AD Chapter 29
Su Ning didn't argue because he knew that Chu Zichen was just picking on him on purpose, trying to make things difficult for him. No matter what he said, Chu Zichen would always find a way to retort. So, it was better to just stay quiet and let Chu Zichen vent until he got tired or satisfied and stopped.
As a result, that afternoon, Su Ning ran back and forth four or five times to buy food for Chu Zichen. The first couple of times, Chu Zichen would at least try a bite before throwing it on the ground. Later, he didn't even bother to open the box before tossing it aside. By the last time, he threw the food directly at Su Ning.
The hot soup splashed all over Su Ning's clothes, staining them with grease, and the air around him seemed to freeze for a moment.
This time, Chu Zichen had really gone too far. The crew thought that Su Ning would finally snap, since they were all just employees working for wages, not actual servants. No one should put up with this kind of bullying any longer.
But to everyone's surprise, Su Ning didn't get angry. He simply raised his eyes and stared at Chu Zichen for a moment, then spoke in a tone that lacked any emotion.
"It seems Mr. Chu isn't hungry, so I'll go back and change clothes."
After saying that, he ignored Chu Zichen's reaction and turned to leave.
"You stop right there! Who told you to leave?" Chu Zichen was still not done, angry and losing his temper, shaking his hand and cursing at Su Ning's back.
"You're just a servant, right? Can't even do something as simple as this! You probably only know how to spread your legs for men!"
Su Ning's steps suddenly froze, his hands clenched into fists at his sides, but he didn't turn around.
The already quiet atmosphere became even more silent, as if the air had frozen. No one spoke. The crew exchanged looks, unsure whether it was the content they had just heard or the sight of Chu Zichen cursing like a street thug that shocked them.
In the silence, a woman's angry voice rang out.
"Chu Zichen, have you forgotten that you're still an actor? Barking like a mad dog, you should really let your fans see what you've become," Fan Xin said with a sneer, her tone full of contempt and mockery. "I used to think you were stupid, but now I realize you're stupid to this extent. When you curse others, you're cursing yourself along with them."
Fan Xin's assistant muttered softly beside her, "I think he's completely forgotten he's even human."
"You—" Chu Zichen turned furiously, locking eyes with Fan Xin, as if she were a fool.
"What? Did I say something wrong? Su Ning is a servant, so what about you?" Fan Xin taunted.
Chu Zichen's chest heaved violently with anger, glaring at Fan Xin but unable to speak. Although he had climbed into Gu Lingfeng's bed, gaining many resources from it and flaunting it as a badge of honor, being exposed by Fan Xin in front of everyone felt like being publicly stripped of his pride.
Su Ning turned around, smiled in thanks at Fan Xin, and then, ignoring the curious gazes and whispers, went back to his hotel room to change clothes.
After this incident, Chu Zichen became more cautious with his insults toward Su Ning, especially when Fan Xin was around. But his actions still grew more aggressive, tormenting Su Ning throughout the entire day without letting him get a moment of rest.
Ever since Su Ning had been left behind by Gu Lingfeng, Chu Zichen had stopped asking Su Ning to drive him to see Gu Lingfeng, but afterward, he would still flaunt it, making Su Ning drive him around as though showing off.
Su Ning knew that Chu Zichen was doing this on purpose, trying to provoke him, to see if he'd get angry or jealous, but Su Ning couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it.
Why would he be jealous?
To put it nicely, Chu Zichen was Gu Lingfeng's current lover. To put it bluntly, he was just a plaything in that man's bed, no different from a decorative piece, and the replacements came quickly.
Having been by Gu Lingfeng's side for so long, Su Ning understood very well Gu Lingfeng's attitude toward his lovers—he only called them when he needed something, and otherwise, wouldn't think of them. No matter how many times they slept together, they were less important than one of his documents.
Those who were tactful and knew their place—like him—might last a bit longer, but anyone who thought they could hold onto that man with unrealistic fantasies would be discarded completely, just like all of Gu Lingfeng's past lovers.
They were all just passing visitors in his life, fleeting and leaving no trace behind.
Thus, Su Ning controlled his emotions, refusing to entertain any unfounded thoughts. All he wanted was to finish his contract, leave, and open a small shop to live his own life.
In the car, Chu Zichen pouted and acted spoiled for the entire ride, and when they arrived, he purposely made Su Ning help him out of the car, pretending to be delicate and fragile.
"Oh, I barely slept last night, and now I have to film today. It's exhausting."
While complaining, he threw a coy smile, purposely glancing at Su Ning with a look full of provocation.
Perhaps last night he'd had enough attention, as the youthful charm of his delicate features was now overlaid with a sense of mischief that he no longer bothered to hide—of course, it seemed that Chu Zichen didn't want to hide it.
Whether he was showing off or provoking, Su Ning played deaf and dumb, acting as though he were just a dutiful assistant. He helped Chu Zichen out of the car, but before he could withdraw his hand, Chu Zichen slapped it away.
Constantly flaunting and trying to provoke Su Ning, Chu Zichen's attitude toward him was full of contradictions—he hated him enough to want him to disappear, yet he wanted him close by, where he could bully him at any time.
When they arrived at the set and were waiting for makeup, Chu Zichen had Su Ning go get breakfast for him, giving him a bunch of picky and trivial requirements, and then he added with intentional arrogance:
"I can't eat anything spicy right now, don't put chili in it."
Su Ning didn't say anything, just nodded in response, then left the makeup room. The makeup artist exchanged a meaningful look with her assistant.
After the public outburst, nearly everyone on set knew about Chu Zichen's rich backer. Whether it was because he had given up or for some other reason, he didn't try to hide it anymore, and in fact, acted even more recklessly, as though he were flaunting his relationship with his sponsor.
In the entertainment industry, people usually laughed at poverty, not promiscuity. However, Chu Zichen's actions still raised many eyebrows, and people found it hard to understand.
