Cui Xisheng had no idea what the purpose of the red date box was, but he figured that if Liu Anna refused to let Meng Jiangtian touch it, he would probably take out his frustrations on him. However, the more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He suspected the two of them were playing a game—waiting to get him fattened up before taking advantage of him. He refused to let their plot succeed.
He was so furious that he kicked the box across the ground. The red date-flavored food spilled everywhere, but no one dared to fight over it, as the crowd was still looking at Meng Jiangtian.
Just as Meng Jiangtian and Liu Anna heard the noise and turned around, Cui Xisheng, standing proudly by the wall, snorted and gave Meng Jiangtian a contemptuous look. He raised a finger in the air, a gesture full of insult.
Meng Jiangtian glanced at Cui Xisheng without changing his expression, then turned back and continued to protect Liu Anna as they walked away.
Cui Xisheng watched their backs, thinking back to the day they broke up, when Meng Jiangtian had also ignored him and walked away. The addition of Liu Anna’s presence now made it clear to Cui Xisheng why they had broken up in the first place.
Biting his lip, Cui Xisheng tried to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. Was he really being completely ignored now? After three years of being with him, not even a single penny exchanged, and now he was left with nothing—what a huge loss.
He angrily wiped away the tears, swearing that when he saw Meng Jiangtian again, he would demand compensation. Three years of being a sidekick should be enough to earn him the food he needed from the military to save them.
Before the military arrived, Meng Jiangtian had to support him. If he didn’t, Cui Xisheng threatened to expose their relationship. Once the military arrived to rescue them, he would stay far away from that bastard. They could live without each other.
Cui Xisheng made up his mind, determined to live on his own. But as he rubbed his still-flat stomach, he felt uncertain. The sudden apocalypse had made the world far more dangerous. Would he really be able to deliver his baby safely on his own?
Relying on Meng Jiangtian wasn’t an option anymore. He glanced at Zhao Jiake, who had been supporting him. Perhaps he would need to rely on another protector.
Cui Xisheng slowly sat down and looked at the other three abilities users nearby. Having gotten used to Meng Jiangtian’s presence, these three people just didn’t sit right with him. He cursed himself for being so influenced by Meng Jiangtian, sighed in frustration, and closed his eyes, trying to think of another way out.
Meanwhile, Meng Jiangtian had taken Liu Anna to the other side of the crowd. The hundred or so people were now split between Cui Xisheng and Liu Anna.
On the way back, Meng Jiangtian picked up the red date-flavored snacks Cui Xisheng had kicked away, packed them back into the box, and made sure not a single item was left behind.
No one dared to fight Meng Jiangtian for the food, knowing he was an ability user. Cui Xisheng felt indignant. How could a hundred people be too scared to compete with a single ability user?
Meng Jiangtian held the box and stared at Cui Xisheng for a while. Facing Cui Xisheng’s angry, disdainful, and hateful gaze, he handed the box to Zhao Jiake. "Take this, make sure no one steals it. If he gets hungry, give him a bit. You’re not allowed to eat this; I’ll bring you food separately."
"Don’t worry, I’ll make sure these are safe. If I run out, these will still be good. So, have you agreed to let me stay with you?" Zhao Jiake asked eagerly, clutching the box tightly.
