AD Chapter 34
The director followed the gaze of the person standing nearby, watching the scene unfold. The noise caused by Chu Zichen earlier had drawn attention, and the director smiled at the person next to him:
"Your partner sure doesn't take money seriously. The crew's wages are still paid by you, but with someone who’s spoiled, I guess it’s different—he can do as he pleases."
Gu Lingfeng shifted his gaze from Su Ning, giving the director a glance, his expression slightly lighter than usual when working. "What’s the matter? Did he cause you trouble?"
The director waved his hand, laughing in a joking manner. "No, no, no. He's the darling, with someone like you supporting him—of course, he’s different from the rest of us."
Upon hearing the director's comment, Gu Lingfeng furrowed his brow slightly, looking at Su Ning once more. Su Ning, unaware that Gu Lingfeng had arrived, was chatting with Shen Yueyue. He didn’t have the slightest trace of grievance on his face, instead looking relaxed and happy while talking.
"Is this how Chu Zichen usually interacts with people?" Gu Lingfeng casually asked, almost as if it were just a passing question. The director, following his gaze, thought that Gu Lingfeng was dissatisfied with what had just happened, and sighed.
"Ah, when you're working as an assistant, it’s mostly like that. If you’re lucky and the person is nice, it’s a bit easier, but if they have a bad temper, you’re just unlucky." The director shook his head, seemingly sympathizing with Su Ning. "But you, probably because you're young and spoiled, get treated a bit differently. The people in the crew being ordered around by him aren’t just that assistant. It’s not even a big deal today, but once, during a night shoot, he complained about being hungry and tired. He insisted on having food from his usual restaurant, forcing someone to run over ten kilometers to bring it back. Only after eating did he continue working."
The director paused, then gave a half-smile and glanced at Gu Lingfeng. "With all that money burning away every minute, don’t you mind?"
Gu Lingfeng’s expression cooled, and he didn’t respond, stepping out from the shadows. He had been standing in a somewhat concealed position, blocked by the slightly overweight director, so no one in the crew had noticed. But once he stepped into the open, his tall figure and powerful aura immediately drew the attention of everyone around.
Su Ning, facing away from Gu Lingfeng, didn’t notice him at first. However, Shen Yueyue, who was opposite him, was the first to spot him. Excitedly, she tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "It's President Gu! President Gu is here! Oh my god, he’s so handsome! He looks even better than in the magazines!"
Su Ning was stunned for a moment, then quickly wiped any surprise off his face, casually turning around. Seeing how Shen Yueyue was acting like a fan meeting her idol, he couldn’t help but smile and tease her, "Wow, you’ve become a fan after just one glance?"
Shen Yueyue nodded vigorously, her eyes glued to him. "I’m a fan now! It’s all about looks. Fans like us are shallow like that!"
Su Ning chuckled lightly, but his attention was drawn to Gu Lingfeng, who had thrown him a casual glance from a distance. The look wasn’t noticed by anyone else, but Su Ning knew that Gu Lingfeng had been looking at him.
An unexpected feeling of guilt swept over him. He pulled his sleeve away from Shen Yueyue’s grip and, not fully trusting himself, took a couple of steps back to distance himself from her. Shen Yueyue, still entranced by the sight of Gu Lingfeng, didn’t notice anything unusual.
The first to react to Gu Lingfeng’s appearance was Chu Zichen. He quickly finished his ice cream, stood up from his lounge chair, straightened his clothes, and walked toward him.
"Lingfeng, why are you here so early? I thought you weren’t coming until the afternoon." Chu Zichen’s voice was sweet as honey, standing beside him familiarly, acting like an old friend in front of others.
Gu Lingfeng frowned slightly. "I had some free time this morning, so I came over." His tone was flat, betraying no emotion. "Is the filming very tiring?"
When Gu Lingfeng’s face turned cold, no one could help but feel a chill. Chu Zichen, seeing this, stood a bit straighter and restrained himself, not wanting to cling too much. He blinked his eyes and said, "I was just so tired earlier that I had to lie down for a bit. But when I saw you, all the exhaustion just disappeared!"
Gu Lingfeng’s face remained indifferent, silent. Chu Zichen, trying to ease the mood, was about to speak when someone coldly sneered from the side:
"If filming a few NGs makes you so tired you can’t go on, lying on a lounge chair ordering others to go buy snacks, being picky about your food and drink—if that’s considered hard work, then you must be more tired than everyone else here."
Chu Zichen's face turned red with anger. He snapped, "Fan Xin, what nonsense are you talking about!" Then, turning back to Gu Lingfeng, he clung to his arm with a pitiful look. "Lingfeng, look at her! She’s always picking on me."
Fan Xin stood her ground, disdainfully watching Chu Zichen as he clung to Gu Lingfeng’s arm. "You really shouldn’t be playing the male lead; you’d be better suited for the female lead’s role. At least you could play the second female lead."
Chu Zichen gritted his teeth, but for the sake of maintaining his image in front of Gu Lingfeng, he couldn’t retort as usual. Instead, he became even more aggrieved, pulling on Gu Lingfeng’s arm, his eyes welling up with tears. "Lingfeng, look at her!"
Fan Xin clicked her tongue, shaking her head. "If you could put this acting into the scenes, we wouldn’t need to retake it so many times."
Seeing Chu Zichen on the verge of tears, Gu Lingfeng patted his hand to calm him down, then turned to Fan Xin and said, "That’s enough."
Seeing that Gu Lingfeng had spoken, Fan Xin didn’t dare continue. However, she quickly had an idea. She looked around, spotted Su Ning not far off, and waved enthusiastically.
"Su Ning, over here!"
Su Ning was taken aback. He had been trying to blend into the crowd, hoping to find something to do, when Fan Xin's call suddenly made him the center of attention.
