LWP Chapter 4

Almost a year had passed, and in the blink of an eye, autumn had arrived again, with golden leaves drifting in the wind. The display window of that home goods store seemed to have filled with many more beautiful and adorable cushions.

The little pillow sat in the man's car, passing by that store as usual. It glanced at its old home and then turned to look at the man’s profile as he drove, feeling more and more fortunate for being chosen back then.

But on this day, the man suddenly pulled over in front of that store. The little cushion watched as he stepped inside, its heart filled with unease…

Sure enough, when the man walked out, he was holding a plastic bag. A corner of something peeked out, and the little cushion immediately recognized it—inside was a new cushion.

Back home, the man happily took out the bright red cushion, flipping it over and admiring it. The little cushion suddenly lowered its head in sadness—but with its round, plump shape, it was impossible to tell.

It had grown old. Though the man had always taken great care of it, its sky-blue fabric was no longer as vibrant as the newly bought red cushion. Maybe the man liked the new red cushion now, the little cushion thought, feeling a dull ache in its heart.

The little cushion was gone!

The man woke up suddenly from his sleep to find his arms empty. He searched the entire bed but couldn't find the familiar sky-blue figure.

Anxious, he lost all interest in attending his friend’s birthday party. Instead, he made a quick call, telling his friend that he had already bought the red cushion she had wanted for so long, but something urgent had come up at home, so he would deliver it another day.

After hanging up, he immediately started searching his home.

Where could it be? Where had his little cushion gone? It had been right there in his arms just last night…
