AAISBMEBF Chapter 8: Applying for Leave

"If you want to take a leave of absence, I can handle it with the school. But have you thought about whether to tell your parents?" Hao Ren asked when he saw Cui Xisheng wavering.
"I don’t want to tell them for now."
"Then you'll need a reason to cover these ten months. I can use an illness as an excuse to process your leave with the school, but you’ll have to figure out what to tell your parents."
"I understand."
After receiving a blood transfusion, Cui Xisheng felt slightly better, with less dizziness and nausea. However, his mind was preoccupied, and before he knew it, he had fallen asleep.
When he woke up, he was no longer in the emergency room but in a hospital room.
It was a VIP suite, furnished like a hotel, complete with a sofa, TV, and even a small kitchen.
Hao Ren was sitting on the sofa, still flipping through documents.
Cui Xisheng noticed he was still hooked up to an IV. Hearing movement, Hao Ren approached him. "You're awake. You hadn’t eaten all day, so I put you on a nutrient drip.
"I’ve already coordinated with the school. If you’re feeling up to it, you can go back and complete the leave of absence paperwork. How do you feel now?"
"Not great—my whole body feels weak and sore, and I just want to sleep." Cui Xisheng frowned and closed his eyes again.
"Don’t sleep yet. Get up and eat something. You can’t rely on IV fluids alone—the baby still needs proper nutrition."
"I have no appetite." The thought of greasy food made Cui Xisheng lose his desire to eat.
"I had the cafeteria prepare a special pregnancy meal for you. Try it."
Hao Ren went to the kitchen and brought out the meal, which had been kept warm. The food was light and mild in flavor. Cui Xisheng took a few bites, relieved that it didn’t trigger any nausea.
After finishing his meal, he felt slightly more energetic and decided to go to school to complete the leave paperwork.
"Are you sure you can go to school now?" Hao Ren eyed him skeptically—his face was still as pale as a sheet.
"I feel okay. The sooner I get it done, the sooner I can stop worrying about it." Cui Xisheng held onto the bedside table and stood up. He wasn’t dizzy or seeing black spots, but his legs felt weak and trembled slightly.
"I’ll take you. It’ll be faster with me there." Hao Ren wasn’t reassured and insisted on going along.
"Alright, sorry for the trouble, Dean."
Hao Ren drove Cui Xisheng back to the university, where he met the academic affairs director for the first time.
And unexpectedly ran into Meng Jiangtian again.
"Dean Hao, why did you come in person? You could’ve just given us a call."
"It’s hard to explain over the phone, and it’s close by—handling it in person is quicker."
While Hao Ren and the director exchanged polite formalities, Cui Xisheng hid behind Hao Ren, his entire body stiff as he kept his head down.
He hadn’t expected to run into Meng Jiangtian here. If he had known, he wouldn’t have forced himself to come today despite feeling unwell.
Meng Jiangtian’s gaze was fixed on him, but Cui Xisheng avoided making eye contact, his mind in complete turmoil.
"You can process this student’s paperwork first—we’re not in a hurry," Hao Ren said.
"His paperwork is almost done, Dean. As for this student, Meng Jiangtian, he’s a top achiever. Even though he’s only in his third year, hospitals are already offering him internships."
"That’s great. Looks like our school will be producing another famous doctor soon."
Then, looking at the young student, Hao Ren couldn’t help but offer some words of advice.
"Young man, medicine is unlike other professions. No matter how skilled you are, never let arrogance cloud your judgment. Always be meticulous when treating patients.
"Many illnesses present as a combination of symptoms—if you overlook even one detail, the consequences could be disastrous."
