Liu Anna now looked at Cui Xisheng with a friendly gaze. As Cui Xisheng stared into those adorably wide eyes of hers, he had the sudden urge to tell her about his relationship with Meng Jiangtian.

He wondered what kind of expression would appear in those big eyes once she heard the truth.

“He’s a friend,” Meng Jiangtian gave a brief introduction as he slowly put down Cui Xisheng’s legs.

As soon as his feet touched the ground, Cui Xisheng quickly let go of Meng Jiangtian’s hands and took a step back, standing firmly on his own.

“Your friend? How come I’ve never seen him before?” Liu Anna circled around Cui Xisheng, eyeing him up and down. She had met all of Meng Jiangtian’s friends after a lot of coaxing and pestering—but she had never seen Cui Xisheng’s face.

She had even investigated Meng Jiangtian before returning to the country and found no trace of this so-called friend.

Either Meng Jiangtian was lying and this guy wasn’t really his friend, or there were things Meng Jiangtian was keeping from her.

Either way, the fact that Meng Jiangtian was doing something beyond her control made Liu Anna very uncomfortable.

Meng Jiangtian didn’t answer Liu Anna’s question. Someone came over to speak with him, and after a silent glance at Cui Xisheng, Meng Jiangtian left with them.

Now face-to-face with her boyfriend’s ex, Cui Xisheng felt awkward.

But Liu Anna just smiled sweetly and extended her hand. “I’m Liu Anna—Jiangtian ge’s girlfriend.”

“Hi, I’m Cui Xisheng. Meng Jiangtian and I are just regular classmates.” Cui Xisheng shook her pale, delicate hand. It was much smaller than his, and very soft.

“I feel like I’ve seen you before,” Liu Anna said, studying his face. There was something familiar about him, but she couldn’t quite place it.

“I’m a student here too. Maybe we crossed paths sometime,” Cui Xisheng replied, his stomach churning. He felt exhausted and didn’t want to keep up this conversation. He found a corner, sat down against the wall, and closed his eyes to rest.

“You don’t look well. Are you sick?” Liu Anna asked, unwilling to let go of a friend of Meng Jiangtian’s she hadn’t managed to investigate. She sat down beside him and began to question him again.

“No, just anemia,” Cui Xisheng replied, suppressing his irritation and keeping his eyes shut.

“Guys can get anemia?”

That question was so dumb it made Cui Xisheng want to laugh. The corners of his mouth twitched. “Anemia doesn’t discriminate by gender.”

“Oh. So what caused yours?”

“Do you know anything about medicine?” Cui Xisheng asked back.

“No, I studied music. But I really admire doctors. You save lives—that’s amazing.”

“Well, since you don’t know medicine, even if I told you the cause of my anemia, you wouldn’t understand.”

“Sorry, I was just curious. Now that the apocalypse is here, my three years of music study feel useless. Medicine seems much more useful in a time like this. I want to learn more about it.

Can you teach me some basic medical techniques? At a crucial moment, maybe I’ll be able to save someone.”

“Aren’t you close to Meng Jiangtian? He’s a top student—ask him.”

“Jiangtian ge is busy saving people every day. He doesn’t have time to teach me. Plus, I’ve known him since we were kids, and I know his personality best—he’s always thought I was dumb. He’d never teach me.

He says it’s enough that he’ll protect me and won’t let me get hurt. He treats me like a delicate flower in a greenhouse. But in this world, I can’t rely on others forever. I need to be able to protect myself too.

Cui, just teach me a bit of basic first aid. I don’t want to become a doctor or anything.”

Is this woman trying to show off her relationship? Cui Xisheng wondered. Is she doing it on purpose, or is she just naturally this sweet and clingy?

Either way, he found it incredibly annoying.
