Meng Jiangtian quickly found the public swimming pool. The water was filled with all kinds of debris, and the water quality was murky.
But at least it was a place to wash up. Meng Jiangtian cleaned himself, changed into new clothes, and quickly flew back to the school.
He had been gone for a day, and he wasn’t sure if Cui Xisheng had been eating properly.
The sun was setting, and it was clear the students on the school rooftop had been hungry all day. Each of them looked at Cui Xisheng with a fierce expression.
Zhao Jiake and Cui Xisheng had managed to eat two red date buns and drink a bottle of red date milk. Although they weren’t full, they weren’t starving either.
However, the hundred or so people around them were glaring at Zhao Jiake and Cui Xisheng with ferocity. Zhao Jiake’s stomach was cramping, as if he was about to have diarrhea.
The few ability users who had left in the morning still hadn’t returned. If they didn’t come back soon, Zhao Jiake was afraid he wouldn’t be able to protect Cui Xisheng alone.
“Cui Xisheng, I need to tell you something.” Zhao Jiake kept his eyes fixed on the restless crowd. He didn’t turn around and whispered to Cui Xisheng.
“What is it?” Cui Xisheng was also feeling anxious.
The food in his hands felt like a death sentence. Zhao Jiake alone couldn’t stop over a hundred people.
He had already eaten several red date buns to ensure he could last longer in case the food was stolen.
Luckily, he hadn’t had morning sickness today; otherwise, no matter how much he ate, it wouldn’t help. His baby was being well-behaved, not causing trouble during this time.
“Throw all your food out. I’m afraid I won’t be able to fight these people off. I can’t protect you.”
“Okay.” Cui Xisheng didn’t hesitate and reached behind to grab the box he had hidden. He had the same idea.
But before Cui Xisheng could pull out the box, three boys from the crowd had already rushed toward them with aggression in their eyes.
“What do you want to do?” Zhao Jiake immediately became tense and stood in front of Cui Xisheng.
“You should know what we want. There are so many of us, you can’t protect him. Hand over the food, and we won’t make things difficult for you two.” The three boys took the lead, and the hesitant people behind them also stood up, glaring fiercely at Zhao Jiake.
“Don’t you fear what Meng Jiangtian will do when he comes back?” Zhao Jiake was ready to give up the food, but handing it over voluntarily was different from being threatened into doing it.
“They haven’t come back all day. Who knows where they’ve gone? Maybe those ability users abandoned us and ran away. They’re not invincible either. They might have already been eaten by zombies. I’m not staying here any longer. After tonight, I’m leaving. Staying here is just waiting for death.”
“If you’re sensible, hand over the food. We only want the food, we don’t want to kill anyone.”
The three boys took a step forward, and the people behind them followed suit, moving closer. The pressure from over a hundred people was no less intimidating than the pressure from the ability users.
Zhao Jiake felt his legs weakening but forced himself to stand firm and said harshly, “You better think this through. If Meng Jiangtian comes back and sees you stealing his friend’s food, I can’t guarantee your lives.”
“Threatening us? If Meng Jiangtian were alive, he would have returned by now. Don’t be scared of him. Who knows if those ability users will come back?”
“If they don’t, we’ll have no food or water. We’re all going to die anyway, so who cares about revenge from the ability users?”
“You’re a good dog, but today, I’ll let you die for your master.”
Zhao Jiake’s words made the crowd hesitate for a moment. Ability users weren’t people they could afford to offend right now.
