“We are friends. I have the ability, and I will save whoever I can.”
Meng Jiangtian’s response made the light in Cui Xisheng’s eyes dim instantly.
“Just friends?” Cui Xisheng asked, unwilling to give up.
“If not friends, then what do you think we are?” Meng Jiangtian stared into Cui Xisheng’s eyes, the corners of his lips curling into a strange smile.
A sharp pain shot through Cui Xisheng’s heart. Was Meng Jiangtian mocking him with that smile?
Pressing his lips together, Cui Xisheng regretted asking such a humiliating question. Wasn’t the answer obvious?
They were just friends with benefits—three years of it, nothing more.
He should be grateful that Meng Jiangtian even came to save him. If it weren’t for him, he would have already been torn apart and eaten alive by that newly turned zombie.
“Thank you for saving me. I just have severe anemia. Since the hospital isn’t safe anymore, I’ll trouble you to take me out of here.
I have nothing to repay you with for saving my life. If you don’t mind, I can only offer my body. We’ve been together for three years—you don’t hate my body, do you?”
Since they were only friends with benefits, repaying a life-saving debt with his body seemed the most fitting option.
The smile on Meng Jiangtian’s lips slowly faded into cold indifference. He grabbed Cui Xisheng’s hand—not gently—before saying coolly, “Then let’s go.”
The window was already shattered. Meng Jiangtian lifted Cui Xisheng into his arms—horizontally. The position was intimate, exactly like how he used to carry him to bed every time before they slept together.
Now, the same position again. Cui Xisheng let out a self-mocking smile. It seemed he really would have to use his body to repay Meng Jiangtian this time.
Meng Jiangtian leaped from the fifth-floor window. The rapid descent made Cui Xisheng’s heart tighten as he instinctively clung to Meng Jiangtian’s neck.
He couldn’t see the ground, but he could feel the wind howling beneath him. The scenery before his eyes rose higher and higher until they finally stopped in midair.
The endless wails from below made Cui Xisheng glance down.
Just one look made his scalp tingle, and his entire body trembled.
The streets were packed with zombies, their rotting bodies shuffling aimlessly. Occasionally, a human who hadn’t hidden well would be discovered, and a swarm of zombies would instantly pounce on them.
The screams of the victims barely lasted a second before their bodies were torn apart.
Trissy’s stomach twisted again, but with nothing left to vomit, he could only dry heave. Shoving his face into Meng Jiangtian’s neck, he refused to witness the horrors below any longer.
The hospital wasn’t far from the school—just a fifteen-minute walk. Flying, it took even less time.
The campus was just as chaotic. Among the countless zombies, Trissy recognized a few familiar faces.
They were his former classmates. Some of them he had even been on good terms with. But now, they were no longer the same species.
The girls’ dormitory was a seven-story building, shared with the graduate and doctoral students. Its rooftop was spacious.
The surviving humans had been gathered there. As soon as the crowd saw Meng Jiangtian land with Cui Xisheng in his arms, they instinctively stepped aside to make way.
Though the apocalypse had just begun, the reverence for ability users was already evident.
“Jiangtian-gege, where did you go? Who is he?”
Meng Jiangtian landed beside Liu Anna, who looked at Cui Xisheng with clear, curious eyes.
Meng Jiangtian and Cui Xisheng had been very discreet. In their three years together, no one had known about their relationship.
Liu Anna had never even heard of Cui Xisheng before.
