That student council president was obsessed with power, always wanting to be a leader.
The fire esper was weak-willed and indecisive.
The space esper only cared about his girlfriend—he had already left.
The earth esper was impulsive, quick-tempered, and not very bright.
Only Meng Jiangtian was steady, intelligent, and had a slightly stronger ability than the other four.
"I plan to follow him in the future," Zhao Jiake explained. "So right now, I'm trying to get close to the person he cares about most."
His words were sincere—he had laid all his intentions bare.
But his observation skills were lacking. Cui Xisheng had no idea how Zhao Jiake had come to the conclusion that he was the person Meng Jiangtian cared about most.
"You've got it wrong. I'm not the one Meng Jiangtian cares about the most."
"Is that so?" Zhao Jiake looked at Cui Xisheng with doubt, his muscular face finally registering some suspicion.
His thick eyebrows twitched, then he grinned. "Well, either way, I ate one of your cans of Eight-Treasure Porridge and drank a bottle of your water. So for today, I’ll be your bodyguard. No take-backs."
"Then… thanks," Cui Xisheng said with a small smile, no longer refusing.
The two of them chatted a while longer before exhaustion caught up to them. Cui Xisheng started nodding off, his head drooping as sleep took over.
Unlike Liu Anna, Zhao Jiake was perceptive enough to retrieve Cui Xisheng’s sleeping mat for him.
The mat, however, had been trampled by countless people. It was filthy, torn, and the sponge inside was poking out.
But Cui Xisheng was so tired he didn't care. He lay down on it and fell asleep almost instantly.
The four espers had been gone for a long time. The sun was nearly setting by the time they returned, each carrying as many grocery bags as they could.
Meng Jiangtian, in particular, was using his wind ability to drag along several unopened boxes of snacks and bottled water.
The moment food appeared, the crowd erupted into chaos, shoving and pushing toward them—only to be blocked by Meng Jiangtian’s wind barrier.
Zhao Jiake remained by Cui Xisheng’s side, watching the frenzied mob fight over food. His throat bobbed as he swallowed repeatedly, but he stayed put. He didn’t rush in to grab anything.
"You should go. There might be nothing left soon," Cui Xisheng, awakened by the noise, advised Zhao Jiake.
Even though he knew Zhao Jiake was only being kind to him because of Meng Jiangtian, Cui Xisheng was still grateful.
With a hundred people scrambling for food, there was no guarantee that he’d get any himself. But with Zhao Jiake’s size and strength, he’d definitely be able to grab something for himself.
"...This—" Zhao Jiake hesitated, watching the chaotic struggle.
By now, even Liu Anna—the so-called girlfriend—had thrown herself into the crowd. If Meng Jiangtian really wasn’t going to set aside food for Cui Xisheng, then Zhao Jiake would also end up going hungry tonight.
"Go. Seriously, before it’s all gone." Seeing his hesitation, Cui Xisheng gave him a shove.
"Alright, I’m going." Zhao Jiake finally rushed into the fray, though Cui Xisheng’s words had made him uneasy.
At noon, he had eaten the porridge without any issue.
But now—after waking up in the evening—Cui Xisheng was suddenly nauseous again.
As he watched the boxes of food float midair, slowly being opened and distributed, his vision swam. His head spun, and a wave of sickness crashed over him. He turned just in time to vomit all over the ground.
The stench was awful. Cui Xisheng grabbed his tattered sleeping mat and used it to cover the mess before sinking to the ground himself.
His gaze swept around the area.
If he was going to keep throwing up like this, he needed to find a dedicated spot for it. Otherwise, if he kept vomiting everywhere, even he would find it disgusting.
"You threw up again?" A voice suddenly spoke behind him.
It was Zhao Jiake.
