AAISBMEBF Chapter 44: Pig Trotters

After sleeping for an entire day, Cui Xisheng was starving.
A row of boxes sat beside him, packed with a variety of food.
Previously, his pregnancy nausea made him feel sick just looking at greasy food. But now, when he saw the red, glistening braised pig trotters in their packaging, his mouth started to water.
The two people beside him were munching on bread. Across from them, a group of hungry people, who had been starving all day, stared at them with green, wolf-like eyes.
Cui Xisheng swallowed and, in the end, chose a banana cream bread to eat.
With Meng Jiangtian leading them, the three ability users who had gone out to search for food returned before sunset this time.
Behind Meng Jiangtian was a massive pile of cardboard boxes—it looked like they had cleared out an entire supermarket.
The sight of such a huge amount of food instantly stirred up the waiting crowd, their excited chatter echoing loudly.
The noise attracted the zombies downstairs, making them howl in response.
The student council president immediately stepped in to maintain order.
Although zombies couldn’t open doors, they mindlessly shattered the glass on the first floor.
From above, they could already see many zombies crawling inside the building.
After distributing the food, they would still have to block the stairwell doors downstairs.
Meng Jiangtian put down the food and walked straight over to Cui Xisheng.
He glanced at the box of red date-flavored food beside Zhao Jiake and immediately noticed that its contents had decreased significantly.
His brows furrowed slightly as he looked at Zhao Jiake with an unreadable expression.
"Don’t misunderstand! Cui Xisheng gave it to us!" Zhao Jiake hurriedly explained, turning to Cui Xisheng with a pleading look, hoping for his confirmation.
"I gave it to them. I don’t like red date flavor." Cui Xisheng nodded.
Zhao Jiake put on a flattering smile and looked at Meng Jiangtian.
Meng Jiangtian said nothing.
Instead, he walked over to Cui Xisheng and rummaged through a box, pulling out a few pig trotters—seemingly planning to eat them.
"I want some pig trotters too." Cui Xisheng reached out his hand.
He had been craving them earlier but held back. Now that Meng Jiangtian was back, he didn’t have to worry about people getting jealous.
Besides, there was only one box of pig trotters.
Meng Jiangtian had already taken three, leaving only a few left.
"You don’t find this disgusting?" Meng Jiangtian handed all three pig trotters to Cui Xisheng and asked.
"Since yesterday, I haven’t felt as nauseous anymore."
Cui Xisheng tore open a pack and took a bite.
The rich, meaty flavor filled his mouth instantly.
After a month of pregnancy nausea, loss of appetite, and eating only bland food, he finally tasted real meat again.
A satisfied smile spread across his face as he squinted in delight.
Beside him, Zhao Jiake swallowed loudly—his gulping sound was almost exaggerated.
Cui Xisheng turned to him and handed him one of the braised pig trotters.
"I… I’m not hungry."
Zhao Jiake wanted to accept it badly, but Meng Jiangtian’s gaze—though calm—sent chills down his spine.
"I’ll go check over there. The zombies downstairs are too noisy… Let’s make sure they don’t climb up."
Under Meng Jiangtian’s unwavering stare, Zhao Jiake felt cold sweat soaking through his clothes.
Finding an excuse, he scrambled to his feet and ran off in a hurry.
He was moving so fast that he nearly collided with Liu Anna, who was rushing over.
"Jiangtian-gege!"
Liu Anna shot Zhao Jiake an annoyed glare before throwing a bright smile and lunging into Meng Jiangtian’s arms.
Before Meng Jiangtian could push her away, she quickly let go of him on her own.
She didn’t want to be flung aside in front of Cui Xisheng again.
Liu Anna wasn’t stupid.
She had long noticed that Meng Jiangtian treated Cui Xisheng differently.
She just couldn’t bring herself to believe it—Meng Jiangtian actually liked a guy?
Back then, they had been childhood friends.
Losing to another girl would have been one thing, but losing to a man?
That made her unwilling to accept defeat.
Besides, in this post-apocalyptic world, if she wanted to survive, she had to cling to a powerful ability user like Meng Jiangtian.
