AAISBMEBF Chapter 58: Cooking Steps

A single tomato couldn’t withstand so many people fighting over it.
The crowd dispersed, and the ground where the tomato had burst was licked clean. The tomato juice was gone, not even the dust on the ground remained.
Meng Jiangtian’s laughter grew louder and louder, clearly delighted, as he leisurely ate vegetables and fruits one after another.
The sour and sweet tomato, the refreshing cucumber, and the crispy white radish. He also ate fruits, one bite after another.
After taking a bite of a banana, Meng Jiangtian let out a satisfied burp, having eaten too much. He looked at the crowd opposite him, all of them wilted and looking longingly at the bananas in his hands, salivating.
Meng Jiangtian casually threw the half-eaten banana away. It flew in a perfect arc and dropped down to the floor below. He would rather throw it away than give the others even a bite.
The sun above was scorching, and it was time for lunch.
After showing off, Meng Jiangtian used the wind to carry the vegetables and delivered them to the room of Cui Xisheng downstairs. These fruits and vegetables were too delicate, they couldn’t be exposed to the sun.
The door of the room couldn’t be opened from the outside, so Meng Jiangtian flew in through the kitchen window. Cui Xisheng was still asleep, his breathing even, with a faint flush on his face.
He placed the vegetables in the kitchen. Without a pillow, Cui Xisheng slept restlessly, tossing and turning. Meng Jiangtian flew out of the window again.
Finding the bedding wasn’t difficult. Meng Jiangtian quickly brought back a new blanket.
He spread the blanket and lifted Cui Xisheng onto it. With the pillow, Cui Xisheng finally relaxed, his furrowed brows smoothing out.
After guarding Cui Xisheng for a while, a knock on the door woke Cui Xisheng up.
Cui Xisheng awoke in a panic. In the apocalypse, hearing a knock on the door instantly made his brain think of zombies scratching at the door.
He sat up abruptly, his eyes wide with bloodshot veins. When he saw the person sitting by the bed, he kicked out in fright.
“It’s me, don’t be scared.” Meng Jiangtian gently caught Cui Xisheng’s ankle.
Hearing Meng Jiangtian’s voice, Cui Xisheng paused for a moment, his drowsy eyes focused on Meng Jiangtian’s face. He relaxed and collapsed back onto the bed.
The knock on the door came again. Cui Xisheng wasn’t really angry but was now a little annoyed and said, “Who’s outside the door?”
“I’ll go check. Don’t sleep, dinner’s ready. I’ve brought back some good stuff for you.”
Meng Jiangtian said mysteriously before walking out to open the door. Cui Xisheng, intrigued by his words, sat up slowly, shaking off the drowsiness.
Looking through the peephole, Meng Jiangtian saw Liu Anna outside. His brows furrowed instantly, and after hesitating for a while, Liu Anna knocked again.
Meng Jiangtian sighed and opened the door. Liu Anna smiled sweetly when she saw him: “Jiangtian Gege, can I come in?”
“Do you need something from me?” Meng Jiangtian didn’t step aside, making it clear he didn’t want Liu Anna to enter. Cui Xisheng was still inside, and he probably didn’t want him to see Liu Anna.
“I want some food, I want to eat fruit.” Liu Anna, rejected at the door, looked disappointed, her face showing a pitiful expression as she looked at Meng Jiangtian, pleadingly.
Meng Jiangtian didn’t immediately reject or agree. But his silence caused Liu Anna’s heart to feel a deep hurt.
Was she no longer in Meng Jiangtian’s protective circle? Although Meng Jiangtian had always favored Cui Xisheng, he still used to share food with her and Cui Xisheng.
But now, he didn’t want to give her anything at all.
Realizing this, Liu Anna felt a little panicked. Without Meng Jiangtian’s protection, how would she survive in the apocalypse?
If she had known earlier, she wouldn’t have helped the student council president split Cui Xisheng’s food.
Meng Jiangtian thought for a while, then spoke up. Liu Anna, afraid he would refuse, immediately rushed to speak: “Jiangtian Gege, I really know I was wrong. I was just afraid those people would hurt Cui Xisheng, and I was scared they’d hurt me too, so I helped the student council president take Cui Xisheng’s food. I’ve been hungry for two days. I’m really starving. Jiangtian Gege, please give me something to eat.”
Liu Anna tugged at Meng Jiangtian’s sleeve, swaying and pleading.
When they were little, Liu Anna would act this way, asking Meng Jiangtian for anything she wanted.
Meng Jiangtian looked at Liu Anna and thought of the little girl who used to follow him around. At that time, Liu Anna was beautiful, well-behaved, and kind-hearted.
He sighed softly and eventually softened: “Wait a minute.”
He closed the door without letting Liu Anna enter, walked into the kitchen, and remembered there were a few bananas that had already turned black.
He picked up a whole bunch of overripe bananas, opened the door again, and Liu Anna’s eyes were full of longing as she watched him.
“Here, take these. If you can’t eat them, just throw them away. If you get a stomachache, there’s no medicine for you.”
Meng Jiangtian placed the bananas on the ground, not giving Liu Anna another chance to make demands, and immediately closed the door.
Liu Anna stared at the closed door. Her pitiful expression gradually turned to a grimace. But at least she had gotten a big bunch of bananas.
She picked them up and went to the room she had chosen. Liu Anna gobbled down four bananas in one go. Her anger subsided a little, but she didn’t dare to eat more.
Eating too many bananas could cause diarrhea, and Meng Jiangtian was right—there was no medicine for her if that happened.
Meng Jiangtian returned to the bedroom, and Cui Xisheng was sitting on the bed with a grim face. It seemed like he had heard Liu Anna’s voice.
“She came for food,” Meng Jiangtian tried to explain.
Cui Xisheng coldly interrupted, “Why are you telling me this?”
“I treat her like a sister.”
“What does it matter what you think of her?”
“Are you jealous?” Meng Jiangtian suddenly leaned in, smiling as he asked.
“A fuckbuddy getting jealous over a girlfriend, do I have that right?” Cui Xisheng glared at Meng Jiangtian.
“If you want to, you have it,” Meng Jiangtian moved closer, his goal being Cui Xisheng’s slightly pale lips.
The atmosphere became increasingly suggestive, and Meng Jiangtian felt that the moment was just right. After waiting for more than two months, he could no longer resist kissing Cui Xisheng.
Cui Xisheng narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint flashing in them. This old pervert had finally lost control.
Cui Xisheng narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint flashing in them. This old pervert had finally lost control.
In order to make something happen with him, he even used the "girlfriend" excuse. He had so decisively left him to go after Liu Anna, and now he was calling her his "sister." Did he really think Cui Xisheng was an idiot?
Slowly, Cui Xisheng raised his arm, looking at the face of Meng Jiangtian, which was so flawless it made him jealous.
After awakening his ability, Meng Jiangtian’s skin had improved. It was so tender and pale—if he slapped it, a beautiful handprint would definitely remain.
Although Meng Jiangtian was aroused, he didn’t let it affect him. As an air elementalist, he was extremely sensitive to the flow of air. Hearing the whoosh of wind, Meng Jiangtian easily blocked Cui Xisheng's surprise attack.
"After being hungry for two days, you still have this much strength." Meng Jiangtian held Cui Xisheng’s wrist, deliberately rubbing his thumb over the skin on Cui Xisheng’s wrist.
The gentle pressure made Cui Xisheng shiver, struggling to pull his wrist away.
Though he had been the one to make the move, Meng Jiangtian had only blocked him, yet Cui Xisheng’s own arm hurt from the force of Meng Jiangtian’s firm arm.
Suddenly, Cui Xisheng's stomach growled. After sleeping all afternoon, the two bowls of porridge had long been digested, and his stomach was now protesting at this awkward moment.
Cui Xisheng blushed in embarrassment and anger, his face turning red.
Meng Jiangtian raised an eyebrow and laughed lightly, "I’ll go cook now. Do you want to eat some fruit to hold you over?"
"Fruit?" Cui Xisheng looked at Meng Jiangtian in surprise. Was there fruit to eat at this time?
"It’s in the kitchen. Come down and move around. You can choose yourself." Meng Jiangtian led Cui Xisheng to the kitchen.
The kitchen wasn’t big, and many vegetables and fruits were piled in the living room. Cui Xisheng stared at the colorful fruits and vegetables, his eyes widening in surprise.
He pinched a grape and observed it carefully. The fragrance of the grape wafted up to his nose, and the texture didn’t feel fake.
He put it in his mouth, and the sweet and sour taste immediately woke up his taste buds. Cui Xisheng shuddered all over.
"Don’t eat too much fruit, you just had stomach issues. Be careful you don’t get diarrhea again. If you want any vegetables, I’ll go get the student council president and Qi Tianshan to cook them for you." Meng Jiangtian took the bunch of grapes Cui Xisheng was holding and said.
"Anything is fine. But this is too much, if I don’t finish it, it will spoil." Cui Xisheng didn’t resist. Though he was tempted, Meng Jiangtian was right, eating too much fruit would only cause him trouble.
"If it spoils, then it spoils. The situation is like this, there’s no other way."
"Well..." Cui Xisheng hesitated, looking at Meng Jiangtian.
He wasn’t a saint, and he was very angry about the food being taken from him. But those people upstairs had been starving for two days, and if they went hungry any longer, someone could die.
When people were desperate, they were more likely to do anything.
Even if the food couldn’t be eaten, it would rot. In the apocalypse, it wasn’t good to hold too many grudges. Cui Xisheng wanted to share a bit with the people upstairs.
"Don’t you still hate them?" Meng Jiangtian understood what Cui Xisheng meant and asked.
"Of course, I hate them. But I’m also thinking about myself. If they get crazy from hunger and come down to forcibly take food, even if you’ve awakened your abilities, can you kill over a hundred people at once? At that point, it’s still dangerous for us."
"Who says I can’t?" Meng Jiangtian said lightly.
Cui Xisheng stared at Meng Jiangtian, who smiled benignly, as if joking but also serious.
That strange smile made Cui Xisheng’s hair stand on end. Just as he was considering whether he should keep a distance from Meng Jiangtian, Meng Jiangtian suddenly laughed.
He pinched Cui Xisheng’s face, which had little flesh, and said with a smile, "I’m joking. If I killed so many people, I wouldn’t be able to sleep. But they took your food, so they need some punishment.
They won’t die after being hungry for two days, and the student council president is giving them water. Let them go hungry for one more night, then they can eat tomorrow.
You should eat less fruit. I’ll go ask the student council president and Qi Tianshan to come down and cook some vegetables for you. Eating all those breads and sausages isn’t good for your health."
"Okay." Cui Xisheng nodded obediently. Looking at Meng Jiangtian’s retreating back, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Meng Jiangtian hadn’t been joking just now.
That was over a hundred people. Meng Jiangtian had just awakened his abilities, so he probably couldn’t defeat over a hundred people. He must have been joking, right?
Cui Xisheng remembered the three students whose legs were severed, and who bled to death. Goosebumps instantly covered his body.
He hadn’t realized before how ruthless Meng Jiangtian could be. Fear slowly began to rise within him. He had just wanted to hit Meng Jiangtian—hopefully, this old pervert wasn’t angry.
He shouldn’t be so naive. These vegetables and fruits were all brought back by Meng Jiangtian. Whether he shared them or not, he had no right to say anything.
It was all Liu Anna’s fault. After spending so much time with that white lotus, his brain had become messed up.
The more he thought about it, the more regretful he became. Cui Xisheng grabbed a banana and stuffed it into his mouth to calm himself. The bananas were already blackened, so he’d better eat them first.
When Meng Jiangtian opened the door to the rooftop and walked in, everyone turned to look at him.
Each of them looked gaunt and exhausted, their faces almost as bad as the zombies. The student council president was gathering clear water to give everyone, since drinking more water would help them last a few more days.
Moreover, the student council president had discovered that frequently using their abilities could speed up their level-ups. That was why he was so selflessly gathering clear water for everyone.
When Meng Jiangtian found the student council president, he was drinking the water he had collected himself. Even ability users felt uncomfortable after being hungry for two days.
"Are you hungry?" Meng Jiangtian asked from above, smiling with a very friendly expression.
“What do you want to do?” In the student council president’s eyes, Meng Jiangtian’s smile was mocking him. He asked darkly.
“I came to ask you to cook for me,” Meng Jiangtian replied with a smile.
Cooking again! The student council president’s anger instantly flared up.
Just as he was about to retort, Meng Jiangtian casually said something that immediately shut him up: “I can give you some food. Fresh and warm dishes, you know. Think about it, then bring Qi Tianshan down. I’ll be waiting for you.”
Turning to Zhao Huanrui, Meng Jiangtian added, “You can eat a bit of this food. Don’t say I’m making you work without giving you anything to eat.”
Meng Jiangtian walked a few steps, then stopped and turned back to the student council president. “Oh, by the way, the pots and bowls from lunch haven’t been washed. Wash them clean and bring them down.”
The student council president hesitated for a moment, but Meng Jiangtian’s final humiliation extinguished any resistance he had left. But the temptation of warm food was too great, and after some deliberation, he reluctantly grabbed Qi Tianshan and headed downstairs.
Zhao Huanrui also wanted to eat some hot food, but since Meng Jiangtian had asked him to watch the food upstairs, he didn’t dare to follow.
Looking at the hungry crowd across from him, Zhao Huanrui thought that having some snacks to eat wasn’t too bad.
After picking through the food for a while, Zhao Huanrui didn’t dare to take too much. He only took a can of Eight-Treasure Porridge.
As he opened the lid of the porridge, Zhao Huanrui suddenly felt a chill on his back. Turning around, he was met by hundreds of wolf-like eyes staring at him.
Zhao Huanrui’s scalp tingled as he swallowed hard. Using his abilities, he created a one-meter-high thin earthen wall to block the stares of the crowd.
With the piercing eyes gone, Zhao Huanrui let out a long sigh of relief.
He couldn’t help but admire Qi Tianshan, who had endured the unfriendly glares all day. That must have been an unbearable experience.
Meng Jiangtian waited downstairs for a while, and soon the student council president walked in with Qi Tianshan, both with dark expressions.
The student council president’s hands were empty, and Qi Tianshan was carrying a pot filled with unwashed bowls and chopsticks.
“You didn’t bring the knife. It’s upstairs. Go get it,” Meng Jiangtian casually tossed a cucumber and said to the student council president.
The student council president stood still for three seconds, furious, but ultimately compromised and went back upstairs.
A short while later, the student council president came downstairs holding a kitchen knife, looking furious. Anyone who didn’t know better would think he was about to commit a crime with that knife.
