Suddenly, footsteps approached, and Cui Xisheng's heart leapt into his throat.

"Who’s there?" Zhao Jiake immediately positioned himself in front of Cui Xisheng and asked in a low voice.

"It’s me," Meng Jiangtian’s deep voice answered.

Hearing Meng Jiangtian’s voice, Cui Xisheng instantly felt at ease. At times like this, having an ability user by his side was truly a life-saving feeling.

"Brother Jiangtian, I’m so scared," Liu Anna’s voice became clearer in the dark, even more annoying.

"Sleep, I’ll guard you." Meng Jiangtian sat beside Cui Xisheng. Cui Xisheng immediately rolled over to avoid him and fell directly to the floor.

It seemed that even in the dark, Meng Jiangtian could see clearly. He grabbed Cui Xisheng's arm and pulled him back to his side.

Cui Xisheng struggled again, but Meng Jiangtian directly hugged him around the waist and whispered, "Stop it, I’m not doing anything. Sleep."

Meng Jiangtian’s voice carried a hint of exhaustion. He pressed Cui Xisheng down and withdrew his hand, moving a little further away to lie down. There was now a small distance between them.

Cui Xisheng couldn’t see Meng Jiangtian’s face in the dark, but he could tell from his voice that he was tired. After hesitating for a while, Cui Xisheng decided to stay put and not move. At this point, there was no safer place than being near Meng Jiangtian.

The four mattresses were just enough for four people. Meng Jiangtian was between Liu Anna and Cui Xisheng, and Zhao Jiake was beside Cui Xisheng.

Liu Anna, who was between two people for protection, became envious and jealous. "Brother Jiangtian, I’m scared. I don’t want to sleep on the edge, I want to sleep in the middle."

Sleeping in the middle meant being close to him. Cui Xisheng instinctively rejected this and immediately refused without thinking, "I don’t want to sleep next to you. You two drag your mattresses further away and sleep on your own."

"Just sleep," Meng Jiangtian said firmly as he pulled Liu Anna down to lie down, refusing to let her change positions or drag the mattress away.

"Brother Jiangtian..." Liu Anna whined in a childish tone.

"Don’t change," Meng Jiangtian said in a stiff, stern tone, which finally shut Liu Anna up.

Cui Xisheng stared at the star-filled sky, the sound of Meng Jiangtian’s breathing in his ears. It felt like it did when they hadn’t separated—lying on the same bed. At that time, it was sweet, but now it felt filled with resentment. After thinking for a while, Cui Xisheng didn’t even realize when he fell asleep.

When he woke up, the sun had already risen high. Meng Jiangtian and Liu Anna had left, and only Zhao Jiake was sitting beside him, holding Meng Jiangtian’s jacket to block the sunlight.

"You’re awake, you slept pretty deeply," Zhao Jiake said when he saw Cui Xisheng waking up, immediately lowering his arm that had been holding the jacket up for a while. His arm had grown sore.

"What time is it?" Cui Xisheng asked, shielding his eyes from the sun. Judging by the position of the sun, it was already quite late.

"It’s exactly nine in the morning. You slept so deeply. Meng Jiangtian slept for a while last night, and when he woke up, he left. The other ability users went out to find food for us, but they haven’t returned yet," Zhao Jiake glanced at his wristwatch.

Then he suddenly leaned closer to Cui Xisheng with a mischievous look, "Liu Anna was woken up by Meng Jiangtian and taken away before she could fully wake up. She took a mattress with her. So what’s the relationship between you and Meng Jiangtian? When he looked at you while you were sleeping, I could feel there’s a story there."

"Our story is complicated. I don’t want to talk about it," Cui Xisheng glanced at Zhao Jiake, his eyes full of warning.

Seeing that Cui Xisheng wasn’t pleased, Zhao Jiake scratched his head awkwardly and forced a laugh.

The two fell into silence for a moment. Cui Xisheng suddenly felt hungry. He glanced at the box filled with red date-flavored food nearby, his mind filled with hesitation.

Eat or not eat, that is the question.

"Are you hungry? You can eat. The food in here is what Meng Jiangtian left for you. He said if you don’t eat it, he’ll throw it away. If anyone else touches it, he won’t be polite," Zhao Jiake observed Cui Xisheng and handed him a box of red date milk.

"He really said that?" Cui Xisheng was skeptical. Zhao Jiake always seemed to want to play matchmaker between him and Meng Jiangtian, so Cui Xisheng didn’t trust his words.

"Of course. If you don’t believe me, when he comes back, you can ask him yourself."

"Forget it, I’m not asking him," Cui Xisheng was already too hungry. He accepted the red date milk.

In the apocalypse, whether to eat or not was not even a question—finding food was the real problem.

Cui Xisheng soon realized that even if he held resentment against Meng Jiangtian, he shouldn’t starve himself. The apocalypse had only just begun, and there were still things to eat in the supermarket.

Food would only become scarcer in the future, and soon it would be impossible to find any. Besides, there was another life inside him that needed food.

Being picky would only make things worse.

Perhaps the pregnancy nausea had passed, as Cui Xisheng felt much less queasy these past few days and his appetite had returned. He ate two red date-flavored bread rolls and drank a box of red date milk, feeling much better afterward.

With his stomach full, he felt comfortable, and the warm sunlight made him drowsy again. He lay back on the mattress, his eyes closed as he drifted back to sleep.

In his dream, he saw Meng Jiangtian, that old pervert, trying to strip his clothes off.

Cui Xisheng, half awake, realized he was dreaming. Instantly filled with anger, he kicked Meng Jiangtian squarely between the legs.

He heard Meng Jiangtian’s muffled grunt and quickly jumped up.

In his dream, without the burden of his stomach, Cui Xisheng was light and nimble again. He bounced around, attacking Meng Jiangtian on the ground with punches and kicks.

"You old pervert, didn’t you want to break up with me? Didn’t you like women? Aren’t you an ability user? It’s the apocalypse, and yet you’re still thinking about my body. You’re despicable.

Finally, I’ve got you where I want you! I can’t beat you in reality, but in my dream, I’m gonna beat you down! Take this, bastard!"

Cui Xisheng screamed as he charged forward, unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks on the grounded Meng Jiangtian.

"Heh heh heh..." Cui Xisheng smiled evilly in his dream, enjoying himself.

Zhao Jiake, startled by Cui Xisheng’s sudden creepy laugh, stared at him for a while. He waved his hand in front of Cui Xisheng’s eyes, confirming that he was indeed dreaming, and he finally sighed in relief.

Meanwhile, not far from the school, while Meng Jiangtian was flying, he suddenly felt an itch in his nose. He tried to hold it back but couldn't, sneezing.

It was a restrained sneeze, but it immediately caught the attention of the zombies on the ground.

The rotting zombies raised their grotesque heads, and upon seeing Meng Jiangtian, they became excited. Their decaying hands reached out as they howled, trying to grab him.

Meng Jiangtian coldly stared at the zombies on the ground. In a blink, he shot far into the sky. The zombies lost their target, growling in dissatisfaction, and continued wandering aimlessly.

Like an eagle, Meng Jiangtian circled the sky, keeping his eyes fixed on the ground, searching for his intended target.

As he flew around the nearby Chinese Medical University, it only took Meng Jiangtian four or five laps before he spotted the familiar figure.
