Once everyone had left, Joey sneaked a glance at Garius, sat down beside him, and after thinking for a moment, asked, “Harry… is he in the palace?”

The mention of that particular name instantly chilled Garius’s usually warm demeanor. He hummed in response, quickly guessing how Joey had found out. “Did Amon want you to persuade me?”

“No.”

Joey scratched his head.

“Amon seemed pretty calm. He even told me not to worry.”

Honestly, inspecting District 13 might not make one the greatest hero of the empire, but it wasn’t far from it.

From start to finish, this whole mess was stirred up by the royal family. Garius led the people of District 13 into dangerous territory to rescue the Emperor and restore order, only to nearly have his entire family destroyed by the Third Prince, Harry, upon his return.

The facts were clear for all to see.

Yet, despite knowing all of this, the Emperor disregarded the truth and Garius’s contributions, sheltering his son in the palace and refusing to speak on the matter.

Even when Garius repeatedly demanded justice, the Emperor scolded the Heine family for being disloyal and used his power to pressure the empire, slapping them with a huge accusation!

Even someone as mild-mannered as Joey—who usually preferred to avoid trouble—was so furious after hearing all this that he almost wished Garius would just rebel already!

Screw the Emperor!

Screw the Empire!

Do you even have eyes, or are they just decorative light bulbs? Do you not know what kind of person your son is? Look at all your sons—how many of them actually came to save you when you were in danger?

Being an emperor isn’t about intelligence? It’s really just about inheritance, huh?

Your son openly stormed into a high-ranking official’s house to commit murder in broad daylight, yet instead of disciplining him, you scolded the official? You’re not just unreasonable—you’re downright ridiculous!

This level of stupidity would shock the empire for thirty years. Even Crown Prince Joseph thought his father’s brain must have been filled with crap.

As tensions between District 13 and the imperial court escalated, Joseph got so furious that he had a huge argument with the Emperor and stormed off. Apparently, he had already left Ottoman Star two days ago.

In situations like this, one must not be reckless—but enduring it silently isn’t an option either.

Besides, in Joey’s heart, someone like Garius should never have to suffer such humiliation from the empire. Garius deserved flowers and medals!

“I didn’t even know so much had happened out there.” You’ve endured so much.

Joey leaned against Garius’s arm, playing with the fringe of the blanket. “I don’t really understand grand principles, but I do know one thing—there’s a man who’s both rational and intelligent. Any choice he makes must be the right one, and I trust his judgment.”

Garius looked down at him in confusion, as if asking who that man was.

Joey extended a finger, drew a large circle in the air, then finally poked Garius’s chest.

After a brief moment of surprise, Lord Heine chuckled, his cool hand gently wrapping around Joey’s finger, holding it carefully in his palm.

“That man is you, of course. No matter what you do, I believe it’s the best choice.”

Because the one making the choice is Garius Heine.

Joey would always, unconditionally, trust his family.

“I might choose some rather extreme methods.”

“Mm-hmm.” Joey nodded like a pecking chick. A little extremity is good—you’ve been too gentle before.

“My approach may be different from past Heine family leaders.”

“Different is different. Hubby, trust me, you’re absolutely a one-of-a-kind firework.” Normally dazzling, but when provoked, you turn into a surface-to-air missile.

“If my conflict with the royal family leads to negative consequences, would I still be your hero?”

“Yes, yes, of course! I just think you guys have spoiled the Emperor too much—he’s practically an unreasonable brat who doesn’t understand a thing about imperial balance. Go on, teach him a lesson! Beat him up!”

Joey excitedly threw two air punches, as if every strike was landing on the face of the despicable man who bullied his beloved.

“Hmm… then what do you think about the worst-case scenario?” Garius, always so serious, suddenly found his adorable partner irresistible and felt a playful urge to tease him.

Joey hesitated. “…Uh, what… worst-case scenario?”

Garius stated calmly, “I kill them all and become Emperor myself.”

Joey: “………………”

W-what the hell???

His big, round eyes widened in shock as he stared at Garius’s flawless face, his jaw practically hitting the floor.

Holy crap, that’s the worst-case scenario?!

Holy crap, what do you mean worst-case scenario?!

I thought you’d just have a little outburst to prove you’re not to be messed with, and that would be it—But you’re actually planning to take their lives and their throne???

"Gulp—"

Joey swallowed hard, his voice dry.

“T-this… isn’t good, right?”

Garius tilted his head. “Why not? If I become Emperor, you’ll be the Empress.”

“……”

Joey thought, How is this good in any way?!
This is outright rebellion, man! Are we seriously about to establish a new empire?
Does the damn author even have a script this grand, this long?

I don’t believe it.

“Being Emperor… it’s too risky, and there’s really no need. Besides, it’s a hassle. Joseph is actually a good choice—why not let him take over? And anyway, royal bloodlines have always been full of weirdos. What if we end up with another psycho like the Third Prince… Ugh, gross.”

Just the thought made Joey’s skin crawl with goosebumps.

There’s no way I’m giving birth to a creepy yandere freak like that!

Garius had only been joking to begin with, but seeing his little partner so seriously counting out reasons on his fingers, he eventually couldn’t hold it in anymore. His shoulders trembled as he let out a stifled laugh.

Joey blinked, then quickly realized—he’d been played.

At first, he was ready to get mad. But seeing Garius’s smiling face, he couldn’t help but grin along like a fool.

“Oh, so you’re messing with me?!”

Joey squinted, then yanked the big blanket open and threw it over both of them, covering them entirely.
With a swift motion, he tackled Garius down onto the couch, straddling his firm waist as they both disappeared into the small, dimly lit space beneath the blanket.

The warmth of the fabric enveloped them.

The couch was spacious.

Yet the confined space carried only the sound of their breathing, growing slightly uneven, making it hard to catch their breath before long.

Joey looked down at Garius from above.

Amidst the messy golden strands of hair, those soft and affectionate eyes reflected only one person—

Completely, utterly, as if filled with an entire bag of sugar.

Cool hands lifted, cupping Joey’s creamy cheeks, with a thumb gently rubbing circles against his skin.

Joey’s face turned red.

He panted like a hungry wolf eyeing its prey, then, as if summoning courage, shut his eyes tight and swiftly lowered his head—pressing his lips firmly against Garius’s, grinding hungrily as if to quench his longing.

Hmph… even if the timing isn’t perfect… it’s been way too long since we got intimate…

The more Joey thought about it, the more he felt cheated.

He had finally landed himself a cold and aloof yet gorgeous boyfriend—
And yet, they’d barely had any fun together.
The only thing that had gotten a workout was his poor, abused backside.

With a huff, he nibbled and kissed relentlessly, back and forth.

And as the corners of Garius’s lips curled into a quiet smile, he let the little pup bite away for a while—until, suddenly, he parted his lips, pulling Joey unexpectedly into his world…

By the time the kiss ended, Joey lay limp against Garius’s chest, dazed, biting his wet lower lip.

The steady rise and fall of Garius’s chest, synchronized with his heartbeat, lifted Joey up and down in a strangely rhythmic way.

The blanket covering them remained untouched.

Feeling like a fish out of water, Joey grew hotter and hotter. His head was dizzy from the lack of oxygen. Thinking for a moment, he secretly wiggled his toes underfoot—only to have Garius catch them and give a light squeeze. Joey couldn't help but snicker.

Tch~

So it wasn’t just him thinking about it.

Turns out, someone was just holding it in and playing it cool. Impressive.

Garius, teased yet still indulgent, let Joey get away with his little antics. He only reacted when Joey was about to move away—leaning in, brushing his lips against Joey’s ear, and murmuring,

“I’ll wait until you’re ready.”

“……”

He was clearly holding back, yet there was an undeniable sense of ‘once you’re ready, you’re doomed’ lurking beneath his words.

Joey’s backside clenched instinctively. Wrapped in the blanket, he rolled away in a panic, flopping down with a twisted expression that screamed, I’m not ready! I swear I’m not ready!

If he could, he’d tattoo on his forehead: I can tease you, but if you do me—NO WAY IN HELL!

Garius, amused by his little rascal’s antics, chuckled and scooped him up—
Taking him to dinner instead.

And the next day, after staying home with Joey for so long, Garius finally returned to work.

Back to the battlefield of the District 13, where he ruled the storm…

After all, some debts had to be settled.
