During the summer vacation, Jiang Jin Yue tricked Tong Yao into staying at his large villa by claiming, "Living alone in such a big house is too lonely. Can you really bear to see me so pitiful?"
One day, after taking a shower, Tong Yao lay on Jiang Jin Yue's big bed, playing on his phone. Suddenly, he noticed a slightly open drawer on the bedside table, inside which lay a familiar portable music player—the one Jiang Jin Yue had always openly carried around at school.
Like all their classmates, Tong Yao had always been curious about what Jiang Jin Yue listened to every day. So, he took out the player.
However, no matter how much he browsed, there was only one audio file saved in it, titled "The First Time."
He plugged in the earphones and, within just two seconds of listening, his entire face turned bright red. The recording was from the first time he had spoken to Jiang Jin Yue in high school—the time he had picked up his pen.
"Jiang... Jiang... Jiang Jin Yue..." His voice in the recording sounded like he was rapping, and then came the most embarrassing line: "The office is calling you, Lao Tian."
"What are you listening to?"
Jiang Jin Yue, fresh from his own shower and radiating warmth, leaned over from behind, pressing against Tong Yao’s back. "Listening to yourself?"
"Y-you... you... Why did you record this? I thought you were always listening to English!"
"English doesn’t sound as good as you."
Tong Yao’s ears turned red, and Jiang Jin Yue couldn’t resist giving them a playful bite.
"D-don't tell me… you secretly liked me for three years, just like I liked you?"
Jiang Jin Yue had already made his feelings clear when he confessed, but Tong Yao still hadn’t fully accepted it. And now, in a moment of nervousness, he had accidentally blurted out his own secret.
"You had a crush on me?" Jiang Jin Yue was surprised.
"Mmm... I just didn’t dare to talk to you." Well, now that they were together, there was no harm in admitting it.
Everything suddenly made sense. It wasn’t that Jiang Jin Yue had ever failed to attract someone’s attention—it was just that his little superhero was too shy.
"Then I guess I liked you just a little bit longer." Jiang Jin Yue murmured, his breath warm against Tong Yao’s neck.
"I have one more question," Tong Yao said, struggling to endure Jiang Jin Yue’s constant teasing from behind. "Back in the second semester of senior year, why were you always wearing the same clothes as me? I swear I wasn’t copying you like the other classmates thought!"
"I know you weren’t doing it on purpose. But I was."
Jiang Jin Yue slid his arms under Tong Yao’s and wrapped them around his chest.
"I came up with a thousand clumsy ways to try and get your attention, and that was just one of them."
"But ever since the first time I saw you in freshman year, you’ve always had my attention. You’ve never left my sight."
Tong Yao was so eager to explain that when he turned his head, his lips bumped directly into Jiang Jin Yue’s—who had been waiting for exactly that moment.
"I know that now," Jiang Jin Yue whispered. "Sorry for making you wait so long."
