Meng Jiangtian turned around, and Liu Anna, who had been clinging to him, suddenly found herself exposed at the front. Startled, she immediately scurried back behind him.
“Heh, you vomit just from seeing a single zombie? What are you going to do when you have to face them every day? You’ll puke yourself to death.
Since you all refuse to accept my girlfriend, I’ll just leave with her. But remember this—I've memorized your faces. Don’t let me run into you again.
If I do, I’ll capture every one of you and feed you to my girlfriend. None of you will escape.”
With those vicious words, Wang Yu shot one last glare at the vomiting Cui Xisheng before disappearing into thin air.
Spatial abilities were even faster than Meng Jiangtian’s wind-based powers.
“That bastard! All the food we gathered was stored in his space!” A boy cursed in frustration, staring at the spot where Wang Yu had vanished.
Then, he turned his angry gaze to Meng Jiangtian. “You were so close! Why didn’t you stop him? Where are we supposed to find that much food again?”
“I’m not your subordinate. Don’t order me around.” Meng Jiangtian’s tone was icy as he stared the boy down.
“I’m not ordering you around. I’m just pointing out your mistake. Right now, everyone is in danger. If we don’t stick together, the zombies will pick us off one by one.
We’re lucky to have awakened abilities, but there are only a few like us.
I believe our powers exist to protect those who can’t protect themselves. Since we’ve already saved these people, we have a responsibility to see it through.
We haven’t found a single teacher. As the student council president, it’s my duty to protect them.”
“Then do it yourself. I only protect the people I care about.” Meng Jiangtian sneered coldly and turned away, pulling Liu Anna along as he walked toward Cui Xisheng.
“Meng Jiangtian!” The student council president shouted his name angrily, his righteous indignation unwavering. “You have an ability, and yet you stand by and do nothing? Do you think you deserve your power?”
Meng Jiangtian let out a scornful chuckle, unwilling to argue with someone whose way of thinking was so different from his own.
He reached the wall, pried Liu Anna’s hands off of him, and helped Cui Xisheng sit up.
Cui Xisheng had vomited to the point of exhaustion. His limbs were weak, and he could do nothing but slump obediently in Meng Jiangtian’s arms.
Without a hint of disgust, Meng Jiangtian wiped the dirt off Cui Xisheng’s face, which had become smeared with stomach acid from his vomiting.
As he looked at Cui Xisheng’s pale face—so white he almost looked like a zombie—Meng Jiangtian frowned and grabbed Cui Xisheng’s wrist, intending to check his pulse.
But Cui Xisheng suddenly snapped awake. Strength surged through his exhausted body, and he yanked his wrist away with all the force he could muster. Though weak, his voice was firm. “Don’t touch me.”
Meng Jiangtian’s brows knitted together as he coldly studied Cui Xisheng for a moment. Without another word, he slipped his arms under Cui Xisheng’s legs and lifted him up.
This time, Cui Xisheng didn’t resist. He simply had no strength left to walk on his own.
Liu Anna’s delicate eyebrows furrowed even deeper than Meng Jiangtian’s. Her gaze lingered on Cui Xisheng in his arms, flickering with emotion.
She had always believed that in the apocalypse, apart from his family, Meng Jiangtian would only care about her. That was why, the moment she learned about the zombie outbreak abroad, she rushed back to find him.
Liu Anna and Meng Jiangtian had grown up together as childhood friends—their families were neighbors.
A month ago, when she called home, her parents mentioned that Meng Jiangtian’s parents had told them something was wrong with him. Based on their description, Liu Anna quickly deduced that Meng Jiangtian had awakened an ability.
