🌷Chapter 1-90

Because of Gu Lingfeng’s restriction, Chu Zichen hadn’t appeared in front of Su Ning for quite some time. Su Ning saw that the variety show was still filming as usual and assumed the matter had passed. He figured Chu Zichen had learned his lesson and was now focusing on work again.

As for Chu Zichen constantly picking on him before, Su Ning didn’t really take it to heart. Back when they were filming, Chu Zichen never liked him and was always trying to stir up trouble. Later, when he showed up to act all high and mighty, the situation wasn’t really in his favor, so the damage he could do was limited. Su Ning hadn’t suffered any actual harm.

However, the incident of being secretly photographed had clearly crossed Gu Lingfeng’s bottom line, which was why he placed the restriction on Chu Zichen.

Su Ning only occasionally sighed about it before tossing it to the back of his mind. When he turned on the TV, he still switched to that variety show—after all, it really was quite relaxing to watch.

But what Su Ning didn’t expect was to see Chu Zichen again at the villa just a few days later. Su Ning froze for a moment in surprise, while Chu Zichen raised his chin smugly when he saw him.

“Hmph, it was Lingfeng who asked me to come. Su Ning, you didn’t really think you’re the master of this villa now, did you? Wow, your skin is really thick. I’ve never heard of a housekeeper thinking they own half the house—oh, wait, there are cases of maids seducing the master of the house, becoming the mistress. What, trying to follow in their footsteps?”

Chu Zichen deliberately said disgusting things to provoke Su Ning. Su Ning's surprise at seeing Chu Zichen vanished quickly. He frowned and pointed upstairs.

“Mr. Gu is busy in the study. If you have something to discuss, wait here in the living room.”

Gu Lingfeng didn’t like being disturbed while working. Even if Chu Zichen claimed to have an appointment, Gu Lingfeng hadn’t mentioned it to Su Ning beforehand, so he wasn’t going to let anyone up without permission.

Chu Zichen’s face immediately darkened. He shoved Su Ning aside and tried to go upstairs.

“You really think you’re the master here? You think you can stop me from seeing Gu Lingfeng?”

As he spoke, Chu Zichen stomped up the stairs. Su Ning quickly stepped in front of him at the top, frowning, his voice growing cold.

“Mr. Chu, without Mr. Gu’s permission, no one is allowed in the study. I suggest you don’t push your luck.”

Chu Zichen forcefully flung Su Ning’s hand away, sneering with disdain.

“I am going in. What are you going to do about it?”

He moved closer, voice lowered.

“Su Ning, stop pretending. Always acting like some innocent victim in front of Gu Lingfeng—did you learn that from your mom?”

Su Ning’s pupils shrank sharply, his face darkened, and cold fury rose in his eyes.

Chu Zichen kept whispering viciously into his ear:

“Your mom seduced a man and had you, a bastard. No dad, barely a mom—must’ve been rough growing up all alone. But hey, you used that tragic backstory to hook Gu Lingfeng, right? Like mother, like son—”

“Shut up!” Su Ning finally lost control. Enraged, he grabbed Chu Zichen’s arm.

He could endure Chu Zichen insulting him, but not his mother.

His mom had raised him alone with great difficulty and passed away early. In Su Ning’s heart, his mother, grandmother, and grandfather were the three people he loved the most in the world—and who loved him most. He would never allow anyone to tarnish their memory.

Seeing Su Ning snap, Chu Zichen’s eyes gleamed with a flash of triumph. Catching sight of movement from the second-floor hallway, his expression twisted with a strange grin. Suddenly, he clutched Su Ning’s hand and screamed in panic:

“Su Ning, what are you doing? I was invited by Lingfeng! I didn’t sneak in, don’t be mad—”

“Ahhh!”

With a miserable cry, Chu Zichen tumbled down the stairs. Su Ning had been grabbed by him and tried to hold on, but it was too late. From the outside, it looked like Su Ning had pushed him in anger.

Su Ning was completely stunned, frozen as he watched Chu Zichen tumble to the floor.

It wasn’t until Chu Zichen landed with a thud in the living room, groaning in pain, that Su Ning finally snapped out of it and rushed downstairs.

But someone beat him to it.

A figure passed him in several swift strides, reached the living room, and crouched down to gather Chu Zichen into their arms.

Su Ning’s steps faltered halfway. He stared blankly as Gu Lingfeng, face icy cold, checked Chu Zichen’s condition. Chu Zichen, pale and teary, clutched Gu Lingfeng’s sleeve pitifully.

“Lingfeng, don’t blame Su Ning… I’m sure he didn’t mean it. He just hates me so much… He must’ve just lost control. Don’t… don’t be mad at him.”

Gu Lingfeng turned and gave Su Ning a chilling look from the stairs but said nothing. He simply picked up Chu Zichen and walked out to take him to the hospital.

Chu Zichen, nestled in Gu Lingfeng’s arms, looked over his shoulder and shot Su Ning a triumphant glance. Seeing Su Ning frozen in shock on the stairs, he nearly laughed aloud. If he hadn’t needed to keep up the pitiful act while being held, he would’ve gone right up to Su Ning to gloat in his face.

After this incident, there was no way Gu Lingfeng would keep Su Ning around as his assistant anymore—and that thought delighted Chu Zichen.

Su Ning, you think you’re a match for me? Please.

Truth be told, Su Ning was thinking the same thing. Even though he hadn’t pushed Chu Zichen, and the whole thing was clearly staged, Gu Lingfeng didn’t give him a chance to explain. That last look from the man made Su Ning’s heart sink.

Su Ning gave a bitter laugh and slowly sat down on the stairs, hugging his knees and burying his head.

He hadn’t expected Chu Zichen to go so far. That staircase had at least ten steps—he really just threw himself down without hesitation. Su Ning hadn’t even had time to react.

Now that he thought about it, Chu Zichen had planned this from the start. He had scheduled a meeting with Gu Lingfeng, but his real goal was Su Ning.

All those insults were meant to provoke him. And from behind, it looked exactly like Su Ning had pushed him in a rage.

To take him down, Chu Zichen hadn’t hesitated to injure himself. Truly ruthless.
