In March, Yu Zhengdu reported to a small startup in the Floating City Development Zone Technology Park.

"Welcome to Luofeng Life Management Consulting Co., Ltd.," said the tall and beautiful HR manager, Lu Lingxi, with a smile. She clapped her hands and seemed to let out a huge sigh of relief. "We've been looking for a tech developer for a long time, and finally, we've found someone."

Yu Zhengdu paused and asked, "Is this position really that hard to fill?"

It was just a regular developer position. The company seemed a bit unreliable, but it shouldn’t be impossible to find a tech developer, right?

"Mainly, our boss has very high standards," Lu Lingxi said, pouting. "We’ve interviewed a few suitable candidates before, but they all had a bit of a receding hairline."

Yu Zhengdu: "..."

Well, that was quite a high requirement. These days, finding a developer who’s both skilled and not balding is not an easy task.

However, he never expected that the reason he was chosen was because of his thick hair.

He instinctively touched his voluminous, fluffy hair, deepening his doubts about the company’s professionalism.

Yu Zhengdu was in his senior year of university. He had already received an offer from a well-known tech giant, Xinxing Technology, and planned to start his internship after the New Year and transition to a full-time position after graduation. But after the New Year, an unexpected event occurred, and his offer was canceled.

He wasn’t too worried about it. In fact, besides Xinxing Technology, several other reputable companies had also extended job offers, but he didn’t accept them. Instead, he searched through job listings and ended up applying to this inconspicuous small company.

Luofeng Life Management Consulting, the company’s name, had a very high-end business description on the job site. It claimed to specialize in life planning management, though Yu Zhengdu didn’t quite understand what exactly they were planning for people. From what he could see, the office space didn’t seem to exceed twenty people, and the environment was fairly basic. The financial situation seemed far from as grand as the company’s description.

Yu Zhengdu remained calm and asked, "By the way, where’s my labor contract?"

Lu Lingxi paused for a moment before answering, "Don’t you want to wait until you're adjusted to the environment before signing it?"

Yu Zhengdu silently looked at her and slowly replied, "If I don’t sign a contract, will the company still pay for my social insurance?"

Lu Lingxi slapped her forehead. "I almost forgot, you do need social insurance."

Yu Zhengdu: "..."

Is this the usual operation of a shady company?

Anyway, he still managed to sign the labor contract, and Lu Lingxi sincerely promised that they would indeed pay for his social insurance.

After completing the onboarding procedures, Lu Lingxi showed him around the departments, introduced him to the new colleagues. Yu Zhengdu counted them, and including him, there were only fifteen people in the entire company, which matched the size of the office space perfectly and didn’t surprise him at all.

Not only that, but he was also the only employee in the tech department.

Yu Zhengdu was shocked. "What? I’m the only one in the tech department?"

Lu Lingxi shrugged and said shyly, "Well, we can only afford one living person for now."

Yu Zhengdu, stunned by the fact that he was the only developer, didn’t immediately notice the phrasing "living person."

Just then, the door to a nearby private office suddenly opened, and a man walked out, asking, "Lingxi, has the new tech employee come in?"

Lu Lingxi replied, "He has, I’m about to introduce him to you."

She turned to Yu Zhengdu and introduced, "Xiao Yu, this is our boss, Shang Que."

Yu Zhengdu looked up, and immediately, he was taken aback.

It was a very handsome young man, with facial features so beautiful they almost transcended gender. Even in an era where one could easily find all kinds of beauties online, his appearance was still striking enough to make anyone who saw him stop in their tracks.

Yu Zhengdu instinctively said, "Hello, boss."

"Mm, hello." Shang Que nodded while taking a quick look at Yu Zhengdu’s hairline. Satisfied, he said, "Not bad, you have a lot of hair."

Yu Zhengdu complimented, "Boss, you have quite a bit of hair too."

Shang Que: "…"

Lu Lingxi: "…"

Shang Que was momentarily stunned before waving him over. "Come to my office for a chat."

Lu Lingxi gave Yu Zhengdu a push. "Go on, our tech team is a bit simple, so the boss wants to personally oversee things."

Yu Zhengdu gave her a sideways glance, thinking: You guys shouldn’t be using the word ‘simple’—your tech team doesn’t even exist!

Lu Lingxi, oblivious to his disdain, simply turned and walked away.

Yu Zhengdu followed Shang Que into the office. The boss’s office wasn’t very large, and its furnishings were quite simple. The only notable feature was a large bookshelf on the left wall. However, instead of books, the shelves were filled with bottles of all shapes and sizes.

Yu Zhengdu glanced at them. There were liquor bottles, condiment bottles, milk bottles… even empty medicine bottles. It was a completely random collection that didn’t match the aesthetic one would expect from such an elegant-looking boss. He had no idea what Shang Que was collecting them for.

"Hmm…" Shang Que looked at Yu Zhengdu thoughtfully, then adjusted his computer screen to face him. "Why don’t you start by fixing my computer?"

Yu Zhengdu: "…"

With a blank expression, he said, "Boss, software developers don’t actually fix computers."

Shang Que looked genuinely puzzled. "They don’t?"

"Not at all," Yu Zhengdu replied without hesitation.

"What a pity," Shang Que sighed, his beautiful eyes blinking with regret. He grumbled, "For some reason, my computer is always extremely slow. I think the store that sold it to me scammed me."

Yu Zhengdu followed his gesture and took a look at the screen. Then, he froze: "…"

The computer was running several online games simultaneously, completely freezing the system.

Yu Zhengdu remained motionless for a full minute before silently pressing the restart button.

Shang Que: "…"

Shang Que pretended as if nothing had happened, elegantly leaning back in his chair, clasping his hands together. "Alright, let’s talk about your upcoming work."

Yu Zhengdu pulled up a chair and sat down. "Go ahead, boss."

Shang Que looked at him and said, "It’s like this—over the past two years, our company’s workload has increased significantly. Our employees frequently make mistakes in their work. I want you to develop a more advanced office system to improve their efficiency and reduce errors."

Yu Zhengdu stared at Shang Que’s strikingly handsome face and asked slowly, "You want me to develop this alone?"

"Yes." Shang Que nodded and, without any pretense, stated plainly, "We only have enough money to hire one person."

Yu Zhengdu immediately felt the urge to quit on the spot. He clutched his chest and asked, "Then what’s the budget for development?"

Shang Que looked confused. "Budget? Isn’t a computer enough to develop it?"

Yu Zhengdu: "…"

Great, an outsider trying to direct a specialist.

Yu Zhengdu: Resignation thoughts intensifying.

He rubbed his forehead and said seriously, "Sorry, boss, but I can’t do that."

"Is it really that hard?" Shang Que stared at him intently. His deep, black pupils reflected nothing, yet it was difficult to look away.

Yu Zhengdu had been on the verge of quitting immediately, but after being stared at like that, he felt a little soft-hearted. Sighing, he patiently explained the software development process.

After carefully listening, Shang Que’s expression turned serious. "I didn’t realize developing a system required so much money."

Yu Zhengdu nodded, feeling a bit relieved—at least Shang Que wasn’t the type of boss who stubbornly ignored reality.

Shang Que tapped his finger lightly on the desk, his face showing mild frustration. "This is troublesome. Our company doesn’t have much cash—we can barely cover rent and utilities. Even hiring you was a struggle."

Yu Zhengdu: "…"

The boss’s brutal honesty made him seriously worry about whether he’d actually get paid.

After leaving Shang Que’s office, Yu Zhengdu returned to his desk and started drafting a resignation letter.

Although he had deliberately chosen a small company to work at, this one’s financial situation was way too unstable. He was seriously concerned that he’d soon have to fight for unpaid wages.

As he hesitated, the office phone in the consulting department suddenly rang.

The ringtone was crisp and loud, yet no one picked up.

Yu Zhengdu looked up and realized that at some point, all his colleagues had vanished.

Yu Zhengdu: "…???"

He checked the time and saw that it was already the lunch break. Helpless, he got up and answered the call. "Hello?"

An elderly man’s voice came from the other end. "Hello, is this Luofeng Life Management Consulting Company?"

Yu Zhengdu: "Yes, how can I help you?"

The man sounded anxious. "Comrade, my name is Chen Kang. This morning, I received a text message from your company notifying me that I’m scheduled for reincarnation tomorrow. But the message says I’ll be reborn as a pig! There must be a mistake. How could I be reincarnated as a pig?!"

Yu Zhengdu: "?????"
