As the overwhelming pressure disappeared, the student council president let out a long sigh of relief. Watching the direction Meng Jiangtian had left, he sneered in disdain.

That seemingly righteous face concealed a filthy nature—someone with a penchant for men. Compared to him, the student council president suddenly felt like a person of high moral standing.

So what if Meng Jiangtian was powerful? His character was rotten, and the president had no interest in associating with such a person. If Meng Jiangtian got himself killed by zombies on this trip, it would save him a lot of trouble.

Gazing at the starry night sky, the student council president silently prayed, even willing to trade ten years of his own life to ensure Meng Jiangtian’s demise.

By morning, Cui Xisheng woke up, but once again, Meng Jiangtian was nowhere to be seen. That guy was always disappearing early in the morning.

Liu Anna didn’t go to the other side of the crowd today. Instead, she gazed at Cui Xisheng expectantly, making him uncomfortable. Annoyed, he tossed a box of bread at her.

"Thank you." Liu Anna accepted it, then spoke sincerely, "Cui Xisheng, I think there’s been a misunderstanding between us. I want to apologize for our past arguments.

"But to be fair, you’ve been hostile toward me from the moment we met, which is why I reacted that way. Can you tell me why you dislike me? Is it because of Jiangtian?"

Her words were so earnest that Cui Xisheng actually felt a little guilty.

Thinking back, it was true—he had been cold to Liu Anna from their first meeting. At the time, she probably hadn't even known about his relationship with Meng Jiangtian.

Still, even if he had been in the wrong first, this girl was undoubtedly a classic white lotus. It was better to keep his distance.

With that decision made, Cui Xisheng forced a smile and asked, "Do you like Meng Jiangtian?"

Liu Anna was startled by the direct question. She quickly thought through her response before replying with a smile, "Jiangtian and I grew up together. I do like him."

By admitting it openly, she hoped Cui Xisheng might back off voluntarily, saving her the trouble.

"Then, does Meng Jiangtian like you?" Cui Xisheng asked again.

"He probably does," Liu Anna said, nodding. "We’ve been together since middle school and stayed together through high school. We only separated when we went to different universities, but Jiangtian never officially broke up with me."

Cui Xisheng’s face darkened. That bastard Meng Jiangtian—he had never broken up with Liu Anna yet had been with him for three years. So he was just a side piece all along?

"I hate Meng Jiangtian, so naturally, I don’t like you either," Cui Xisheng said coldly. "We’ll never be friends. Strangers are the best we can be.

"Now that you've eaten, go talk to someone else. If you’re hungry, just take what you want—Meng Jiangtian brought it all back anyway. You don’t need my permission."

"Why do you hate Jiangtian?" Liu Anna pressed.

"I don’t want to tell you." Cui Xisheng looked annoyed. He had made things clear—why was this woman still pushing?

"Anyone can see that Jiangtian treats you differently—even better than he treats me as his girlfriend.

"Cui Xisheng, to be honest, I’m jealous of you. That’s why I need to understand what’s really going on between you and Jiangtian.

"As his girlfriend, I deserve to know. Tell me the reason, and I’ll stop bothering you."

"I already said I don’t want to tell you. If you’re so curious, go ask Meng Jiangtian yourself. Just stop annoying me.

"Zhao Jiake, Qi Tianshan, take her away. I don’t need protection."

Qi Tianshan, a usually silent man, responded firmly, "No. Meng Jiangtian ordered me to protect you."

He had been listening to their conversation, but unlike Zhao Jiake, who kept making faces at him, he stayed impassive.

His job was to protect Cui Xisheng. When the student council president left, he had specifically emphasized that Cui Xisheng’s safety took priority—even over Liu Anna.

The memory of Meng Jiangtian ruthlessly killing three students was still fresh in Qi Tianshan’s mind. Though he had awakened an ability, he was naturally timid and had no desire to challenge someone like Meng Jiangtian.

If it came down to it, he would absolutely choose to save Cui Xisheng over Liu Anna.

"I have Zhao Jiake to protect me. That’s enough." Cui Xisheng didn’t know Qi Tianshan well and didn’t think there would be any real danger on the rooftop. He preferred having Zhao Jiake around instead.

"No." Qi Tianshan refused again. He shot a glance at Zhao Jiake and said in a low voice, "You protect her."

Zhao Jiake didn’t want to be stuck with Liu Anna either. Everyone knew that Meng Jiangtian only cared about Cui Xisheng. Just as he was about to refuse, Qi Tianshan suddenly released his ability’s pressure.

Zhao Jiake felt a heavy force bearing down on him, making it hard to breathe.

For the first time, he truly realized that this usually silent Qi Tianshan was someone far beyond his strength.

A surge of jealousy and resentment filled Zhao Jiake. Why did someone as weak-willed as Qi Tianshan get to have an ability, while he—a man with great ambitions—was stuck as an ordinary person?

But under Qi Tianshan’s pressure, he had no choice but to submit. Face flushed red with frustration, he reluctantly told Liu Anna, "I’ll escort you over."

"I’m not going." Liu Anna’s face darkened. These three hadn’t even considered her opinion, treating her like an object to be moved around. That infuriated her.

If they wanted her to go, she would refuse. Besides, it was safer to stay near an ability user than to be on her own.

Cui Xisheng frowned at her stubbornness. Liu Anna quickly relented, saying, "Fine, I won’t ask you anymore."

Seeing that the situation wasn’t in her favor, she dragged her mat and moved away on her own. She sat nearby but not too far, with Qi Tianshan and Zhao Jiake positioned between her and Cui Xisheng.

Cui Xisheng shot her a glance, rolled his eyes, and lay down. As long as she didn’t bother him, he didn’t care where she sat.

The rooftop remained quiet during the day. The gentle breeze was comforting, and soon, Cui Xisheng dozed off again.

Meanwhile, in a supermarket some distance from the rooftop, Meng Jiangtian was holding a dagger, digging into a zombie’s skull.

Another one without a crystal core. He frowned and wiped the blood off his blade with a cloth.

After nearly a full day of zombie hunting, he had only collected eight crystal cores. It seemed that zombies with cores were just as rare as human ability users.

With the sun beginning to set, Meng Jiangtian leaped onto the rooftop of a tall building. He had spent the morning moving all usable supplies from the supermarket to the roof, ensuring that food and oil wouldn’t be contaminated while he killed zombies.

He took out all the crystal cores from his space. Back when he rescued the student council president, he had secretly stashed some away.

Now, with today’s haul, he had a total of:

Six earth-element cores

Five wood-element cores

Five fire-element cores

Three wind-element cores

A small but valuable collection.
