"Are you hungry?" Meng Jiangtian tugged at Liu Anna's arm a couple of times, but she didn't let go. He frowned and asked.

"Yes, I haven't eaten for a whole day and night." Liu Anna said, feeling wronged.

"Then let go, I'll go heat up some lunch for you."

Hunger overcame her longing for Meng Jiangtian, and Liu Anna released her hold on his waist but wrapped her arm around his again.

Her eyes sparkled as she stared at the box Meng Jiangtian was holding, reaching inside to pick out the food. "What do you have? After eating bread for so many days, I'm dying for some vegetables and rice."

"I’ll give you this," Meng Jiangtian hesitated for a moment and handed her a box of braised pork.

He also took out a box of spinach rice, perfect for replenishing blood, which was just right for Cui Xisheng.

"Add a bit of water to heat it up," Meng Jiangtian said as he handed the box to the Student Council President in a rather commanding tone.

The Student Council President felt a moment of displeasure at the order, but after seeing Meng Jiangtian's increased presence since his return, he couldn’t help but feel slightly oppressed.

Although they were both extraordinary individuals, the Student Council President felt slightly breathless in Meng Jiangtian's presence.

He had almost been aggressive towards Cui Xisheng earlier, but now, he was glad he didn’t act on it. Otherwise, he might have ended up like the three other students who had suffered unfortunate fates.

Though he hadn’t fought him, the Student Council President was certain that he wouldn’t have been able to beat Meng Jiangtian before, and now, he certainly couldn’t.

Reluctantly, he took the box and activated the heating packet with some water, and soon the food warmed up.

The Student Council President opened his mouth, wanting to speak to Meng Jiangtian, but Meng Jiangtian had already placed the heated spinach rice beside Cui Xisheng. His expression turned darker as he watched the exchange.

He helped Cui Xisheng sit up and lean against him, looking at Cui Xisheng’s pale face. Meng Jiangtian reached for Cui Xisheng’s wrist to take his pulse.

"Don't touch me." Cui Xisheng immediately pulled back his wrist, his heart racing from nervousness, though there was a bit more color in his face now.

"I won’t take your pulse. I’ll feed you instead." Meng Jiangtian wasn’t bothered by Cui Xisheng’s reaction; he was determined to figure out what was wrong with Cui Xisheng's health eventually.

Holding Cui Xisheng, Meng Jiangtian picked up the chopsticks and fed him a piece of spinach.

"I can do it myself." Cui Xisheng didn’t want Meng Jiangtian to take care of him. He reached for the chopsticks.

Meng Jiangtian smiled and didn’t refuse, handing the chopsticks to Cui Xisheng.

With great effort, Cui Xisheng raised his arm and took the chopsticks, but that motion drained all his strength, and he couldn’t lift his arm again to feed himself.

"I’ll do it for you." Meng Jiangtian had expected this and took the chopsticks back to feed Cui Xisheng again.

Cui Xisheng was so hungry that he didn’t argue and opened his mouth to eat the spinach.

The warm food gradually relieved the pain in his stomach. Cui Xisheng felt a sense of relief and thought that the baby should be fine.

As the two of them continued feeding each other, the atmosphere became increasingly intimate.

Liu Anna, holding the food that the Student Council President had helped heat up, watched the two of them in a tender exchange. Her face flushed with anger.

Her suspicions were confirmed when she saw it with her own eyes. Liu Anna couldn’t accept the fact that her childhood friend, who she had relied on during the apocalypse, was now involved with another man, and had pushed her aside.

She was unwilling to accept it. She had abandoned her rich boyfriend abroad and given up her studies to come back for Meng Jiangtian.

At first, when she returned, Meng Jiangtian was happy, and they were back together. They had confirmed their relationship as a couple. Everything seemed to be going as she had planned, but suddenly, Cui Xisheng appeared out of nowhere and inexplicably stole Meng Jiangtian away from her.

Meng Jiangtian was supposed to be her boyfriend, her pillar in the apocalypse. She wouldn’t allow anyone to take him from her.

Liu Anna wanted to confront Meng Jiangtian and ask about his relationship with Cui Xisheng, but she had a strong feeling that if she asked, Meng Jiangtian would confirm the relationship, something she wasn’t ready to hear.

As long as she didn’t ask, Meng Jiangtian would still be her boyfriend, and he would still take care of her.

She would find a way to separate them, no matter what it took.

Liu Anna glared at Cui Xisheng, who was nestling in Meng Jiangtian’s arms, her gaze filled with hatred. She couldn’t break them up right now, but she didn’t want them to continue showing affection so openly.

She sat beside Meng Jiangtian, hugging her own box of food, and deliberately bumped into him.

Meng Jiangtian glanced at her, and Liu Anna looked at him with a wronged expression, her big eyes filled with unshed tears—a silent plea from a girlfriend whose boyfriend had fallen for someone else.

Meng Jiangtian looked at Liu Anna indifferently for a moment, then turned back to focus on feeding Cui Xisheng, ignoring the silent accusation in her eyes.

Liu Anna stared at the back of Meng Jiangtian’s head, her face dark with frustration. She ate her food harshly, as if trying to punish the box of food for what was happening.

"Are you full?" After finishing the spinach rice, Meng Jiangtian asked Cui Xisheng.

He turned to grab the rest of the self-heating boxes from the paper box next to Liu Anna and offered them to Cui Xisheng. "What other dishes do you want?"

"I don’t want anything else. I want to sleep for a bit." Having been so hungry for so long, Cui Xisheng couldn’t eat too much at once.

The previous night had been filled with hunger, pain, and worry. He hadn’t slept much, but now that Meng Jiangtian had returned and he had eaten and felt better, his stomach no longer hurt. He sighed in relief, thinking the baby should be fine.

"Sleep then. I won’t leave for now." Meng Jiangtian helped Cui Xisheng lie down, and his words made Cui Xisheng feel even more at ease. As his head touched the pillow, he fell into a deep sleep.

Meng Jiangtian took off his jacket and draped it over Cui Xisheng, only to notice how much more emaciated Cui Xisheng had become compared to when they had broken up two months ago.

His face was pale, and dark circles under his eyes made him look far from healthy.

"Cui Xisheng, Cui Xisheng?" Meng Jiangtian gently nudged Cui Xisheng, but he was in such a deep sleep that there was no response.

Looking at Cui Xisheng’s exposed wrist, Meng Jiangtian placed his fingers gently on his pulse.

It was smooth and flowing, like pearls rolling on a jade plate—an indicator of a "slippery pulse," which is often found in pregnant women in traditional Chinese medicine.

Meng Jiangtian frowned as he took Cui Xisheng's pulse several more times. The pulse became clearer.

A man couldn’t be pregnant, and the pulse felt different from what he had seen in men with anemia. Was Cui Xisheng hiding something from him?

Meng Jiangtian continued to observe Cui Xisheng's sleeping face, deep in thought.

"Jiangtian-ge, I want another box," Liu Anna finally waited for Cui Xisheng to fall asleep before she clung to Meng Jiangtian’s arm, acting coquettishly.

She had been hungry for a day and a night, and one box of food wasn’t enough to fill her.

"I’ll go get something else for you. These lunch boxes aren’t much; we need to save them," Meng Jiangtian said, putting the remaining self-heating lunch boxes back in the paper box.

Cui Xisheng had serious anemia, and eating too many snacks wasn’t good for him. He should have more rice and vegetables.

When he went out earlier, he only brought back some rice, flour, and seasonings. The fresh vegetables were mostly spoiled by now or trampled by zombies.

Now, outside, he couldn’t find any fresh vegetables. He planned to go out again and see if he could find any more self-heating lunch boxes or hot pots for Cui Xisheng to eat.

Liu Anna, who had no illness, could make do with bread and ham.

"Jiangtian-ge, I want to eat rice," Liu Anna grabbed his arm tightly, suppressing her anger, staring seriously at him.

She was his girlfriend, so how could he give the food to someone else and not her?

"Be good, don’t make a fuss." Meng Jiangtian looked at her seriously as well.

Since his rank had increased, his presence had grown stronger. Just a small display of it was enough to make Liu Anna release her grip, unable to bear it.

Giving her a bit of a reprimand, Meng Jiangtian softened his demeanor, smiling at Liu Anna, just as he had when they were children.

He placed the box beside Cui Xisheng and gently fixed the disheveled hair that the light breeze had blown out of place. Cui Xisheng hadn’t washed his face in a week, and his pale complexion couldn’t hide his condition.

Meng Jiangtian now understood clearly: he liked men. When did he go from seeing Liu Anna as a sister to a lover?

It seemed like it started back in high school, when Liu Anna insisted on being his girlfriend. He had been tangled up with another girl at the time and had agreed to Liu Anna.

Over three years of high school, he had gradually gotten used to the idea of Liu Anna being his girlfriend.

Now that he thought about it, he had only grown accustomed to it. Liu Anna had gone abroad for university, and he hadn’t felt heartbroken at all.

He had never planned on breaking up with Cui Xisheng, but that person had been confused by love and hadn’t known how to hide their feelings.

Their relationship had been discovered by Cui Xisheng’s counselor. If it were exposed, both of their futures would be ruined.

In this society, people still couldn’t accept such relationships.

Cui Xisheng was impulsive, and if she knew about the counselor, she might reveal everything.

That’s why Meng Jiangtian hadn’t told her, and when Liu Anna came back, he had unilaterally ended things with Cui Xisheng.

He had acted the part of a couple with Liu Anna for two months, but the arrival of the apocalypse changed everything.

Fortunately, that counselor hadn’t turned into a zombie, but he hadn’t awakened any powers either. When the apocalypse began, the counselor was still monitoring him and Liu Anna.

Meng Jiangtian had tolerated him for two months, but when he saw the counselor being chased by zombies, he couldn’t help but send him on his way.

Cui Xisheng had been in perfect health before they broke up, but after that, his anemia became so severe. Meng Jiangtian didn’t know if it was because of their relationship, but he always felt a bit guilty.
