Meng Jiangtian swung a wind blade, slicing through the air. Wherever it passed, grotesque zombie heads fell to the ground in unison.

Feeling that his energy was running low, Meng Jiangtian used his space ability to teleport instantly to the rooftop.

The zombies, unable to find the fresh flesh that had attracted them, turned toward the corpses of their fallen kind and began feasting.

On the rooftop, Meng Jiangtian felt utterly exhausted. His rampaging energy had finally been depleted, ridding him of the unbearable sensation of being on the verge of bursting apart.

He regretted his greed—he shouldn't have consumed so many energy crystals at once. The energy within them had nearly torn him apart.

Moreover, his mind was now filled with chaotic voices, tangled together in a noisy clamor.

These voices seemed to belong to the original owners of the energy crystals—conscious remnants that hadn't yet faded. Having devoured them, he had also absorbed their lingering awareness, which had now invaded his mind.

Though their thoughts were muddled, they all shared a singular craving—fresh flesh.

Meng Jiangtian felt himself being affected. Just the thought of fresh flesh made his mouth water uncontrollably, and his hunger surged beyond his ability to suppress it.

He used all his rationality to resist the madness, but he failed.

There was a gap in his memory from the previous night. Meng Jiangtian knew that during that time, he had lost control.

When his consciousness returned, he was standing atop a pile of dead zombies, surrounded by more that continued to swarm toward him.

Fortunately, his mouth was clean—there was no foul taste. He craved only fresh flesh, and these rotting zombies were so disfigured that even in his frenzied state, he had no appetite for them.

The mere thought of consuming zombie flesh made Meng Jiangtian's hair stand on end.

His energy reserves were nearly empty. Perhaps due to the depletion, his rationality had returned.

Using the last drop of his ability, he teleported out of the zombie horde and onto the rooftop, where his stored food remained untouched.

Now that the maddening voices had disappeared from his mind, Meng Jiangtian found himself craving normal food again.

After eating and resting for a while, he felt the energy crystals inside him beginning to release power once more. Before long, the excruciating tearing sensation returned to his body.

With a helpless sigh, Meng Jiangtian charged back into the zombie horde.

He slaughtered endlessly, burning through his energy over and over, only for it to replenish and go berserk again.

Looking toward the setting sun, he realized he had been gone for two days and a night. He had no idea how Cui Xisheng was doing.

Those so-called ability users were useless. Had they managed to find any food? If not, then guarding that stash of supplies could put Cui Xisheng in danger.

Meng Jiangtian regretted leaving so much food for Cui Xisheng. It was his own greed—consuming too many crystals—that had delayed his return.

He wanted to bring the food on the rooftop back now, but the surging energy inside him made his mind hazy. He could barely hold onto his sanity.

If he returned in this state, he would be more dangerous than even the starving ordinary people.

Frowning, Meng Jiangtian gazed in the direction of the Chinese medicine school, his face dark and foreboding. If anything happened to Cui Xisheng, then no one there would be left alive.

As night fell once more, the student council president and Zhao Huanrui returned empty-handed yet again.

Disappointment spread through the hundred or so survivors, filling the air with tension and dread.

Some turned their gazes toward Cui Xisheng and the three others behind the water tank. The naked hunger in their eyes sent a chill down their spines.

Cui Xisheng kept stuffing bread and ham into his mouth, trying to eat as much as possible.

"Stop eating!" Liu Anna, frightened by the ravenous crowd, looked pale. Seeing that Cui Xisheng was still eating, provoking the crowd further, she angrily snatched the bread from him and threw it into the hungry mob.

It was like throwing a red-hot iron ball into a pond; the half piece of bread caused the crowd to erupt in a frenzy. Even the student council president couldn’t maintain order.

What was it like to have over a hundred people fighting for half a piece of bread? Cui Xisheng immediately thought of the scene of a group of zombies tearing apart a living person.

Hair was pulled, arms were yanked, fists and kicks flew, and in the chaos, many were injured.

"What are you doing?" Cui Xisheng glared at Liu Anna angrily, and before he could speak, Zhao Jiake had already turned around and glared at Liu Anna, scolding her.

Even Wen Hufu from Qitian Mountain turned around, glaring at Liu Anna with a reproachful expression.

"I... What did I do? Why are you yelling at me?" Liu Anna was frightened by Zhao Jiake’s angry look. She didn’t realize what she had done wrong.

Clearly, it was Cui Xisheng eating in front of everyone, provoking them, yet they were blaming her?

"Why? You still ask why? They were already starving and wanted to steal food. They hesitated because they feared Meng Jiangtian. But when you threw that half piece of bread, that’s what really triggered them. When they come to snatch food, don’t expect us to protect you," Zhao Jiake shouted, his anger boiling over.

Liu Anna immediately felt wronged. She was only frightened by the crazed, hungry eyes of the people and thought throwing the bread would stop them from staring at her.

She never intended to provoke them further. She didn’t do it on purpose.

These two were going to stop protecting her now? At least she was Meng Jiangtian’s girlfriend—what was Cui Xisheng to Meng Jiangtian?

Couldn’t they tell who was more important to Meng Jiangtian?

She would definitely tell Meng Jiangtian about this when he returned.

Looking down at Cui Xisheng, who was still eating, Liu Anna felt a surge of jealousy. Why was everyone favoring this useless person?

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She pointed at Cui Xisheng and shouted, "Why are you blaming me? Clearly, it was him eating that provoked them. Don’t you see what’s happening? How can you still eat?"

Cui Xisheng, with a dark expression, continued chewing on the remaining ham in his hand. He couldn’t be bothered to argue with Liu Anna. If he had time for that, he might as well eat more.

The half piece of bread, with over a hundred people fighting for it, quickly disappeared. Liu Anna’s shouting immediately drew the attention of the crowd.

When Liu Anna saw that everyone was looking at her, the fierce eyes sent a chill down her spine.

Some people, in moments of danger, can become incredibly clear-headed. In her panic, Liu Anna suddenly had a brilliant idea. With a righteous tone, she said to Cui Xisheng, "Now is the time to share the food with everyone. We’re all classmates. How can you be so selfish? When Jiangtian brother comes back, I’ll definitely tell him that you’re too selfish and didn’t care about others."

She walked over to the student council president and chose her side.

"You..." Zhao Jiake didn’t expect Liu Anna to change sides so suddenly. He glared at her in anger, but seeing the growing crowd behind her, he swallowed his words and turned to look at Cui Xisheng.

All eyes turned to Cui Xisheng, and he immediately felt the immense pressure bearing down on him.

Taking a deep breath, Cui Xisheng glanced at Liu Anna, feeling a surge of frustration, but also a sense of helplessness.

This "white lotus" girl was fickle, and though she had caused trouble for him earlier, she had at least chosen the right side this time.

These supplies were never meant to be kept. Cui Xisheng hadn’t intended to keep them, but the way Liu Anna had stirred the pot made it look like she was forcing him to hand over the food.

He had expected this situation, but still, being pressured by this girl to give up the food left him feeling furious.

With over a hundred people watching him, Cui Xisheng continued to chew on his ham, imagining it was Liu Anna, savoring every bite.

His silence only added to the tense atmosphere.

"Stop!" Someone could no longer hold back and tried to rush forward to snatch the food, but the student council president quickly intervened with a sharp command. The ability users released their energy, suppressing the restless crowd.

The student council president still feared Meng Jiangtian and spoke to Cui Xisheng kindly, "Cui Xisheng, consider this food as a loan from me. In the future, I will return it to you no matter the cost. Please, let us take the food."

The student council president was sincere, bending down to bow in a perfect 180-degree bow.

Cui Xisheng finished his ham and thought it was about time. If he waited any longer, he might get eaten alive by these people.

He stood up and said, "Remember what you said. You can take the food, but only you can come over. Everyone else, stay back and wait."

The water tank blocked both sides. Behind the water tank was Cui Xisheng's resting area, and he didn’t want so many people trampling over his space.

If he couldn’t keep the food, at least he would defend his sleeping area—this was Cui Xisheng’s last stand.

"Alright, I’ll come over alone. Everyone else, go back and wait. I’ll divide the food right away." The student council president was pleased, turning to address the crowd of over a hundred people.

But no one moved. These people had been starving for nearly two days and a night. They were afraid they wouldn’t get any food and wanted to stay close to the student council president to be the first to get some.

When no one left and some even pushed forward, the student council president’s face darkened. He felt his authority was being challenged.

He had worked hard to secure food for them, and now they were disobeying him. The student council president hated people who didn’t follow his orders.

Once again, he released his energy to suppress the crowd, coldly saying, "I said, go back and wait. Anyone who disobeys will not get food tonight."

Ordinary people couldn’t withstand the pressure from the ability users. One by one, they grew anxious, their bodies feeling heavy and weak. Hearing the student council president’s threat, they finally backed off, waiting obediently.

The student council president sneered with satisfaction, but inside, he cursed under his breath. If it weren’t for his future promotion, he wouldn’t care about these burdens.

Turning back to Cui Xisheng, the student council president put on a warm smile, "Can I come over now?"

"Go ahead," Cui Xisheng said, having eaten enough. He walked to the other side of the water tank, out of sight and out of mind.

Zhao Jiake hesitated for a moment, then shot a glare at Liu Anna before following Cui Xisheng.

Qi Tianshan also wanted to follow, but the student council president grabbed his arm tightly, his gaze sharp.

Qi Tianshan, being indecisive, shrank his neck and obediently helped the student council president move the food.
