"Although Meng Jiangtian took advantage of his ability, we’ve always been going out to find food as well. You can’t just erase our contributions."
The student council president grew bolder with each word, eventually turning the questioning back on Liu Anna.
Liu Anna was momentarily caught off guard by the president’s aggressive demeanor. Indeed, there were some things about Meng Jiangtian’s actions these past few days that were difficult to explain.
Liu Anna was speechless, and it seemed like there were hidden details behind the scenes. Mr. Bai watched the situation with great interest, sensing the underlying tensions among these ability users. In the early days of the apocalypse, they were already competing with each other, and once they reached the safe zone, their internal struggles would likely intensify.
If Meng Jiangtian were to lose in this internal competition or face some misfortune, then Mr. Bai would have the opportunity to take advantage of the situation and capture the little white rabbit behind him.
"Little girl, do you have anything to say?" Mr. Bai asked, prompting Liu Anna to respond as he looked at Meng Jiangtian with a hint of provocation.
The child behind Meng Jiangtian seemed very attached to him, and Mr. Bai knew that he was acting out of jealousy for a child he’d just met, but he couldn’t help but covet the trust the boy placed in Meng Jiangtian. He wanted to replace him as the one the child would rely on.
Meng Jiangtian noticed Mr. Bai's challenging gaze and felt somewhat confused. He could tell that Mr. Bai’s focus was on the child, Cui Xisheng, who seemed to feel the same, tightening his grip on Meng Jiangtian’s arm.
Realization struck Meng Jiangtian: the kid’s charm was growing stronger, even attracting envy from people who’d just met him. A smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth as he cast Mr. Bai a condescending glance. What courage did a low-level ability user like him have to provoke him?
Liu Anna hesitated and turned her gaze toward Meng Jiangtian.
Meng Jiangtian, uninterested in the matter, replied indifferently, "Why should I share the food I brought back with others?"
He then looked directly at Mr. Bai, his aura growing more oppressive.
Liu Anna and the others felt a heavy pressure in their chests, with the ordinary people on the rooftop collapsing to the ground, coughing up blood from the sheer intensity of Meng Jiangtian’s presence.
Liu Anna fell to her knees, face flushed. Meng Jiangtian glanced at her and roughly pulled her up, tossing her behind him.
It was a momentary pressure, but Liu Anna felt cold sweat pouring down her back, her limbs weak, gasping for breath as she leaned on Cui Xisheng. Cui Xisheng shoved her away, and she fell to the ground, landing painfully.
The ability users from the safe zone, who were closest to Meng Jiangtian, staggered and nearly collapsed, some vomiting blood in the process.
Mr. Bai, who was the closest, struggled to stay upright but took a few steps back, spitting blood.
Meng Jiangtian immediately raised a wind barrier to block the blood flying toward him.
"Enough, Meng Jiangtian. If you continue like this, people will die," Mr. Bai said in a strained voice, though his tone remained tough.
Meng Jiangtian glared down at Mr. Bai, "Then are you prepared to give me an explanation?"
"I’ll give you an explanation when I figure out the full story," Mr. Bai replied.
Meng Jiangtian’s eyes narrowed. "Do I really need to know the details? You still stole my food, and that’s what matters."
"It wasn’t me who took the food," Mr. Bai insisted, trying to explain. "By the time I arrived, the food had already been distributed. I’ll find out what happened and give you an explanation afterward."
Meng Jiangtian’s expression remained cold. "I hope you can give me a satisfactory explanation."
Meanwhile, someone in the distance, unable to withstand the pressure, cried out in pain, clearly injured.
Meng Jiangtian sensed the right moment and withdrew his aura. Immediately, a wave of relief passed through the crowd, with many sighing in unison.
Mr. Bai coughed violently and spat blood again, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. Slowly, he stood straight, though his body was still shaky. He felt a deep, unrelenting frustration rising in him, his eyes darting toward the innocent-looking Cui Xisheng, whose clear, doe-like eyes seemed to gaze right through him.
Mr. Bai felt his face flush with embarrassment. In front of anyone else, he wouldn’t have cared, but being in front of the child made him feel as though he wanted to crawl into a hole and hide.
He couldn’t help but look at Meng Jiangtian again, secretly swearing to train harder. One day, he would capture that little white rabbit for himself.
But for now, he had to endure his humiliation.
"Tell me, what happened with those food supplies?" Mr. Bai growled at Wang Kun, who was standing nearby.
"I’m not entirely sure," Wang Kun said, his voice defensive. "It was these two who said that the food was theirs to distribute, so we gave it to the ordinary people. Nobody told me it was your food, and you didn’t stop us either."
Wang Kun felt wronged. When the food was being divided, Meng Jiangtian had been standing right there, but he hadn’t objected. Now it seemed like Meng Jiangtian was just looking for trouble.
"Would it have mattered if I’d stopped you?" Meng Jiangtian retorted coldly. "By the time I came back, you’d already distributed everything. Do you expect me to go back and take the food from their throats?"
Wang Kun, feeling guilty, pointed the blame at the president and Zhao Huanrui. "It’s not my fault! They were the ones who tricked us."
Zhao Huanrui, clutching his chest, immediately turned on the student council president. "It’s not my fault! The president told me to do it."
Having just witnessed Meng Jiangtian’s terrifying power, Zhao Huanrui realized that following the hypocritical student council president wouldn’t get him anywhere. Meng Jiangtian was the one to follow now.
He had no resilience like a soil-type ability user. Instead, he was more like a fickle, opportunistic character.
