Inside the emergency room, Hao Ren conducted a thorough examination on Cui Xisheng, who lay on the operating table, watching the blood from the transfusion bag slowly flow into his veins.

Despite his dizziness, he still had the energy to joke, "It’s just morning sickness. Do I really need to occupy an emergency room? And why am I getting a blood transfusion?"

"You’re anemic, so of course, you need a transfusion. Besides, you’re a rare specimen now—you can definitely afford to take up an emergency room," Hao Ren replied seriously while examining Cui Xisheng’s stomach.

"Dean Hao, who else knows about my pregnancy? How did you get the other doctors to keep it a secret?"

"As of now, I’m the only one who knows. To keep your secret, I had to sabotage several ultrasound machines—took a major financial hit—just to make everyone believe the machines were faulty and that you weren’t actually pregnant."

"Then I really have to thank you, Dean." Cui Xisheng suddenly felt another wave of dizziness. His vision darkened as he closed his eyes and expressed his gratitude.

"Don’t overthink things. You need to keep a good mood right now," Hao Ren said while reviewing Cui Xisheng’s blood test results, his expression growing increasingly serious.

"What’s wrong, Dean? Is something wrong with the baby?" Cui Xisheng opened his eyes just in time to catch Hao Ren’s grim expression, and his heart sank.

Hao Ren glanced at him, frowning. "The baby is fine, but there’s something unusual."

"Unusual? What do you mean? Is it deformed? But it’s only seven weeks—shouldn’t it be too early to tell?"

"Don’t jump to conclusions—it’s not a deformity issue. It’s just that… how do I put this? The baby’s vitality is too strong." Hao Ren chose his words carefully, but they still left Cui Xisheng confused.

"I don’t even know how to describe it. Normally, at this stage, we can detect the fetal heartbeat, but yours is abnormally strong—far more intense than usual, like it has an excessive amount of life force.

"On top of that, I found some unidentified substances in your blood. I don’t know what they are, but they resemble a virus.

"This virus is attacking and consuming your red blood cells, which is causing your anemia. And since you haven’t eaten all day, the combination of pregnancy nausea and anemia is making you feel dizzy and sick."

"A virus?! Will it affect my baby?"

"I’m not sure. I’ve never seen anything like this before. For now, it doesn’t seem to have any negative impact on the fetus, but it might not be good for you. Your anemia could become severe in the future.

"You’ll need to eat more iron-rich foods like eggs, meat, organ meats, and leafy green vegetables. You’re a medical student—you should already know this.

"If it gets too serious, the hospital isn’t far from your school. Come here immediately if anything feels off. You have type O blood, so I’ll make sure to keep extra blood in stock for you."

"Honestly, I’d recommend you take a leave of absence now. I can arrange a private hospital room for you, so we can monitor you closely. Once your belly starts to show, you’ll have to take a break from school sooner or later."

"If I take a break, will I be able to return to school after the baby is born?"

"Of course. I can personally handle your leave of absence, ensuring that you’ll be able to finish your final year after a year off."

"There’s less than a month left before summer vacation. I’d rather wait until then to take my leave."

"A month isn’t that short. Your body is already extremely weak, and your anemia is severe. I doubt you’ll even be able to sit through a full class without passing out.

"You're studying at a Traditional Chinese Medicine university—if you faint in class, your pregnancy won’t stay a secret for long."

"..." Cui Xisheng fell silent.

Hao Ren had a point. His three dormmates were already suspicious and kept trying to take his pulse whenever they saw his pale face. He might be able to hide it for now, but he definitely couldn’t keep it a secret for ten months.
