"Hubby, good luck at work!"
The little fool was actually quite capable. He planned to make desserts and bring them to his husband’s company. He also planned to make soup and bring that to his husband’s company.
"Hubby, I made osmanthus cake today."
"Why are you here again?" Alpha frowned as he watched the little fool running toward him. Before the little fool even got close, he casually pushed the documents on his desk to the side.
—Mm, making space for the dessert box.
The assistant, who had just been about to remind the boss to sign the papers: …
"Xiao Li, do you want to try some?" The little fool offered enthusiastically.
Alpha looked up.
Assistant: No, no, I wouldn’t dare. And quietly closed the door on his way out.
Author's note:
