TGFH Chapter 6: Encountering Bandits on the Road

Nearly ten days have passed since Bai Yi and Xiao Yiran left Huaiding border town. Along the way, Bai Yi and Xiao Yiran got along very harmoniously. Although Xiao Yiran was seriously injured, under Bai Yi's care, he is now normal except for the poison wound and the inability to use his internal strength. After all, Bai Yi is just a weak doctor with no martial arts skills, and his health is not as good as Xiao Yiran's. Therefore, in the next few days, the driving job began to be shared by the two.

It only took two days to get from Huaiding to Jingshui, but it took nearly twenty days to get from Jingshui City to Bailu City. In order to hurry, Bai Yi and Xiao Yiran took turns driving and took a break every two or three days. Because they were afraid of meeting those people who might recognize Xiao Yiran during the day, Bai Yi drove during the day and Xiao Yiran drove at night, and Xiao Yiran was more alert at night.

At this time, Xiao Yiran and Bai Yi had just handed over. Xiao Yiran was driving outside, while Bai Yi was resting in the carriage. The sky gradually darkened, and there were still two or three hours to the next town. He originally planned to skip this town and find a place to rest tomorrow night, but thinking about Bai Yi who was a little tired these days, he must not be able to rest well on the road, so Xiao Yiran decided to go to the previous town to rest tonight.

Feeling the carriage suddenly accelerate, Bai Yi, who had not yet fallen asleep, lifted the carriage curtain and asked, "Why did it suddenly accelerate?"

"Let's go to the next town to rest first, and then continue our journey tomorrow."

"Aren't we going to find a place to rest tomorrow night? Why did you do it earlier? Are you feeling unwell?"

Bai Yi was a little surprised when he heard Xiao Yiran, who was about to hurry on his way, say that he wanted to rest in advance. He then suspected that Xiao Yiran was unwell and immediately walked out of the carriage nervously to see if Xiao Yiran's poisonous injury had changed. Unexpectedly, the carriage swayed as it accelerated, and Bai Yi, who was already a little tired after driving for a whole day, lost his balance and fell to the edge of the carriage.

Feeling his balance was unstable, Bai Yi stretched out his hands to grab the curtain to stabilize himself, but his hands were empty. He could not even call for help, and could only close his eyes and tense his body to bear the pain of falling. But when he was halfway down, he suddenly felt someone holding him by the waist, and with a force, his center of gravity shifted forward, and he fell into a broad embrace.

Bai Yi opened his eyes instantly and saw the familiar clothes. He realized that he was pulled back by Xiao Yiran and fell into his arms. Thinking of the awkward posture now, Bai Yi felt his face red again. Just as he was about to struggle to get up, he heard Xiao Yiran groan.

"What's wrong? Did you bump into something and the wound opened?" Thinking that Xiao Yiran still had some wounds that had not fully healed, Bai Yi was afraid that his previous momentum would hit those wounds. He didn't dare to move anymore and could only slowly prop himself up and steady himself.

Fortunately, after the two of them stabilized, Xiao Yiran released the hand that was around Bai Yi's waist, and instead pulled the reins to stabilize the speed of the carriage. Bai Yi took this opportunity to quickly sit up straight according to Xiao Yiran's wishes and looked at Xiao Yiran.

"Where are you hurt? Let me take a look first."

"It's okay." Xiao Yiran shook his head, "It was just a bump."

Seeing that Xiao Yiran was not going to stop to check, Bai Yi had no choice but to observe Xiao Yiran carefully. He only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that the other party was not holding in.

"I'm sorry, I was a little impatient and didn't stand steadily." With some apology, Bai Yi smiled at Xiao Yiran a little embarrassedly.

"It's my fault for driving erratically, not yours."

Xiao Yiran looked up, his expressionless face still revealing nothing, but his bright black eyes seemed to be a little bitter at this moment. After all, it was his sudden acceleration that caused the carriage to become unstable.

Bai Yi smiled and stopped dwelling on this question. The embarrassment of falling into the other's arms just now still made Bai Yi's face slightly red. During these days of getting along, Bai Yi also had a good impression of Xiao Yiran. In addition, there were always some embarrassing situations. Bai Yi would blush even when helping Xiao Yiran change the external injury medicine.

In fact, Bai Yi also found that although Xiao Yiran looked cold on the outside, he was actually quite gentle and caring. At least he was more accommodating to his schedule and habits along the way, but he just didn't know how to express it. Thinking of such a strong and gentle person traveling with him, Bai Yi felt a little emotional. In this short journey, Bai Yi felt that he had already fallen halfway. If he continued to walk, he didn't know if it would disrupt his always firm life trajectory...

However, thinking that he would arrive at Yunxia City in a month and a half, Bai Yi smiled bitterly. Even if he fell into it, he would probably fall headfirst. The other party was obviously of extraordinary status, and it was likely that they would hardly meet again after arriving in Yunxia City. However, Bai Yi had always been a person who followed his own heart. He thought that if he really fell into it, he would just go with the flow. If there was a destiny, he would be together. If there was no destiny, he would go home and continue to be himself, but he would no longer think about a life like marrying and having children. After thinking about it, it was harmless, so Bai Yi did not think about it any more.

Thinking of this, and thinking about the reason for leaving the carriage, Bai Yi couldn't help but ask again, "Are you really okay? Why do you suddenly want to rest early?"

This time, Xiao Yiran thought for a moment before saying, "I've been traveling for a few days, and I'm a little tired."

Bai Yi was stunned for a moment, then he realized that Xiao Yiran could fight even when he was seriously injured, so how could he be tired from traveling these days? He probably said he wanted to rest early because he saw that he, a doctor with no strength, was tired. Thinking that the other party cared about him, Bai Yi was a little happy, but also felt a little disappointed that he was a useless burden.

He smiled apologetically at Xiao Yiran and said, "I'm sorry for delaying the trip. Actually, it's okay to travel one more day."

As if sensing Bai Yi's gloomy tone, Xiao Yiran turned his head and looked at him for a long while, still without any expression, except for his deep eyes. It was not until Bai Yi felt a little helpless that Xiao Yiran withdrew his gaze and said in a calm voice, "You are not a burden..." Then he seemed to be thinking about what to say again, and was silent for a long time. It was not until Bai Yi looked at his neck and felt a little sore that he spoke again, "It will be better to travel if you get enough rest..."

Bai Yi burst out laughing when he heard this. If he hadn't been with Xiao Yiran for many days and had some understanding of his habits, he really wouldn't have been able to tell that this was Xiao Yiran comforting him. It seemed that the other party was really not good at speaking. He shook his head and smiled. Bai Yi didn't embarrass Xiao Yiran. He was already very satisfied to hear Xiao Yiran say this. At least Xiao Yiran never lied. Since he said that he didn't feel that Bai Yi was a burden, it proved that he really thought so. Bai Yi was not the kind of person who complained about himself. Although he was not as good as the genius doctor Yun Mozhi, at least Xiao Yiran's life had been saved by him so far. Of course, he would not let himself immerse himself in that kind of low mood.

Bai Yi stretched himself, smiled, leaned against the carriage behind him, and closed his eyes to rest.

  "Go in and rest."

Hearing Xiao Yiran's voice, Bai Yi raised the corner of his mouth slightly, "It will only be two or three hours, let's get some fresh air outside."

Xiao Yiran hummed and didn't reply, driving the carriage quietly. Bai Yizhe slowly opened his eyes, leaned against the carriage, looked at Xiao Yiran's back, and smiled faintly.

  …

As the carriage went up and down, Bai Yi, who was tired after a day of work, felt a little drowsy. The next town was still some distance away, but the carriage, which was moving steadily and fast, was suddenly stopped by Xio Yiran. Bai Yi, who had made a mistake, woke up immediately and looked at the back of the man in front of him with some confusion. He wanted to ask something, but when he saw that the other party had steadied the horse and seemed to be concentrating on listening to something, he stopped asking and held his breath.

After a while, Xiao Yiran suddenly turned his horse's head, galloped away, and said in a deep voice, "Get in the carriage."

Bai Yi, who also heard some noise at this time, knew that there was a problem. He did not delay any longer and ignored the curtain and entered the carriage.

Xiao Yiran drove the carriage quickly, getting further and further away from their original direction. Although Bai Yi was anxious in the carriage, he did not dare to distract Xiao Yiran at this time. Just now, he also vaguely heard the sound of some horses running from far behind them. Who would ride a horse to follow them on the road at night? Thinking that it might be the group of people chasing Xiao Yiran, Bai Yi couldn't help but feel a little worried.

Although they tried their best to run, the carriage carrying people could not outrun the horses after all. In addition, there were traces left on the road, and soon Bai Yi heard the sounds that seemed to be far away gradually approaching.

"Brothers, the carriage in front is the one that suddenly turned! Surround it!"

Suddenly, a loud shout was heard from outside the carriage, followed by a commotion, which was particularly noisy in the quiet night. Bai Yi felt relieved after hearing the noise. At least he was sure that the other party was not the group chasing Xiao Yiran. According to Xiao Yiran's description, those people were probably good at assassination and would not be so arrogant.

After a while, the carriage stopped. When Bai Yi heard Xiao Yiran's low voice talking to the other party outside, he finally knew who these people were. They turned out to be the "bandits" that had been rampant recently.

Although he was somewhat puzzled as to how these bandits could commit crimes near the official road without being caught, he could not care less at the moment. Since they were just bandits seeking wealth, the worst that could happen was that they would just have to hand over some money. Given the current state of himself and Xiao Yiran, it would not be easy to get into an argument with them.

Lifting the curtain and stepping out of the carriage, Bai Yi silently walked to Xiao Yiran's side and took a quick glance. There were about eight people on the other side. The leader was a man with thick arms and waist, a full beard, and huge eyes. He was facing Xiao Yiran.

"Hey, you are brothers. I didn't expect to meet such a fat sheep on the way to the village. How about handing over your property and I will spare your lives!"

Xiao Yiran was obviously not the kind of person who would negotiate with others, let alone such humiliating conditions. Seeing Xiao Yiran frowning, Bai Yi quickly pulled the corner of Xiao Yiran's clothes to stop him from speaking. He smiled at Xiao Yiran who turned his head, then turned his face to the group of bandits with a serious expression, took out the purse from his sleeve and handed it over.

"My dear heroes, my brother and I are just ordinary people. We don't have much money. This is all we have. I hope you can let us go."

The purse in Bai Yi's hand was taken away by the leader of the other side with a whip. In the purse was the silver that Xiao Yiran had exchanged for Bai Yi's five hundred taels before, about three hundred taels left. Bai Yi kept the remaining one hundred taels somewhere else, thinking that the remaining money would be enough.

The other party shook the purse, opened it and looked at the amount with satisfaction, smiled obscenely, put the purse away, but did not let it go. Instead, he stared at Bai Yi and Xiao Yiran and laughed.

After all, Bai Yi seldom traveled far and had limited experience, so he had never encountered real bandits. He only wanted to prevent Xiao Yiran from having a conflict with the other party, and that the two could disperse peacefully. Little did he know that for these bandits, it was impossible to rob the money and let the person leave alive. But now that he saw that the other party had taken the money and was unwilling to leave, he knew that there was no way to resolve the matter, and he had a headache.

Although Xiao Yiran had never suppressed bandits, he had been on the battlefield before, so he naturally understood these things. He was ready to break out from the beginning, but he was worried about Bai Yi who didn't know martial arts, so he didn't take action yet.

The other party laughed for a long time as if they had seen a big joke. The leader waved his whip and shouted, "You two brothers look pretty good. Why don't you come back with me and become my mistresses? Hahahaha"

A burst of laughter rang out all around. Bai Yi was so angry that his face turned red when he heard this, but he didn't know what to do and felt a little helpless. Xiao Yiran blocked Bai Yi behind him with an expressionless face and shouted at the leader in a deep voice, "Get out of the way!"

The other party didn't expect Xiao Yiran to refute, and laughed again, "That's enough, I like it! When we get back to the village, I will fuck you until you are speechless, hahahaha!"

Bai Yi was even more furious when he heard the other party insulting Xiao Yiran. He glared at the group of people, but heard Xiao Yiran's voice coming in a low voice, "If I move later, you hide back in the carriage."

Bai Yi was stunned for a moment, then realized that Xiao Yiran was preparing to fight the other party, but when he thought that there were eight people in total on the other side, and Xiao Yiran was injured and could not use his internal strength, and he had such a burden with him, how could he win, he couldn't help but worry.

But Xiao Yiran did not give Bai Yi too much time to think. While the other party was still laughing, he raised his hand and shot a hidden weapon, hitting the other party right in the middle of the eyebrows. Then he jumped up, drew the sword beside him and rushed towards the other party.

In a moment of distraction, Xiao Yiran had killed two of the other party, and the other party also reacted immediately and hurriedly picked up their weapons to fight back. Bai Yi came back to his senses and thought about Xiao Yiran's instructions. Although he was worried about Xiao Yiran, he was also afraid that he would be distracted by his presence, so he immediately returned to the carriage.

In the carriage, Bai Yi leaned against the side of the carriage, concentrating on listening to the noise outside. Xiao Yiran killed two people outside the carriage in an instant, which really caught the bandits off guard. Although the other party's reaction was fast, Xiao Yiran was a veteran after all, so how could he take this group of rabble seriously? If he had not been injured and his internal strength had not been reduced, the hidden weapon would have gone directly to the leader of the other party, and he would have captured the leader first.

But at this moment Xiao Yiran had to choose a safer and less strenuous way of fighting. After a few encounters, the sword in Xiao Yiran's hand had already cut the neck of the fourth person. He turned around and landed on the carriage, panting slightly.

Xiao Yiran frowned. He had just used some of his inner strength and he felt that the poison that had been calm for many days was causing some troubles. Glancing at the four people opposite him, Xiao Yiran adjusted his breathing slightly and decided to end the battle quickly.

"Damn, it's actually a hard point." The leader of the other side spat at the four fallen accomplices, grabbed the knife, glared at the horse, and leaped towards Xiao Yiran.

Xiao Yiran dodged the opponent's sword by turning his head, and with a strong breath, he swung out with his palm, pushing the opponent several feet away. With a flick of his sword, the man's right hand immediately began to bleed profusely, and the sword in his hand fell. Not giving the opponent a chance to breathe, Xiao Yiran took a strong breath again and jumped up, slashing down from above in the air, instantly killing two bandits who wanted to come forward to help. Then he spun his hand and stabbed the leader's chest with his sword.

It only took a short while to deal with the seven people including the leader. Xiao Yiran already felt his internal breath unstable and he forced a mouthful of fishy and sweet taste. Xiao Yiran turned around and prepared to deal with the last person.

Seeing that his boss was dead, the man did not dare to move forward, but turned to the carriage where Bai Yi was.

Bai Yi could only hear the sound of weapons clashing outside in the carriage, and he had no idea what was going on outside. He was very anxious when he suddenly saw the curtain being lifted and a big knife stabbed at him. He was startled and dodged hastily, but the knife still cut a big gash on his arm. Biting his lip, Bai Yi didn't scream, and picked up the medicine jar beside him and threw it over.

The man did not expect that Bai Yi, who was hiding in the carriage, would react so quickly. He was careless and failed to capture the hostage. Instead, he just dodged the medicine jar thrown by Bai Yi and was pierced through the chest by a sword from Xiao Yiran who caught up with him.

Xiao Yiran kicked the last man away and fell into the car. Bai  Yi was shocked and, regardless of his arm injury, he immediately stepped forward to feel Xiao Yiran's pulse.

"Let's go first. We shouldn't stay here for long."

Xiao Yiran's breathing was already disordered, his face was a little blue, he gasped and said something, then closed his eyes and said no more. Bai nodded, withdrew his hand, took out the medicine bottle from his arms, fed Xiao Yiran a pill, and helped him into the car.

When Bai Yi stepped out of the carriage, he saw blood and corpses all over the ground. He did not have time to calm down. He quickly searched the other person for the stolen money bag and drove away in the carriage.
