Abroad, supernatural abilities had already begun to emerge. Those who possessed them abused their power, turning the outside world into a lawless battlefield. It was no longer safe.

The moment Liu Anna returned to the country, she sought out Meng Jiangtian. Just as she had expected, he still held a place for her in his heart. Naturally, they reunited.

To strengthen her connection with Meng Jiangtian, Liu Anna made every effort to understand his life and integrate herself into his social circle.

However, she always felt that Meng Jiangtian was neither warm nor cold toward her. In the first few days after her return, he had shown enthusiasm, but it hadn’t even lasted a week before she clearly felt him distancing himself.

She had been searching for the root of this change. She had met all of Meng Jiangtian’s friends, and none of them seemed suspicious.

But today, she might have found the answer.

She had never seen Meng Jiangtian care so much about someone before—his concern went beyond friendship.

Liu Anna didn’t want to believe it. Could Meng Jiangtian actually like men? And not just any man, but one who was utterly unremarkable?

Or was there some other connection between them?

Cui Xisheng.

She would have to keep a close eye on this person.

Meng Jiangtian was oblivious to the storm of thoughts brewing behind him. Holding Cui Xisheng in his arms, the wind at his feet was already picking up—he was ready to leave at any moment.

He turned back to Liu Anna and asked, “Are you coming with me, or staying with them?”

“Of course, I’m coming with you! Jiangtian-gege, you can’t leave me behind!” Liu Anna’s eyes widened in shock. She quickly grabbed onto his arm.

She had always believed that she was the only person Meng Jiangtian cared about here. Cui Xisheng was completely unexpected.

And yet, judging by Meng Jiangtian’s demeanor, he wasn’t even intent on bringing her along—he was giving her a choice.

She didn’t want this choice. It meant he wasn’t prioritizing her.

The realization left her both stunned and furious.

How was she inferior to him?

A man who vomited at the sight of blood and could barely stand on his own two feet.

“Then hold on tight. I don’t have a free hand to hold you.” Meng Jiangtian nodded indifferently, and the wind around him surged even stronger.

His casual remark nearly made Liu Anna cough up blood.

Her expression darkened as she clenched her fingers tightly around Meng Jiangtian’s arm—the very arm that was carrying Trissy. Her beautiful eyes locked onto the back of Trissy’s head, filled with hostility.

“Meng Jiangtian, stop right there!”

The student council president’s voice rang out. He was a water ability user, and suddenly, powerful currents materialized out of thin air, swirling menacingly around the three of them, threatening to swallow them whole.

“Do you want to fight?” Meng Jiangtian’s expression turned icy. The wind around him picked up speed, forming a twisting tornado that blocked the rushing water, filling the air with a deafening howl.

Yet, standing at the eye of the storm, Cui Xisheng felt nothing—no wind, no force, only eerie stillness.

It was his first time witnessing an ability up close. His dizziness and nausea temporarily forgotten, he curiously turned his head, trying to take it all in.

Meng Jiangtian glanced down at the soft, tousled head moving restlessly in his arms, and for the first time, the coldness in his expression melted just a little.

“I don’t want to fight.” The student council president’s voice was firm.

“Meng Jiangtian, even if you have an ability—sure, you can protect the two of them from zombies.

But can you guarantee you’ll find enough food for them?

Can you promise that through the changing seasons, they’ll always have clothes to wear?

Can you ensure that if they fall ill, they’ll have medicine to heal them?

Eventually, all these resources will be controlled by powerful factions. No matter how strong you are alone, you won’t be able to stand against them forever.”
