The expected pain did not come. Instead, accompanied by the sound of shattering glass, the weight on Cui Xisheng's arm suddenly lifted, followed by an inhuman scream that made him snap his eyes open.
As soon as he looked up, the headless corpse of the middle-aged woman stood before him, thick, blackened, foul-smelling blood gushing endlessly from her neck. Cui Xisheng took one glance, then immediately turned away, retching so hard it felt like he was going to vomit his throat out.
A cup of warm water appeared in front of him, and a large, warm hand gently patted his back.
Cui Xisheng looked up to see Meng Jiangtian’s cold face entering his vision. He was so shocked that his dry heaving stopped altogether.
“You—why are you here!?”
“Do you still feel like throwing up?” Meng Jiangtian frowned at him. After being together for three years, he had never known Cui Xisheng suffered from such severe anemia.
Reaching out, Meng Jiangtian tried to check his pulse.
Cui Xisheng was startled and hastily pulled his hand back, jerking so hard that Meng Jiangtian staggered, nearly losing his balance.
“What are you doing?!” Cui Xisheng’s heart pounded wildly—he had almost been found out.
“The apocalypse has begun. The hospital is no longer safe. What exactly is wrong with you? If it's serious, then I'll have to clear out the hospital. If it's not, you need to come with me right now.”
“What apocalypse? Are you shooting a movie?”
“The movie has become reality. That thing is a zombie.” Meng Jiangtian pointed at the headless middle-aged woman.
Cui Xisheng followed his finger and took another glance, immediately turning away again as his stomach lurched, threatening to make him vomit once more.
“A month ago, cases of high fever started appearing abroad. Within three days, a normal person would turn into a zombie, a creature that only craves flesh and blood.
But some people, after experiencing the fever, developed extraordinary abilities.”
Meng Jiangtian extended his hand, and a miniature tornado swirled rapidly in his palm.
Cui Xisheng stared in shock, momentarily forgetting his nausea.
Curious, he reached out, wanting to feel whether the tiny tornado was real.
Meng Jiangtian clenched his fist, instantly dispersing the vortex. “Don’t touch it. Even though it’s small, its power is no less than a real tornado. It can easily slice off a zombie’s head.”
He signaled towards the headless corpse behind Cui Xisheng, who gulped nervously but refused to turn around to look.
“So, what exactly is wrong with you? If it’s serious, I’ll clear out the hospital, and we’ll stay here for treatment.”
“Are there a lot of zombies in the hospital now? Director Hao Ren has been treating me—I still hope he can continue my treatment.”
“The hospital is already in chaos. The doctors and nurses who could escape have fled. Director Hao is either gone or has turned into a zombie. You can't count on him anymore.
The only ones left in the hospital now are zombies.
And it’s not just the hospital—things outside have also collapsed. The outbreak is out of control, and the government can no longer contain it. More than half of the people at the school have turned into zombies.
But four ability users have also emerged. They are currently rescuing those who haven’t turned and don’t have powers. The survivors are all hiding on the rooftop of the girls’ dormitory.
Right now, these zombies are slow and act purely on instinct, so they’re easy to evade. But we don’t know if any zombies will awaken abilities. If that happens, things will get much worse.”
“So, your ability lets you control tornadoes?”
“That’s right. My wind powers don’t just kill zombies—I can also fly. I can take you somewhere safe.”
“You came here specifically to get me?”
“What else?”
“Why?” Cui Xisheng looked at Meng Jiangtian anxiously, waiting for his answer.
