Cui Xisheng’s heart pounded wildly as he slumped into a chair, gasping for breath. A faint stabbing pain came from his abdomen—maybe he had walked too fast, disturbing the baby inside him.
He gently touched his stomach, feeling the pain gradually fade. A wave of fear washed over him. He couldn't afford to move so recklessly anymore.
Then, he thought about the sweet voice he had heard at the school gate, and a surge of grievance overwhelmed him.
He was carrying that man's child, yet that man had just brought his girlfriend to campus.
Cui Xisheng looked down at his stomach and smacked it with his palm.
This child couldn’t stay.
Feeling miserable, he hadn’t been back long before another wave of nausea hit, and he ended up vomiting again. Lying on his dorm bed, he felt nothing but loneliness and frustration.
Grief, isolation, resentment, bitterness—every negative emotion seemed magnified.
Tears streamed down his face.
No one was there to see anyway.
He cried and cursed Meng Jiangtian between sobs when, suddenly, the dormitory door swung open.
Qi Sheng stood at the entrance, staring at Cui Xisheng with wide eyes.
"What’s wrong? You’re crying like your heart’s been broken," Qi Sheng said as he closed the door, taking in Cui Xisheng’s tear-streaked, swollen face.
He must have really gone through something painful.
"It’s nothing. I just ate too much," Cui Xisheng sniffled, hastily wiping his tears.
For three years, he had never told anyone about his relationship with Meng Jiangtian.
The school allowed male-female relationships but would never tolerate two men dating. Most people still couldn’t accept that.
For their future, neither of them had ever spoken about it.
His dormmates had no clue he had a boyfriend. For three years, they had taken great joy in setting him up with various girls—only for him to refuse every single one.
"Do you take me for an idiot? Who cries their eyes swollen from overeating?" Qi Sheng said skeptically. He leaned over Cui Xisheng’s bed, staring him straight in the eye. "Are we not brothers? Just tell me what’s wrong. Why are you hiding things from me?"
"It’s really nothing big. I just… got dumped by my girlfriend," Cui Xisheng blurted out, making up an excuse.
Well, not entirely made up—at least 90% of it was true. He had been dumped.
Qi Sheng was the type to never let go of something once he latched onto it. He wasn’t going to drop the subject without getting a proper answer.
"A girlfriend? You had a girlfriend?! Since when?" Qi Sheng grabbed Cui Xisheng’s arm, eyes gleaming with excitement.
The moment Cui Xisheng saw that look, he felt his headache intensify.
Not only was Qi Sheng stubborn, but he was also ridiculously nosy. Sometimes, Cui Xisheng suspected this guy had been a cat in his past life.
Once his curiosity was piqued, there was no escaping his interrogation.
With a sigh, Cui Xisheng closed his eyes, his brain spinning at full speed, burning through billions of brain cells per second.
Finally, he cobbled together a somewhat believable love story.
"I did have a girlfriend. We met in high school. After we got into college, we were in a long-distance relationship. We endured for three years… and today, we broke up." Cui Xisheng spoke with as much sincerity as he could muster, making sure there was no hint of a lie in his expression.
"Seriously? Three years? And you never mentioned her?" Qi Sheng fired off more questions. "What’s her name? Which university is she from?"
Cui Xisheng wanted to die.
How was he supposed to come up with that much detail on such short notice?
Burying his face into his pillow to hide the guilt in his eyes, he let out a heartbroken wail.
"Stop asking! I don’t want to think about her anymore. I’m already miserable—don’t make it worse!"
