The student council president was having a tough time. Already struggling under Meng Jiangtian’s overwhelming aura, he was further infuriated by Zhao Huanrui’s shameless attitude. He nearly suffocated from the anger building up inside him.

He glared fiercely at Zhao Huanrui, mentally planning a thousand ways to make him pay for this.

"I did it for those people. If I hadn’t said that, no one would have dared to distribute the food. You saw it too, if those people don’t get food soon, there’s no need for you to save them—they’ll just starve to death and be thrown away!" The student council president, feeling guilty, tried to justify himself, though his words were full of bluster.

"So, you admit you took credit for Jiangtian-ge’s efforts?" Liu Anna suddenly perked up and loudly demanded an answer.

"Didn’t you understand my explanation?" The student council president, his anger boiling, was on the verge of spitting out blood. This woman always managed to pick the worst time to press the most inconvenient questions.

"I understood. You just want to claim all of Jiangtian-ge's credit for yourself!" Liu Anna persisted, unwilling to let it go.

"I did it to make sure people could eat!" The student council president rolled his eyes in exasperation. "How long are you going to keep this up?"

"But why didn’t you explain to them that the food came from Jiangtian-ge, instead of letting Zhao Huanrui lie for you?" Liu Anna pointed at Mr. Bai and asked again.

"Explain what? I didn’t tell Zhao Huanrui to do that. He just took the credit and put it on me—that’s his problem, not mine!" The student council president, cornered, tried to shift the blame to Zhao Huanrui.

"President, you can’t slander me like this!" Zhao Huanrui immediately reacted, feeling the attention suddenly focused on him.

"Slander you? Did I ever say you should claim the food as mine?" The student council president shot back, defending himself with increasing confidence.

In truth, he hadn’t ordered Zhao Huanrui to take the credit for the food, but Zhao Huanrui, ever quick to read the situation, had done it on his own, and the president hadn't opposed it either.

"Then why didn’t you stop him?" Zhao Huanrui shot back, exposing the president's true feelings.

"I didn’t stop him, but that doesn’t mean I agreed with him," the student council president retorted.

"No opposition means consent. You just wanted to take Jiangtian-ge’s credit!" Liu Anna shouted.

"I didn’t want to take his credit. I just wanted those people to have something to eat!" The student council president said, now growing visibly frustrated.

"Then why didn’t you tell them directly that the food was brought back by Jiangtian-ge?" Liu Anna pressed on.

"Because Zhao Huanrui said it was brought back by us, I didn’t say anything," the president explained.

"But you didn’t oppose it," Zhao Huanrui said, adding fuel to the fire.

"Not opposing something doesn’t mean I agree with it!"

"Not opposing it means you implicitly agreed, you shameless person!" Liu Anna shot back.

"I already told you, I did it because..." The president was about to continue explaining when—

"Enough!" Mr. Bai suddenly shouted, interrupting their back-and-forth.

Rubbing his temples in frustration, Mr. Bai had a headache from listening to their endless circular arguments. Although the conversation was chaotic, at least he now understood the situation clearly.

It was much as he had expected: two opportunistic individuals, one vain and eager to climb the social ladder, the other simply looking for a chance to win favor.

None of them were worth much. The little white rabbit, however, was far better—cute and trouble-free.

"Wang Kun, did you guys distribute the food earlier?" Mr. Bai asked, glancing covertly at Cui Xisheng, careful not to stare too long. He quickly turned to Wang Kun for an answer.

"We did," Wang Kun nodded.

"Do you remember how much was distributed?"

"They have the records," Wang Kun said, pointing at his five teammates not far away.

"I’ll ask one last time—who brought the food back?" Mr. Bai turned to the trio, who were still bickering like roosters.

"Of course, it was Jiangtian-ge. These two didn’t bring back a single bag," Liu Anna immediately answered.

The student council president and Zhao Huanrui fell silent.

Mr. Bai nodded and made a few notes in his book: "Food can be exchanged for contribution points. Since there’s a record, I’ll report this to the higher-ups when I get back."

The little white rabbit was still looking at him, and after the shame he felt under Meng Jiangtian’s pressure, Mr. Bai now felt too embarrassed to face the little white rabbit. He hurriedly left.

The student council president shot a cold glare at Zhao Huanrui, who had betrayed him, and snorted before turning and walking away.

Zhao Huanrui didn’t follow the student council president. Instead, he smiled at Meng Jiangtian and said, "Meng Jiangtian, all of this was the student council president’s idea. I swear."

He raised three fingers and swore, then nervously glanced at the scorching sky before continuing, "Look, I’ve backed off now. I’m turning over a new leaf and helping you. From now on, I’ll follow you. You’re my boss now."

"Do you really need a boss to survive? I don’t need a fence-sitter as my subordinate," Meng Jiangtian bluntly rejected Zhao Huanrui, turning to leave with Cui Xisheng and Liu Anna.

Zhao Huanrui stood there, looking between the student council president and Meng Jiangtian, feeling lost.

Who should he follow? Maybe he could carve out a path for himself?

Wang Kun and his five teammates continued to search for survivors. Before they could enter the safe zone, Meng Jiangtian was tasked with the first mission: escorting 108 people to the safe zone.

The three large buses were packed with 108 people, with Zhao Huanrui, the student council president, and Meng Jiangtian each following one bus, along with other ability users to ensure their safety.

The buses couldn’t fly, so on the way back, they encountered numerous zombies blocking the road. However, it seemed the zombies’ evolution speed wasn’t as fast as that of human ability users. The zombies were still slow-moving and were easily killed.

Meng Jiangtian, holding Cui Xisheng, sat on top of the bus, casually throwing wind blades to kill the zombies blocking the way.

The ability users following them immediately stepped up, cutting off the zombies' heads and searching for crystal cores.

Along the way, Meng Jiangtian noticed that they had already dug out seven crystal cores.

Crystal cores were certainly valuable, but he wondered if there were any other ability users with the same devouring ability as him in the safe zone.

After four hours of protection from six ability users, the bus finally reached the safe zone, located in the suburbs.

The safe zone was surrounded by a high wall, about three meters tall, and from the outside, no one could see inside. The wall was topped with a nearly two-meter-high electric fence, and at regular intervals, there were sentry posts.

Inside the sentry posts were long guns, which Meng Jiangtian didn’t recognize, but they appeared to be machine guns.

The soldiers in the sentry posts had no signs of ability fluctuations, indicating they were ordinary people.

Outside the safe zone, the ground was stained red with blood, and the walls were covered in scratch marks, showing signs of numerous battles.

Seeing the bloodstains, Cui Xisheng gagged and immediately rushed into Meng Jiangtian’s arms. He still couldn’t handle scenes like this.

Meng Jiangtian held Cui Xisheng’s back, propping up a large umbrella, as a light breeze surrounded them.

The gate of the safe zone was two meters tall and looked very heavy. Mr. Bai swiped a card, and with two beeps, the gate slowly opened.

As the gate opened, everyone realized that not only was the wall high, but also very thick. The space behind the gate formed a small tunnel. The bus passed through, and the wall's thickness was about the length of two buses.

That thickness was definitely solid.

Behind the gate was a scene of prosperity: crowded streets, bustling shops, and a life that resembled the pre-apocalyptic world. This stood in stark contrast to the blood and destruction outside.

Inside the bus, the people opened the windows and stuck their heads out, looking at the thriving streets. They were excited, emotional, and some were even crying with joy. Everyone was cheering.

They had finally seen the world they had longed to return to. The past week had felt like a nightmare.

They hoped this place would remain safe forever, and they wanted to live here until the end of their days.

The bus stopped in a large plaza. The 108 ordinary people were led away, while the ability users followed Mr. Bai to another location.

Liu Anna and Cui Xisheng, being ordinary people, were supposed to go with the 108 to register. But Meng Jiangtian didn’t let go of Cui Xisheng, and Liu Anna clung to him. Mr. Bai had no choice but to take the three of them, along with the student council president and Zhao Huanrui, into a magnificent building designated for ability users.

They reached the second floor, and Mr. Bai knocked on a door.

The door was opened from inside, and a young military officer in a uniform greeted them with a smile. "Welcome, ability users, to the capital's safe zone. Please come in. The general has been waiting for you."

The group filed in, and the young military officer’s eyes widened when he saw Cui Xisheng.

Cui Xisheng moved closer to Meng Jiangtian, who immediately pulled him into an embrace and shot a warning glance at the young military officer.

Realizing his mistake, the young officer smiled apologetically.

It was the first time someone hadn’t looked at him with that disgusting possessive gaze. Just now, the young officer had been stunned by Cui Xisheng's beauty.

Cui Xisheng unconsciously glanced back at the young officer, and the officer smiled warmly and affectionately.

Cui Xisheng politely smiled back. When Meng Jiangtian saw this, he felt a wave of jealousy and sourness.

This little wildcat hadn’t smiled at him in two months, but now he was smiling so sweetly at a stranger.

So many people had been eyeing him, but this little wildcat still didn’t realize how alluring he was. That smile nearly stole his soul.

Looking at the young officer, who seemed inexperienced, his eyes almost popped out as he looked at his little wildcat.

Just a smile from Cui Xisheng had turned the officer from a warm guy into a complete mess, saliva nearly dripping onto his chest.

Cui Xisheng sighed inwardly, seeing that familiar look. He had thought he’d met someone special, but it was the same as usual.

Clinging tightly to Meng Jiangtian, Cui Xisheng stopped looking at the young military officer.

The young officer, seeing the disappointment in Cui Xisheng's eyes, felt a pang of pain in his heart. He subconsciously reached out to comfort Cui Xisheng.

Just as his hand was about to touch Cui Xisheng, a loud slap sounded. Meng Jiangtian’s hand had struck the officer’s hand, causing it to turn red.

The two walked at the back, and the loud slap made everyone turn around. Even the general sitting behind a desk looked over.

When the general saw Cui Xisheng, his eyes lit up.
