Liu Anna once again blamed Cui Xisheng for the situation. Meng Jiangtian stood silently by, his face expressionless, showing no clear support for either side.
Cui Xisheng, infuriated by Liu Anna’s shamelessness, rolled his eyes and reached out to grab the box of food. “Since it’s for me, I’ll take it.”
“You already have a whole box. Leave these for those who actually need them. Cui Xisheng, you can’t just rely on Jiang Tian for everything,” Liu Anna said, clutching her precious eight-treasure porridge and bread with a righteous air.
“I don’t like the taste of red dates, I prefer eight-treasure porridge. Since everyone is low on food, I’ll trade this whole box for the four you’re holding. It’s a win-win deal. You’re always thinking of others, so you’ll surely agree to this exchange,” Cui Xisheng said, pushing the box toward her feet.
“Cui Xisheng, I’m not trying to take your food! Don’t slander me. I just think you shouldn’t be so selfish—taking so much food and not eating it is wasting it,” Liu Anna replied, her tone almost exaggerated as though she had been greatly wronged, but her words were incoherent.
Cui Xisheng was left speechless. This was the first time he had witnessed the full force of a “white lotus” in action. He hadn’t said a word about her taking his food, yet she was falsely accusing him of it. She had skillfully fabricated a story and was trying to pin a false accusation on him.
“Everyone, I still have a whole box of food here. If anyone hasn’t had enough to eat, feel free to come and take some. In these special times, I don’t believe in special treatment. I’m just like everyone else—one piece of bread and a bottle of water is enough for me,” Cui Xisheng said, standing up and calling out loudly, pushing the box back toward the crowd. “Liu Anna thinks I’m right, so she also wants to share the food with everyone. If you want some, come and get it.”
With that, he leaned against the wall, his voice booming, drawing everyone's attention. He wasn’t going to let anyone take advantage of him.
Liu Anna stared, shocked by Cui Xisheng’s boldness. In the apocalypse, he was actually giving away food that he could have kept for himself? Was he out of his mind? Did he even understand what kind of world they were living in?
But she was also caught off guard by his unexpected actions. As the crowd surged forward, Liu Anna instinctively hugged her food closer, realizing that she had only come to show off, but had yet to eat anything herself.
She was still hungry, so how could she possibly give her food away? Instinctively, she stepped behind Meng Jiangtian, holding onto him.
“Stop making a scene,” Meng Jiangtian finally spoke, using his wind powers to push the crowd back and return the box to Cui Xisheng.
He glared at the crowd, his eyes cold and dangerous, like a demon from hell.
Seeing the warning in Meng Jiangtian’s eyes, the crowd immediately froze, retreating obediently.
Meng Jiangtian, satisfied with his intimidation, turned and escorted Liu Anna through the hungry crowd, heading toward the shabby mats.
Liu Anna was pleased by his protection. She purposely shook her wrist where Meng Jiangtian was holding her hand and flashed a sweet smile at Cui Xisheng over her shoulder.
Cui Xisheng snorted in disdain, rolling his eyes once more. But deep inside, he couldn’t help but feel angry and out of breath.
Liu Anna was causing trouble for him, and Meng Jiangtian was just standing there watching. Whenever Cui Xisheng finally retaliated, Meng Jiangtian would step in, looking after Liu Anna, as though he was concerned for her.
Was he really concerned about that "white lotus"?
Cui Xisheng cursed Zhao Jiake under his breath. If Zhao Jiake hadn’t been so clueless, always trying to act like a wise person, he wouldn’t have gotten the wrong idea and believed that Meng Jiangtian still cared about him.
Meng Jiangtian only cared about his girlfriend, not about his sidekick's feelings.
