Cui Xisheng heard Qi Tianshan crying and roughly understood his words.
After all, Qi Tianshan had protected him for three days. He didn’t want someone to lose their life just because he still wanted more porridge.
Looking toward the door, Cui Xisheng saw Meng Jiangtian’s dark expression. Since he had just kissed him, Cui Xisheng figured Meng Jiangtian might listen to him, so he tentatively said, “I won’t eat anymore. I’ve already eaten quite a lot today.”
Upon seeing Cui Xisheng, Meng Jiangtian’s face immediately lit up with a smile. “That’s good. I was worried you’d upset your stomach again.”
Looking down at Qi Tianshan with a smirk, Meng Jiangtian instructed, “Go find the student council president. Once you’ve finished washing the dishes, you can go upstairs and rest.”
“I’ll call him right away. Thank you, thank you!” Qi Tianshan, grateful that his life had been spared, kowtowed three times with loud thuds, tears and snot running down his face as he dashed off.
Now that the nuisance was gone, Meng Jiangtian stepped up to Cui Xisheng and pulled him into an embrace. Cui Xisheng tried to push him away, but Meng Jiangtian tightened his arms around him and said, “What, I can’t even hug you now just because you didn’t get to eat? We’ve been together for three years, are you really this heartless?”
Heartless?!
Cui Xisheng’s eyes widened. He was the one who had been abandoned. He was the one treated like a mere fling. And now, somehow, he was the heartless one?
He thought back to the day Meng Jiangtian had coldly broken up with him—who was the heartless one then?
This guy wasn’t just a shameless pervert; now he was even playing the victim! Did he really think Cui Xisheng was as harmless as a Hello Kitty doll?
Fuming, Cui Xisheng struggled with all his strength to escape Meng Jiangtian’s embrace. Meng Jiangtian, unwilling to let go, tightened his hold. Cui Xisheng’s eyes blazed as he lifted his knee, aiming straight for Meng Jiangtian’s most vulnerable spot.
Meng Jiangtian swiftly dodged, grabbing Cui Xisheng’s leg and locking it against his own side.
“Why are you so angry? Fine, I was wrong, okay?” Meng Jiangtian admitted, though he had no idea what he had done wrong.
“Oh? Then tell me—what exactly did you do wrong?” Cui Xisheng glared at him. Unable to break free, he stopped struggling, worried about exerting pressure on his stomach. He panted slightly and waited for an answer.
Meng Jiangtian smirked. “Whatever you think I did wrong, that’s what I did wrong. It’s all my fault, okay?” He thought he was saying something sweet, but it only infuriated Cui Xisheng even more.
This guy had no idea what he had done wrong. He was just trying to smooth things over so he could get what he wanted!
“You’re disgusting. Let me go,” Cui Xisheng said coldly.
Meng Jiangtian studied him for a moment. Cui Xisheng was really angry. Though he still had no clue why, he decided to let go—pushing any further would just make things worse.
Cui Xisheng stormed back to the bedroom and slammed the door shut. Watching the tightly closed door, Meng Jiangtian rubbed his nose.
They say a woman’s heart is hard to read, but a man’s heart is just as complicated.
A knock sounded at the door. “Meng Jiangtian, we’re back,” Qi Tianshan called.
Meng Jiangtian opened it to find the student council president standing behind Qi Tianshan, looking furious.
Meng Jiangtian smiled at Qi Tianshan. “You’re a fire element user, so you’re no help washing dishes. Go get some rest. Be back in the morning to cook.”
Then he turned to the student council president, his smile growing even brighter. “President, you’re a water element user. Washing dishes should be easy for you.”
The student council president clenched his teeth, fuming, but he couldn’t say a word in protest. Scowling, he stomped into the kitchen and began scrubbing the dishes with barely contained rage.
“If you break even one plate, you won’t be eating tomorrow,” Meng Jiangtian said casually as he opened the bedroom door.
The sound of clattering dishes stopped immediately. The student council president gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, and forced himself to continue, this time much more carefully.
Satisfied, Meng Jiangtian stepped inside the bedroom.
Cui Xisheng was sitting by the window, staring outside. The moment he noticed Meng Jiangtian entering, he turned away, pretending to be engrossed in the view.
Scratching his head, Meng Jiangtian hesitated. He had comforted Cui Xisheng before, but this time, he truly didn’t know what he had done wrong. If he tried to cheer him up, he might say something that would only make things worse.
Sitting on the other side of the bed, he tried to start a conversation.
“There’s no electricity, so we can’t watch TV or use our phones. Pretty boring, huh?”
Cui Xisheng didn’t respond.
“It’s getting hotter every day, and without air conditioning, the nights are unbearable.”
Silence.
“I think the supermarket has some playing cards. Want to play a few rounds?”
Nothing.
“What do you want to eat tomorrow?”
Still nothing.
Suddenly, Meng Jiangtian slapped his thigh. “I’ve got it!”
The sudden noise startled Cui Xisheng. He rolled his eyes.
Meng Jiangtian grinned. “Wait here—I’ll find something to entertain you.”
With that, he opened the window and leaped out.
A foul wind carrying the stench of rotting flesh rushed into the room. Cui Xisheng immediately gagged.
“Damn bastard! Couldn’t even close the window before leaving,” he cursed, rushing to shut it without glancing down at the carnage below.
The oppressive July heat filled the sealed room. Sweating profusely, Cui Xisheng searched for something to use as a fan.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Qi Tianshan and the student council president were washing dishes. Though Meng Jiangtian had told Qi Tianshan to rest, he didn’t dare leave the president alone to do all the work.
Just as Cui Xisheng stepped into the living room, Qi Tianshan was taking out the trash.
“Where are you going?” Qi Tianshan asked politely, clearly grateful to Cui Xisheng for saving his life earlier.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Cui Xisheng replied while searching for a fan.
Qi Tianshan’s eyes drifted to Cui Xisheng’s lips—still slightly swollen from the earlier kiss. The image of that moment replayed in his mind.
Seeing Cui Xisheng right in front of him, Qi Tianshan unconsciously imagined himself in Meng Jiangtian’s place.
Staring at Cui Xisheng’s soft, flushed lips, Qi Tianshan’s mouth went dry. He licked his lips, imagining how they might feel—smooth and tender, like jelly, sweet and bouncy.
His gaze grew more intense.
"What are you doing? Why aren't you leaving yet?"
Qi Tianshan's gaze was so perverse that Cui Xisheng couldn't ignore it even if he wanted to.
That twisted stare made him sick. Seeing Qi Tianshan seemingly about to pounce on him, Cui Xisheng shouted sternly.
Qi Tianshan snapped back to his senses instantly at the yell, his eager steps halting. Cui Xisheng seized the moment, dashed back to his bedroom, and locked the door.
He wasn’t unfamiliar with that kind of gaze—Meng Jiangtian used to look at him the same way whenever he had those kinds of thoughts.
But he couldn’t understand why Qi Tianshan would have such ideas about him.
They were both men. Even if Qi Tianshan was into men like him, it wasn’t like he’d lose his mind just from seeing him, right?
Had he done anything to excite Qi Tianshan? Cui Xisheng frowned as he recalled his actions. He had only gone out to find a fan—he hadn't made any extra movements.
Did Qi Tianshan eat something weird?
As he was lost in thought, a loud slamming sound came from outside. Cui Xisheng carefully cracked open the bedroom door and glanced into the living room.
Qi Tianshan was gone. That must have been the sound of him leaving and shutting the door.
Finally, he was gone.
Cui Xisheng sighed in relief.
In this apocalypse, not only did he have to guard against zombies, but he also had to guard against humans.
Living was exhausting.
Qi Tianshan ran upstairs, carrying a trash bag. He casually tossed it down.
The zombies downstairs had been mostly wiped out by Meng Jiangtian, and only a few new ones had gathered. The falling trash bag didn’t cause much of a commotion.
Climbing over the one-meter-high dirt wall Zhao Huanrui had put up, Qi Tianshan slumped onto a sports mat, absent-minded.
Zhao Huanrui studied him for a moment, noticing something was off. He nudged Qi Tianshan and asked, "What's up? Did Meng Jiangtian scold you again?"
"No." Qi Tianshan shook his head and glanced at the mat Zhao Huanrui was sitting on.
Cui Xisheng had slept there before.
The image of Cui Xisheng and Meng Jiangtian kissing flashed in his mind again, and Cui Xisheng’s flushed lips seemed to magnify before his eyes, tempting Qi Tianshan to press his own against them.
He didn’t want to think about it, but he couldn't stop himself. His whole body felt restless.
"Let's switch spots. You sleep over here."
Qi Tianshan grabbed Zhao Huanrui and forcibly swapped places with him.
Lying on the mat Cui Xisheng had slept on, Qi Tianshan pressed his face against it, rubbing against the fabric as if the heat trapped in the mat could somehow cool the warmth spreading across his face.
He knew something was wrong with him.
He probably looked like a total creep right now.
But he couldn’t help it.
And he didn’t want to.
The feeling was too strange, too exhilarating—something he had never experienced before.
"You're acting weird." Zhao Huanrui muttered, watching Qi Tianshan curl up with his back turned.
Inside the house, Cui Xisheng was still shaken. He locked the living room door, then locked his bedroom door again.
The room was completely sealed off, making it unbearably hot.
Opening the window would only bring in the stench from outside, which was even worse.
Sweat covered Cui Xisheng's body, making him extremely uncomfortable.
Unable to stand the heat, he took off his T-shirt. After some hesitation, he decided to keep his pants on.
Qi Tianshan had creeped him out too much—if he also ended up provoking Meng Jiangtian, he wouldn’t be able to fight back.
Not with the baby in his belly.
He couldn’t risk getting hurt.
Not long after, Meng Jiangtian returned, carrying a large cardboard box in his arms.
Seeing Cui Xisheng shirtless through the window, his eyes immediately lit up.
The moment he opened the window, the nauseating stench of dead zombies outside rushed in. Cui Xisheng gagged violently.
"Close it! Close it now!" Cui Xisheng covered his nose and urged.
Meng Jiangtian climbed inside, quickly shut the window, and set down the box. In just a few steps, he was by Cui Xisheng’s side, pulling him into his arms.
He patted Cui Xisheng’s bare back, his voice full of concern.
"Are you okay? Do you still feel like throwing up?"
His tone was anxious, his expression filled with worry.
Only… the way his hands were positioned as he patted Cui Xisheng’s back seemed a little off.
Patting was one thing.
But why was he groping?
