"Keep an eye on him." Meng Jiangtian didn’t answer Zhao Jiake’s question and immediately leaped away again.

Zhao Jiake watched Meng Jiangtian’s retreating back with some disappointment, then turned to look at the still-angry Cui Xisheng, his eyes growing firmer.

He wasn’t wrong—Meng Jiangtian clearly cared a lot for Cui Xisheng. As long as he took care of him, Meng Jiangtian would definitely accept him as his underling.

"I won’t eat, even if I starve to death," Cui Xisheng snapped, still not looking at Zhao Jiake.

Zhao Jiake sat down nearby with the box, unconcerned about Cui Xisheng not eating. When a person gets hungry enough, even their own kind can’t resist food, especially something so sweet-smelling.

Not long after Meng Jiangtian left, he returned, carrying several new mattresses. Zhao Jiake nudged Cui Xisheng and smiled, "I told you, Meng Jiangtian really cares about you."

Cui Xisheng opened his eyes and coldly stared at Meng Jiangtian, his thoughts circling with the words "hungry ghost with bad intentions."

All this care—wasn’t it just because he was after his body? Tch, despicable!

Meng Jiangtian brought back four mattresses, laid them together, and formed a double bed. He also brought back a bucket and placed it beside the mattress, saying to Cui Xisheng, "If you need to vomit, do it in here. I’ll take care of it afterward."

"No need for the trouble. I’ll just empty it downstairs. It’s convenient since this building’s empty," Zhao Jiake offered with a smile, trying to please Meng Jiangtian.

Meng Jiangtian gave him a glance and nodded. "Take care of him. Don’t let him fight with Liu Anna again. He won’t starve you."

"No problem. I can separate them with just one hand. They won’t be able to fight," Zhao Jiake promised confidently.

Meng Jiangtian turned to Cui Xisheng, who glared back.

Meng Jiangtian, expressionless, stepped forward a few steps. Cui Xisheng immediately became wary. "What do you want to do?"

"I just want to rest for a while," Meng Jiangtian said, sitting down on the mattress.

"Then rest," Cui Xisheng said, immediately trying to get up and leave.

But Meng Jiangtian grabbed his wrist. "Let’s rest together."

Cui Xisheng, startled, immediately pulled his wrist away, his heart racing in panic. He almost lost control of his emotions.

Meng Jiangtian hadn’t held him tightly, but Cui Xisheng used all his strength to shake him off. Meng Jiangtian looked at his released hand and sighed, standing up to pull Cui Xisheng back down.

"What do you want to do? Don’t try anything weird," Cui Xisheng warned, clutching the front of Meng Jiangtian’s clothes, trying to stay firm even as his words faltered.

"With you like this, how could I do anything weird?" Meng Jiangtian smiled teasingly, making Cui Xisheng even more alert, pushing against him.

Meng Jiangtian rubbed his forehead in frustration. "Fine, stay here and rest. I’ll go elsewhere."

Meng Jiangtian finally relented and left, and Cui Xisheng watched him disappear through the crowd.

Hmph, rejected and now off to find his real girlfriend, right?

Cui Xisheng sneered and lay back down on the mattress, settling in.

As the sun set, the city, which was once brightly lit, plunged into complete darkness due to the collapse of the power grid.

However, the zombies downstairs seemed to enjoy the darkness, and their slow, heavy footsteps along with their eerie groans filled the air, making it impossible for anyone to sleep.

In the pitch-black night, everyone kept their eyes wide open, too afraid to make a sound or reveal any light, lest they attract the zombies.

The fear spread, and Cui Xisheng, too, felt uneasy, as if something might suddenly emerge from the darkness.
