When Luo Fei arrived at Han Xu’s place with his sewing kit, Han Xu’s mother and sister-in-law happened to be there as well. Seeing Luo Fei, Han Liu-shi smiled and asked, “Erbao, what brings you here so early today?”

There was no malice in her question, so Luo Fei smiled and replied, “Just came to chat with Han Xu. Auntie, sister-in-law, are you heading somewhere?”

Seeing that both of them were carrying baskets, it seemed like they were heading out.

“Well, there’s nothing much to do in the fields today, so my mother and I thought we’d come over to see Han Xu and then go pick some mushrooms. It’s been raining for a while, hasn’t it? There should be plenty of mushrooms in the mountains this year,” Mu Ling said with a smile. “Luo Fei, are you coming? If you are, let’s go together.”

“Sister-in-law, don’t ask him to go! He still has to keep me company,” Han Xu said. “My carpenter brother(what he call to his husband) won’t let me do this or that—I’m going to be bored to death!”

“Peh, peh, peh! What kind of nonsense are you talking about?” Han Liu-shi flicked her son’s forehead. “Watch your words!”

“What’s there to watch? You know I always talk like this,” Han Xu replied. “Er Bao, are you coming or not? If you don’t, I’ll make you something delicious for lunch.”

“No, I actually want to go,” Luo Fei chuckled. “Your carpenter brother is home today, so I won’t be a third wh—uh, I mean, I won’t be interrupting your alone time.” Chen Huazhang often had to go out to find suitable wood for his carpentry work, so he wasn’t always at home. That meant Luo Fei couldn’t be a third wheel.

“Tsk, who wants to be alone with him? He keeps bossing me around!” Han Xu grumbled, but there was a shy smile on his face, making it obvious that he actually enjoyed being taken care of.

“That’s because he worries about you. Alright, I won’t tease you anymore,” Luo Fei said before turning to Han Liu-shi. “Auntie, is the mountain path easy to walk? And I didn’t bring anything with me.”

“The past few days have been sunny, so it should be fine. Besides, we’re not going to any steep slopes, so there’s nothing to be afraid of,” Han Liu-shi said, adjusting the basket on her arm. “We’ll just gather some mushrooms to add to our meal tonight.”

“Well… alright then, I’ll go with you,” Luo Fei agreed. At first, he had some concerns about the dangers of the mountain, but then he remembered Xi Yanqing had once mentioned how delicious mushroom-stuffed buns were.

Xi Yanqing’s appetite had gradually recovered over the past few days, but he had been seriously ill for quite some time. Seeing that made Luo Fei feel distressed. He wanted Xi Yanqing to get more nutrition. Modern people always said wild vegetables could boost immunity, right? So he figured he would go and gather some for him. At worst, he could just follow Han Liu-shi closely.

Since Han Xu’s house had baskets readily available, Luo Fei didn’t bother going back to get his own. He simply followed Han Liu-shi and Mu Ling up the mountain.

On the way, Luo Fei was still feeling a bit hesitant, but in the end, his desire to surprise Xi Yanqing overcame his doubts. Halfway through the journey, he ran into Luo Ru and his mother, which put him completely at ease. With his mother and younger sister there, what was there to worry about?

“Mom, you’re going mushroom-picking too? Why didn’t you come find me?” Luo Fei asked with a smile. “The mushroom stew Sanbao made last time was delicious.”

“Well, we figured you had to take care of Brother Xi,” Luo Ru replied. “So we didn’t look for you.”

“He’s almost fully recovered now. As long as he doesn’t do any heavy work, he’s fine.” Luo Fei thought to himself, Xi Yanqing’s heart was already flying free—how could he not be fine? Right now, he was probably daydreaming about doing this and that to me!

“Then let’s pick more this time,” Li Yuehua said, patting the cloth bag inside her basket.

What Luo Fei didn’t know was that ever since Luo Ji’s wife had an accident and died in the mountains, the Luo family had developed an unconscious dislike for going into the mountains. Xi Yanqing’s recent near-miss only reinforced their reluctance. However, with the family struggling financially, they had to think practically.

Whenever the autumn or spring imperial exams approached, Luo Yi would become anxious. He wanted to study, but his family’s situation didn’t allow him to bring it up, so he only occasionally mentioned it to his sister.

Although Luo Ru was a carefree person, she cared deeply about her family. Seeing her younger brother’s yearning but hesitant expression, she couldn’t help but feel upset. Their family could get by comfortably as long as they worked hard on their land and the weather was good. But paying for Luo Yi’s education was another matter—it required a lot of money. The land alone wasn’t enough. Unlike her second brother, she wasn’t skilled at needlework. Also, their eldest brother couldn’t remain single forever; he would have to marry again someday, which meant they needed to save up for that as well.

In short, when they weren’t thinking about it, life seemed fine. But the moment they did, it became clear that they had to make money however they could.

Thankfully, dried mushrooms were always in demand. They could be sold at the morning market or to spice traders.

Among them, Luo Fei was probably the only one with a simple goal—he just wanted to make some fresh mushroom-filled buns for Xi Yanqing.

The journey was filled with laughter and conversation, making the walk less tiresome. After about half an hour, the group of five arrived at the mountain.

This was the first time Luo Fei had entered the mountains since transmigrating. To be honest, he found it quite refreshing. Without relying on the original body’s memories, he had never gathered wild produce before. If he could bring back a full bag of mushrooms, Xi Yanqing would definitely be happy, right?

“Sanbao, can I follow you for a bit?” Luo Fei whispered. “Just in case I get lost.” The trees in the mountains were tall, making it impossible to see the way back just by standing inside. Getting lost was a real possibility.

“How would you get lost? Just break a twig here and there as you walk, and you’ll have a path to follow back,” Luo Ru said. “Or better yet, use a stick to make small holes in the ground as you go.”

“Oh yeah! Sanbao, you’re so smart!” Luo Fei wondered why he hadn’t thought of that. He quickly picked up a sharp-ended wooden stick and started poking small holes in the ground, about a centimeter in diameter, marking his path as he walked.

“Alright, I’m off then! If you get scared alone, just call me,” Luo Ru said. “I’ll answer if I hear you.”

“Mm.” Luo Fei nodded. “So once we’ve gathered enough, we meet back here, right?” They had started from an open space in the forest.

“Yep! As long as we return before it’s time to cook, we’ll be fine. That’s how we do it every year.”

“Wait, Sanbao! Hold on!” Luo Fei quickly stopped Luo Ru. “This won’t work—I need to follow you for a while first. I don’t even know which mushrooms are safe to eat.”

“Ah, right! You’ve never foraged for mushrooms before. Okay, follow me for now.”

So, Luo Fei trailed behind Luo Ru, watching carefully. Whenever she found an edible mushroom, she picked it and explained its characteristics to him.

“There are usually three kinds of mushrooms we can collect here. These grow under pine trees, and the underside of the cap is golden yellow—that’s called pine mushrooms. Then there’s this one, the red pine mushroom. And this one here—this is the kind we used last time for mushroom stew.”

Luo Fei took a few samples of each to compare later. “Wow, there are more over there!”

“Of course! Keep looking, there should be plenty after all that rain.” Luo Ru said, “I’m heading over there to gather some elm mushrooms.”

“Okay, I’ll go on my own now,” Luo Fei said. He had his marked path, so he wasn’t worried about getting lost.

“If anything happens, just shout for me!” Luo Ru called out before disappearing into the trees.

Luo Fei figured that if he still got lost after all this, it would have to be either a sign of low intelligence—or something supernatural.

It's broad daylight, so a supernatural event is unlikely. What he needs to do now is quickly pick more mushrooms and go home to make mushroom-filled dumplings for Xi Yanqing.

“Whoa, why does this one look so... evil?” Luo Fei squatted down in front of a pine tree, looking at a mushroom that oddly resembled a certain body part. He chuckled mischievously. “I can't let the big tiger eat this one. What if he becomes even more evil after eating it? Tsk tsk, I guess I'll eat it myself. If I don’t go to hell, who will?”

“Luo Fei, what are you laughing at over there by yourself?” Mu Ling walked over. “Hey, you've picked quite a lot.”

“Yeah, Sister-in-law, you’ve got plenty too.” Luo Fei noticed that Mu Ling’s basket was already more than half full, and she was about to start filling a cloth bag.

“Not bad. This year's mushrooms are growing well. Take your time picking; I’ll check out another area.” Mu Ling continued walking, stopping occasionally to pluck some greens.

“Sister-in-law, what are you picking?” Luo Fei found them familiar.

Fiddlehead ferns. You can blanch them in boiling water and then either make a cold salad or stir-fry them. If we can’t finish them, we can dry them for winter.”

“Oh, then I’ll pick some too. I saw some earlier.” Luo Fei grabbed his wooden stick and walked in the opposite direction from Mu Ling. Sure enough, as she said, the forest was full of mushrooms. No wonder Xi Yanqing never came back empty-handed whenever he went into the mountains—there was plenty to eat here.

But why had Xi Yanqing never brought back fiddlehead ferns?

Luo Fei wondered if he simply hadn’t come across them or if they weren’t in season when he went foraging.

Oh well, it didn’t matter. Whatever he brought back, Xi Yanqing would know what was edible. After all, he had way more knowledge about these things.

Luo Fei bent down, using a stick in his right hand while carrying a basket in his left. He looked like an old lady, walking slowly while scanning the ground. Whenever he spotted mushrooms or fiddlehead ferns, he squatted down to pick them before moving on to the next spot. He realized that mushrooms often grew in clusters, so when he found one, there were usually several more nearby. Picking them was actually quite fun.

At noon, when Xi Yanqing realized Luo Fei hadn’t returned, he figured the kid had probably gone to Han Xu’s house for lunch. Since there was food at home, he didn’t bother going over to look for him. Instead, he grabbed a few steamed buns from the pot and some dipping vegetables. After eating, he took out some candles leftover from their wedding.

He had originally intended to pair them up, but he found that only one and a half were left. After thinking for a moment, he pulled out some paper and a brush and wrote something on it.

Not long after, he took the note and placed it inside a small wooden bucket by the door before locking up and heading out with a heavy-looking backpack.

In the afternoon, the sky became cloudier, though there was no sign of rain. The weather just got cooler. Luo Fei felt the increasing chill in the forest but still wasn’t ready to stop picking mushrooms.

Damn, there were so many mushrooms! He regretted not bringing ten or eight sacks!

At first, he was only picking matsutake mushrooms, the kind with golden-yellow undersides. He usually found two or three together, sometimes four. But then he stumbled upon a massive patch of honey mushrooms—half a square meter of them!

“Holy crap, so many!” Luo Fei was thrilled. This patch alone could probably fill half his basket!

Excited, he rushed over, tossing aside his wooden stick and using both hands to pick.

But just as he was finishing up, he spotted another patch not far away.

Oh my god...

After filling his basket, he hurried over to the next patch. When that was full too, he took out his sewing kit and stitched together a makeshift bag on the spot! He hadn’t dared tell Luo Ru that he brought the sewing kit along just so he could unravel thread while walking, ensuring he wouldn't get lost. But once he entered the forest, he worried the thin thread might break if a bird or small animal passed through, so he asked Luo Ru if they could walk together.

Looking back, it was a good thing they didn’t. If they had, they would have had to share the mushrooms, and he definitely wouldn’t have gathered as many!

Luo Fei was so excited that sweat beaded on his nose. He couldn’t stop picturing Xi Yanqing enjoying the mushroom dumplings! Or the chicken and mushroom stew—last time, Xi Yanqing had missed out on it because Luo Fei had eaten it all before he recovered. Since there were no refrigerators here, they only cooked enough food for one meal to prevent spoilage.

Now that he thought about it, the chickens at home had grown quite a bit. It would be a shame to butcher one now, but young chicken meat was tender. A fresh chicken and mushroom stew for Xi Yanqing sounded perfect. Or maybe a soup?

Luo Fei’s mouth started watering. Was he thinking about cooking for Xi Yanqing, or for himself? Either way, he spent the entire afternoon gathering mushrooms, moving from one patch to another without a break.

Eventually, his cloth bag was full, and he had no more room. Only then did he remember to head back.

But then he froze.

Where was his wooden stick?!

Ahhh! No way! Where did his stick go?! When did he even drop it?!

He panicked. With one load on his back and another in his hand, he looked around anxiously. “Sanbao! Mom! Are you there?! Can you hear me?!”

Meanwhile, Luo Ru and Li Yuehua were also worried. It was almost time to go home and cook—why hadn’t he come out yet?!

Luo Fei had completely lost track of time. He had been possessed by a mushroom-hunting spirit, with eyes only for fungi.

Oh, and the big tiger that wanted to eat him.

“Mom! Sanbao, are you there?!” Luo Fei vaguely remembered coming from the back right, so he started retracing his steps. “Mom?! Sanbao! Sister-in-law Mu Ling! Aunt Han! Where are you?!”

“Can you hear me?! Mom?! Sanbao?!” Cold sweat dripped from his forehead. “Mom! Sanbao! Someone answer me!”

“This won’t do. Sister-in-law, Mu Ling, you two go back first. I’ll stay with Sanbao and keep looking.” Li Yuehua was worried. Her second son wasn’t experienced in the mountains—what if he got lost even with the wooden stick?

“Let’s all search together and meet back here later,” Han Liu suggested. Since she and Mu Ling had encouraged Luo Fei to come, she would feel guilty if he got lost. Besides, more people meant better chances of finding him.

So the group re-entered the forest.

Luo Fei wanted to find his wooden stick, but it was nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile, he started hearing strange noises in the woods, making him even more anxious to get out.

He quickened his pace. “Mom! Sanbao!”

He shouted while running forward, convinced this was the right way out. But unbeknownst to him, he was actually heading in the same direction as Luo Ru and the others, meaning he was getting farther away instead of closer. And because he was running faster than them, the gap widened.

Everyone has had this experience: the more you want time to slow down, the faster it flies by; the more you wish it to speed up, the slower it drags. Luo Fei desperately wanted time to slow down so he could get out before dark, but the sky darkened alarmingly fast!

What now?!

With no watch, he couldn’t tell the time, but when he last saw the sun, he had thought it was barely one or two in the afternoon—three at most!

His panic grew, and so did the worry of Li Yuehua and the others. When the four women regrouped without finding him, they became truly anxious.

Li Yuehua quickly ordered Luo Ru, “Sanbao, run home and get your father and brother. Tell them to come help search.”

“Got it, Mom!” Luo Ru rushed off.

That second brother of hers—how had he gotten lost?! Had he really abandoned the wooden stick halfway?!

Luo Ru rushed down the mountain as if she had wind and fire wheels attached to her feet. She didn't even dare to pick mushrooms for fear of delaying her speed. She ran all the way home and gasped, "Dad! Second Brother, Second Brother is missing!"

"Missing?!" Xi Yanqing had gone out, and when he got home, he found that Luo Fei still hadn't returned. He thought Luo Fei had gone back to his maternal home, so he came to the Luo family to find him. Since it was so late, it was unlikely that Luo Fei would still be staying with Han Xu. Who would have thought he'd hear such a thing? His heart immediately tightened. "What do you mean he's missing? How could he be missing?"

"In the mountains." Luo Ru was also panicked. "Today, Mom and I planned to go into the mountains to pick mushrooms. On the way, we saw Second Brother. He and Aunt Han were also going, so we all went up the mountain together. We agreed to return home before dinner, but after going into the mountains, Second Brother never came out."

"Dabao, go get some torches! Sibao, go find your Uncle Han for help. We're going up the mountain." Upon hearing that his son was missing, Luo Tian frowned deeply. "Yanqing, your injury just healed. You'd better not go."

"I'm fine. I'd be more worried staying at home." Xi Yanqing was more anxious than anyone. He helped Luo Ji prepare the torches, and then they all headed up the mountain together.

The sky was about to turn completely dark. How scared must Luo Fei be, alone in the mountains? Just thinking about it made Xi Yanqing's heart clench. At the same time, he couldn't help but curse that little donkey in his mind—why did he go into the mountains?! Was he deliberately trying to make people worry?!

At this moment, Luo Fei was also regretting it deeply. If he had known this would happen, he wouldn't have gone mushroom picking. The sky was about to go dark, and he had no water, no food, and no light. What should he do?!

He had shouted until his throat was hoarse, but no one responded.

Could it be that they had all gone home? But he hadn't come out, nor had he returned home. Even if they had gone back, once they realized he wasn't home, they would definitely come looking for him. The Luo family and the Han family were not the type to ignore him.

Someone would definitely come for him.

Holding onto that belief, Luo Fei continued to shout, "Mom! Sanbao! Is anyone there?!"

Usually, no one responded to him. But this time, there was a reply.

"Awooo~~!!!!~~"

Hearing the noise, Luo Fei's hair instantly stood on end!

Holy crap, crap, crap, crap! A w-w-w-wolf?!

Luo Fei froze on the spot, not daring to move. After a while, he realized that wouldn't do, so he quickly searched for a tree to climb!

He abandoned the basket of mushrooms without hesitation, carrying only his drawstring bag. Climbing up a tree, his heart pounded in his throat. He found a branch, carefully sat on it while he could still see a little, and hugged the trunk tightly.

He tried to let his eyes adjust to the darkness and observe his surroundings, but gradually, he couldn't see anything at all.

He could feel sweat dripping from his forehead, blurring his vision, and at the same time, an unprecedented fear creeping over him.

When Luo Tian and the others reached the mountain, Li Yuehua and Han Liushi were still waiting at the designated spot. Seeing her husband arrive, Li Yuehua hurriedly wiped her sweat and explained the situation. "We've searched all around here and still haven't found Erbao. He must have gone further in. What should we do?"

Xi Yanqing asked at this moment, "Luo Ru, do you remember where you last saw your Second Brother?"

"I remember roughly where."

Luo Ru led Xi Yanqing and Luo Ji to the place where she and Luo Fei had separated. "It was here. Second Brother went that way, and I went this way."

Xi Yanqing saw the marks Luo Fei had left. That little donkey probably feared he wouldn't find his way back, so he had left deep marks.

Luo Tian said, "We'll keep looking. You two should head back. It's not safe in the mountains this late."

Li Yuehua was reluctant to leave, but the darkness made it clear that she and Luo Ru would only be a burden. Gritting her teeth and choking back her tears, she said, "you must bring Erbao back."

Luo Tian squeezed his wife's shoulder and headed deeper into the forest.

Xi Yanqing followed the trail of markings and finally found where Luo Fei had dropped his wooden stick. Seeing the trampled mushroom stalks, he knew at a glance that the kid must have been too excited about picking mushrooms and completely forgotten about his stick!

Fortunately, Luo Fei had the habit of picking mushrooms cleanly, leaving the roots behind. This inadvertently left a trail for Xi Yanqing.

Xi Yanqing lowered his torch slightly, holding onto the wooden stick Luo Fei had used, and continued heading south. He noticed that Luo Fei had been picking mostly honey mushrooms in this area, whereas before, they had been in a mixed needle-and-broadleaf forest. Here, it was mostly broadleaf trees, with few pine mushrooms but plenty of honey mushrooms.

Luo Tian said, "Let's split up. I'll check over there. Dabao, you go with Yanqing."

Xi Yanqing replied, "No need to stay together. We'll find him faster if we split up."

There were only a few of them, but the mountain was vast. If they stuck together, how long would it take to find Luo Fei?

Seeing that Xi Yanqing was holding up well, Luo Tian didn't say more and left with his torch.

Xi Yanqing, however, didn't rush ahead like the others. He stood in the broadleaf forest, thought for a moment, then headed straight forward. The mountain was shaped like a narrow isosceles triangle, and their entry point was at the smallest corner. Since Luo Ru and the others hadn't found anything there, Luo Fei had most likely gone deeper. As he walked, he called out, "Luo Fei! Luo Fei, where are you?!"

Luo Fei hadn't heard anyone calling yet.

At this moment, he was still hugging the tree trunk tightly.

The wolves hadn't come near, but he didn't dare go down either. He remained perched there, too scared to sleep despite his exhaustion. He kept his eyes wide open, debating whether to call out—afraid that shouting would attract the wolves, but also scared that if he stayed quiet, people searching for him might not hear.

His anxiety made him break into a sweat, which he didn’t even dare to wipe. His butt had long gone numb, and his hands were scraped from climbing the tree. But compared to the darkness and the occasional eerie animal cries, those were nothing.

He tried to tell himself not to be afraid, but how could he not be?

A suffocating fear crept into his bones.

At some point, the moon had risen to the center of the sky and then started descending again. Luo Fei's eyelids grew heavy. He pinched himself hard. "Don't sleep, Luo Fei! If you fall asleep, you'll end up in a wolf's belly!"

But he was so tired!

His nose stung with emotion. He gritted his teeth and carefully adjusted his position on the branch. Just then, he suddenly felt an itch on his arm, as if something was crawling on him. Holding his breath, he shakily brought his hand closer for a look.

The moment he saw it, he couldn't hold back—

"Ahhhhhh!!!! A caterpillar!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!!"

His scream startled a whole flock of birds! Luo Fei, terrified out of his wits, flailed his arm and shouted, "Ahhhh! Qing-ge, save me!!! Qing-ge!!!"

Xi Yanqing jolted alert and called back even louder, "Luo Fei! Wife! Where are you?!"

Luo Fei’s screams abruptly cut off. Then, after a moment: "Qing-ge! I'm here! I'm on a big tree!"

Xi Yanqing quickly determined the direction and ran toward him with the torch.

Luo Fei, hearing no response for a moment, panicked and thought he had imagined it. "Qing-ge, did you hear me?!"

Xi Yanqing knew he was scared, so he shouted back while rushing forward, "I heard you! Don't be afraid! I'm coming to find you!"

Luo Fei burst into tears but still croaked out, "S-slow down! There are wolves!"

Before long, Luo Fei saw the faint glow of firelight.

Xi Yanqing, having pinpointed the location, rushed straight to the tree where Luo Fei was. When he arrived, he saw Luo Fei clutching the tree trunk like a koala, peering down at him. Seeing Xi Yanqing, he finally started climbing down.

"Qing-ge!" Luo Fei threw his arms around Xi Yanqing.

"It's okay, it's okay, don't be afraid." Xi Yanqing gently stroked Luo Fei’s back. "I'm here now don’t be scared."

"Mm." Luo Fei buried his head in Xi Yanqing's embrace, holding him tighter than ever, almost suffocating him.

Xi Yanqing could feel the pain from his wounds being squeezed, but he didn't say anything. He just hugged Luo Fei back even more firmly. "Let’s see if you still dare to sneak up the mountain again."

Luo Fei shook his head vigorously. "Never, never again."

Xi Yanqing noticed that Luo Fei’s body was cold, and his voice was off—clearly, he had been frightened. He quickly pulled him in closer. "Let's go home first, we can talk later."

Luo Fei clung tightly to Xi Yanqing’s arm and didn’t let go for a single second on the way back.

When the two of them emerged from the forest, Luo Ji and the Han father and son had already come out. Luo Tian hadn’t shown up yet, but Luo Ji said, "Let’s wait a bit. Dad wasn’t too far from me earlier, so he should have heard Erbao calling. He’ll probably be out soon."

Sure enough, about fifteen minutes later, Luo Tian also came out, and by then, the sky was already beginning to brighten.

Luo Tian was furious and poked Luo Fei’s forehead. "You little rascal! You’re always the one causing trouble!"

Xi Yanqing silently rubbed the spot Luo Fei had been poked and carefully shielded him in his embrace. "Get some rest when we get home. No more climbing mountains from now on."

Luo Fei nodded. Even after they got home, he still clung tightly to Xi Yanqing.

Xi Yanqing helped him take off his dirty clothes. Normally, Luo Fei would have jumped up and accused him of being a pervert. But this time, he just grabbed onto Xi Yanqing’s clothes and wouldn’t let go.

He lowered his head slightly, looking like a child who had done something wrong. The only sign of his embarrassment was his reddened ears.

Seeing this, Xi Yanqing simply went ahead and untied Luo Fei’s belt as well. His movements gradually slowed down, his hands seemingly enchanted as they traced over Luo Fei’s smooth skin…

It was an intoxicating experience. Luo Fei was like an unguarded little flower, exuding a delicate fragrance that lured him in.

Luo Fei bit his lip lightly, his breathing growing heavier. At that moment, Xi Yanqing scooped him up and laid him down on the bedding where he usually rested during the day…

Xi Yanqing had thought he would be exhausted after searching for someone all night. But in that moment, he felt like he had endless energy. Especially when he saw Luo Fei tilting his head back slightly, actively responding to him—it felt like nothing could stop him.

Luo Fei lifted his head a little and gently bit Xi Yanqing’s slightly stubbled chin before crawling over to the bedside cabinet and pulling out a small porcelain bottle that had been hidden away for a long time.

His slender, pale waist and round, perky bottom instantly filled Xi Yanqing’s view. Xi Yanqing couldn't resist and hugged Luo Fei from behind.

And so, their long-overdue honeymoon began, quietly unfolding with the rising sun…
